Dark Tower To Roll When LOST Is Finished?

Dark Tower To Roll When LOST Is Finished?

Will we get to see Dark Tower on the big screen? The rights have been purchased by the Lost guys.

For all of you Dark Tower fans, be it books or just the comics, we may get to see a film of our beloved series in the future.

Apparantly J.J. abrams and "Lost" co-conspirator Damon Lindelof have purchased the rights for the series from Stephen King for a staggering $19.00. Anyone who has read anything having to do with this world, knows this number holds significance for the series.

They do, however, want to hold off on this endeavor until Lost is finished, which should be this season. Lindelof recently told Lostpedia.com...

“We’re just so focused on finishing ‘Lost’ that it’s really hard to think about anything else. The last thing we want to think about is how to adapt a seven book series of, you know, basically the writer who we admire the most and look up to most and has inspired our work the most, and do anything with that. I think that it’s such a daunting task. We have a pretty daunting task in front of us ourselves [with the end of 'Lost'].”

Lindolf previously told AMC that he envisions the series on the same scope as Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.

He also goes on to say:

“There are always ‘Dark Tower’ conversations, but the figuring out of what this will look like as a movie has not begun. If ‘The Dark Tower’ were in the right hands, I would love to see seven movies executed just right. But you have to get people to see the first one to get them to come and see the second one.”

With these kinds of attitudes attached, I have high hopes for this franchise.

What do you think about such an eddeavor?

Awesome. The series was a great read, but I think they should make them into a Tv series instead of a movie trilogy.

I think they should have seven seasons: one for each book.
WulfComicFan - 7/16/2009, 3:38 PM
I can see that, but it would definatley have to be on HBO or Showtime or something....too much to show on normal cable, plus to show it on cable it would have to be bastardized big time...
WulfComicFan - 7/16/2009, 3:45 PM
Apparantly, Christian Fing Bale is supposed to play Roland Dechain, what a crock...
WulfComicFan - 7/16/2009, 3:45 PM
@ Macksimus, it would be around a seven movie deal, But I agree it would have to be more to get it all in...
WulfComicFan - 7/16/2009, 4:17 PM
a couple places actually, it's on wikipedia, and there is a footnote where it mentions it, follow the link, it'll take you to the site.

It's not that I don't like Bale, I do, butu I just can't see him as Roland.

And yes he does do great in R territory, look at American Psycho.
LEEE777 - 7/16/2009, 4:25 PM
DARK TOWER would TOWER them all!!! ; D

Okay that was bad lol, damn, i take in the comic book/book is worth lookin' at then???
LEEE777 - 7/16/2009, 4:26 PM
Well im all for a DARK TOWER movie anyway! ; )
WulfComicFan - 7/16/2009, 4:27 PM
that's the thing bro, he don't need to be younger, remember Roland is over 300 years old, and is graying at the temples, maybe Russell Crowe, or Hugh Jackman is a good choice, hell even Kurt Russell, I mean look at what they did for Brad Pitt's wrinkles in benjamin Button, that being said maybe Brad Pitt could pull it off.
WulfComicFan - 7/16/2009, 4:27 PM
@ leee, the books kick major butt, it's a major mindtrip, not sure bout the comics, but i've heard great things.
Macksimus - 7/16/2009, 4:49 PM
How about Sam Worthington?

Take Worthington's character from T4 with the trench coat and put a hat on his head...I think he's a winner.

Bale's not that bad, but I don't see him as Roland either for some reason.
Osiris - 7/16/2009, 5:08 PM
I haven't read the books or the comics but I have heard great things, this could be really sweet.
WulfComicFan - 7/16/2009, 5:11 PM
Mack, could you see Sam W as a Clint Eastwood type? I kind of can't, but that's not to say he can't.
adamant877 - 7/16/2009, 5:19 PM
I have total faith that these guys will pull it off true-to-form! The books are superb, bent, but superb! I have a hard time thinking who could pull off Roland... Bale is definitely not it, though I like him for a lot of things, this isn't one of them (sorry, Kev). Jackman, maybe... I'm really kind of torn?
WulfComicFan - 7/16/2009, 5:21 PM
@ Adamant, I feel ya man, not sure who I would like to see.
Clint Eastwood or Sam Elliott would be ideal, but they are ancient, and wouldn't be right anymore.
adamant877 - 7/16/2009, 5:29 PM
Hey, how about Thomas Jane?.. He's about the only actor these days that doesn't come across as an underwear model looking for his next "big break", and he happens to be a bit of a bad-ass in his own right. What do you think?
TucsonRican - 7/16/2009, 5:35 PM
Shit, put Josh Brolin in the role.

Or, Clive Owen. He could look the part, but I wonder how he would look in Western garb...

Bandrews1 - 7/16/2009, 5:50 PM
Never read it but it does sound like a interesting movie.
natydred - 7/16/2009, 6:23 PM
sorry i have been rubbing one out because i looooooove the dark tower books, comics and the entire mythos. Thank you Steven King.

superdog - 7/16/2009, 6:32 PM
Thomas Jane is a good pick. He's the best of the suggestions so far. Maybe Mathew foxx? Ohh wait.....the guy who plays Sawyer on lost!!!!
superdog - 7/16/2009, 6:40 PM
Good pick as well anil
DonkeyPuncher - 7/16/2009, 6:42 PM
The books are awesome but i haven't read the comics yet.
Is it the same thing or a another story
redrum010 - 7/16/2009, 6:59 PM
Thomas Jane is a great pick. Guy Pierce...not so much.
RorMachine - 7/16/2009, 7:06 PM
Still need to read these damn books!

Speaking of Lost..one more season..then officially everything on tv will suck:((Except True Blood)

superdog - 7/16/2009, 7:33 PM
I agree ror....except I'm a big 24 fan so I'll still have that......we can also hope for the new V to be good. Maybe we'll get lucky :)
Macksimus - 7/16/2009, 8:25 PM
DAMN!!! JOSH BROLIN is the winner.

I can't believe I didn't think of him. Whoever said Brolin is right on IMO.
comicbookjerk - 7/16/2009, 8:37 PM
What! $19 is that some kind of typo or what?
JeremyBentham - 7/16/2009, 8:50 PM
shit i can't believe theres only one more season of lost left! so excited for it. Damn i think abrams and lindelof would be perfect to adapt dark tower, and theyve done such a good job on lost too, making seriously the best show on tv.

just as a side note, has anyone seen the movie the mist? in the beginning they show thomas janes character painting a poster for a dark tower movie!! i almost didnt believe it when i watched the movie, but then it even said so on wikipedia
JeremyBentham - 7/16/2009, 9:05 PM
oh and as far as casting goes, i cant really see christian bale in the role, or josh brolin either. guy pierce might not be so bad...basically, a young clint eastwood was born to play roland!!! its a shame hes too old now...

gibbyblaylock - 7/16/2009, 10:48 PM
Well, this has got to be a first. I actually agree with pretty much ALL of the casting suggestions so far!

I've been a fan of this series for a few years and in my mind I pictured a few different dudes for the role of Roland.

HUGH JACKMAN is high on the list. Roland is supposed to be tall and Eastwood-esque. Jackman is almost a dead ringer for Eastwood in his hey day so he's gotta be one of the front-runners. The only problem with Jackman is the Wolverine association. That may be too distracting.

THOMAS JANE takes a close second to Jackman for me. He could easily pull off the intensity that the role requires. The kind of brooding, cold-hearted, badassery that Jane emanated in The Punisher. He'd be just about perfect. Plus at the beginning of the movie "The Mist" his character is painting the movie poster for the DARK TOWER film!!!!! It's serendipity! Because of this fact it would be so much more of a fangasm for him to get the role than for anyone else to land it.

GUY PEARCE is an excellent choice that I had not yet considered. He would be absolutely brilliant in this role. I would definitely not mind seeing him take it on.

JOSH BROLIN aint bad. The only problem is that he's playing Jonah Hex; a similarly cold, hard-boiled outlaw character. So, again, that's a distraction.

CHRISTIAN BALE would be okay. But Bale is Batman and that would be hard to put out of one's mind when watching the flick. He's a fantastic actor and I'm sure he could pull it off, but he'd be way down on my list.

ROBERT PATRICK. I mention him last not because he's lowest on my list but because he's least likely to get the part. But in my mind he's perfect. Roland is not young, he's actually extremely old and weathered but not to the point that he's decrepit. I sort of picture him as a dude in his fifties. Patrick is another Eastwood-esque, grizzled, tempered looking dude. Probably even more so than any of the previously mentioned actors. And the more I picture Patrick as Roland, the harder time I have picturing anybody else. So, even though I doubt it'll happen, Patrick is my top choice.
adamant877 - 7/17/2009, 12:01 AM
gibbyblaylock: Thanks for catching the "Mist" reference there, that was pretty class!
I have to say, I'm completely floored by the idea of Robert Patrick... That's a choice I honestly wouldn't have thought of on my own, and somehow, it fits!

I still say my first choice is Jane, but let's just say, I wouldn't be TOO dissappointed if Robert was chosen. ;-)

MatchesMalone - 7/17/2009, 7:32 AM
RolandofGilead-I can't believe you haven't posted on this article yet. Where are you?
StephenStrange - 7/17/2009, 8:44 AM
Lost is the only tv show I will bother to watch. I really don't have time for anything else anyway, but when that ends I don't see me replacing it with anything.
WulfComicFan - 7/17/2009, 9:30 AM
The man in black fled across the desert, the Gunslinger followed...was the best opening line ever! EVER!

@ Jojo, great pics man, thanks for the visual treat.

@ Roland, yeah where are ya? I put this up cuz of you an Mr Jojo...
WulfComicFan - 7/17/2009, 9:32 AM
@ Aaron gabbard, no $19 is NOT a typo. The number 19 is a HUGE part of the story line. That is why the sale for $19.
CorndogBurglar - 7/17/2009, 10:08 AM
i read an interview with jj abrams a while back about king selling him the rights for $19.00 because he knew that if anyone could do it, it would be jj. the 19.00 was just kind of a gag, as any dark tower fan knows the significance in that...

now lets hope JJ jumps on this next, or cloverfield 2??
CorndogBurglar - 7/17/2009, 10:12 AM
and i can't believe no one has said it yet! RYAN REYNOLDS FOR ROLAND'S BAG OF TOBACCO!
CorndogBurglar - 7/17/2009, 10:16 AM
@ GigglyBlaylock

yeah, that dark tower reference in the mist was really cool, kind of like how all of stephen king's books are related to each other through the dark tower series, very cool!!

WulfComicFan - 7/17/2009, 10:39 AM
@ Corndog LOL, I was gonna ryan Reynolds For OY , not his voice, but as Oy himself!
CorndogBurglar - 7/17/2009, 10:41 AM
@ Wulfcomicfan
