END OF YEAR POLL: Top Scene That Best Captured The Spirit Of The Character

END OF YEAR POLL: Top Scene That Best Captured The Spirit Of The Character

The moments in your favorite comic book movies of 2012 that made you say, "There's the _______ I know and love from the comics." Find out the moment from The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Avengers, Ghost Rider: SOV and Dredd.

There were moments in each of this year's comic book movies where the characters uttered lines where it felt like they'd stepped out of the pages of a comic book and on to the movie screen. Of course, in some cases, that moment came and went all too fast. Regardless, here are the nominees for the best scene that nailed its respective character.

"Call it,Cap."
It was never definitively stated who was the leader in Joss Whedon's Avengers film but this scene was the closest we came to acknowledging that Captain America leads Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

"I am THE LAW."
karl Urban played it even-keeled in this scene. Rather than shouting or trying to sound overly cool, the simple way Dredd utters these words makes it seem like he's stating facts not opinions.

"Oh, no! You've found my weakness. Small knives!"
I'll admit this film was a little tough. There were definitely some good performances in this film but aside from some early jokes, that was more-so a loose interpretation of the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man from Marvel comics. But I have to admit, when that scene debuted in one of the trailers, it got everyone buzzing about the film.

"Not everything, not yet."
I'm a big fan of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy but starting in Batman Begins, we've progressively moved away from what was an origin story pretty close to the source material, to a conclusion in The Dark Knight Rises where Batman retires to France. Still, this scene where Batman lets Catwoman know he's willing to put it all on the line is pretty definitive Dark Knight.

How about the Hulk wrecking sh*t?
ManofSteel23 - 12/20/2012, 2:58 PM
Ill say small knives, in avengers they would of done that anyways regardless of caps orders lol
DocHorrible - 12/20/2012, 2:58 PM
I would say either the Captain America scene or Spider-Man. I voted for the Spider-Man scene, but that was just because he's my favorite hero, and I loved seeing him cracking jokes. Actually, when he's heading to the bridge and says "I'm swingin' here!," I thought that was a perfect Spidey thing to say.
Jollem - 12/20/2012, 2:59 PM
this is a great example of cap being cap

tylerox9 - 12/20/2012, 3:00 PM
Batman will win because of Nolanites voting for him no matter what. but he really shouldnt considering he never followed through with those words anyways. they were meaningless.
InvictusPox - 12/20/2012, 3:02 PM
There's good and bad in all of us. It doesn't matter how far you run. There are some demons you just cant escape.
marvel72 - 12/20/2012, 3:04 PM
cap barking orders or the hulk f*ckin shit up.
Jollem - 12/20/2012, 3:04 PM
@InvictusPox - i'm a fan
SageMode - 12/20/2012, 3:04 PM
I think the scene where Banner leads into turning Hulk to layout that leviathan and the rotating group shot, and the continuous scene of the Avengers kicking the Chitauri ass consecutively are worthy mentions.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 12/20/2012, 3:09 PM
LoL, I was hoping there would be one for when Hulk either smiled or when Bruce said, "That's my secret, Captain.... I'm always angry." I thought that that particular scene(s) defined both Hulk and Bruce. Kudos to the crew and Joss for taking Hulk and making him what we CBMers loved throughout the comics. Hulk certainly shined throughout that film. :)

TheAmazingSpidey63 - 12/20/2012, 3:12 PM
@Sage - Most definitley, dude. Okay, I may give my vote to that beautiful rotating camera shot of The Avengers. That particular part in that scene was the big payoff of the whole movie, guys. It was just marvelous. Seeing that made the 5 year old in me just [frick]ing happy. :D
thewolfx - 12/20/2012, 3:14 PM
Jesus he put batman in the equation, these nolan sheep jave already made him won with this lame as line. Cap has my vote tho
TheGambitFreak - 12/20/2012, 3:14 PM
Captain Doing his thing, incontestably.

"A voice that could tame a Beast and command a God."

Funsize - 12/20/2012, 3:15 PM
Both Cap and Dredd
Darth258 - 12/20/2012, 3:15 PM
I'll go for the Spidey scene since the Banner turning into Hulk isn't there.
Darth258 - 12/20/2012, 3:19 PM
Backbreaker, hell yes.

ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 12/20/2012, 3:23 PM
1)Batman (not everything, not yet)

2)Captain America (I know that reference)

3)Hulk (puny god)

4)Dredd (never read the comic, so i don't know)
1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000) Spiderman - (small knives, fml)
shamo - 12/20/2012, 3:24 PM
Cap, no. Evans lacks the presence and maturity to pull off a convincing Cap.
Batman, no. Nolan doesn't seem even understand who Batman is. he was missing his cold arrogance.
Spidey, yes. he was spot on.
Dredd, haven't seen it.
silverdog - 12/20/2012, 3:24 PM

not only the spirit of the characters but the spirit of comic books in general, celebrating what they are.. not trying to disguise themselves as some pretentious "crime drama".
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 12/20/2012, 3:25 PM
and no i didn't vote, lmbo, who gives a [frick] about the polls.
Durf - 12/20/2012, 3:25 PM
All good moments, but I gotta go with Cap. That is him to a tee
Durf - 12/20/2012, 3:27 PM
@cipher: lol, yeah must be a bitch for them
Spideyguy94 - 12/20/2012, 3:28 PM
I'm going with dredd

@ManOfSuperGuy please don't comment on anything spider-man because you don't like him nor do you get him. And by the way the people in my theatre were all laughing when he was doing that so it done its job there.
Stormbreaker - 12/20/2012, 3:29 PM
If Cap had cried out "Avengers Assemble!," that would have cinched the deal. :)
Supes17 - 12/20/2012, 3:31 PM
To me the scene that actually captured the spirit of Batman was this scene

Reminded me of Batman's return in The Dark Knight Returns.
When I saw this, I was like "BATMAN'S IN THE HOUSE!"

BUT, I have seen the spirit of Batman captured in the previous two films as well, so I'm going with
Cap. This is the first time I see him on the field leading the Avengers.I thought it was pretty cool
permaturenut - 12/20/2012, 3:33 PM
in my opinion - i thought captain america just owned; personally when i watched that scene over and over i was like "omg that's f^%$ing cap, its so cap, lmfao! / it captured everything about him - i just can't get enough of the avengers. - plus on a bigger personal note im soo excited to be on this site. for months i've always come to this place besides a few others and this one has been sooo much more my favorite, especially with ppl's reactions to everything - the fans, the f^%$ing fans - you gotta love them.
PsyGuy - 12/20/2012, 3:33 PM
You need a Catwoman scene here!!
Jkks - 12/20/2012, 3:34 PM
"we've progressively moved away from what was an origin story pretty close to the source material, to a conclusion in The Dark Knight Rises where Batman retires to France."

Seriously guys, how many times will we have to say that Florence is in Italy and not in France ?
It makes you sound as uneducated as someone saying that Chicago is in Mexico.

Come on, it's just a matter of doing your homework.
Jollem - 12/20/2012, 3:34 PM
batman being chased by the cops but entirely disregarding them was also pretty sweet

@cipher - that scene was pretty neat, but anthony putting his life on the line was already covered in his own first movie. i kinda felt like we've seen that before. also, you rocked a tdkr avatar at first, right? what was your favorite part from the movie?
l0rdleg0las - 12/20/2012, 3:34 PM
Dredd laying down the law was epic. Not trying to intimidate or be loud and boisterous just calm and collected that gave him a pure badassery.
95 - 12/20/2012, 3:34 PM
Of the ones listed... I'll go with "Call it, Capt!".
gleetana - 12/20/2012, 3:37 PM

permaturenut - 12/20/2012, 3:38 PM
@silverdog - soooo way beyond agree; its like a f%^&ing comic book page come to life - scene for scene was like outta of my personal collection lol. BEST TIME TO BE A NERD, A FAN, JUST A TRUE BELIEVE THAT MOVIES AND IMAGAINATION AN BE ANYTHING WE WANT AGAIN - instead of some realism that brings down a mood! - when i watch movies i want to escape.
Darth258 - 12/20/2012, 3:39 PM
Agree with gleetana, those should be on top.
LAXtremest - 12/20/2012, 3:41 PM
In with Silverdog
TheGambitFreak - 12/20/2012, 3:44 PM
LOL at everyone voting because of reasons like, "They would've done that regardless of Cap's orders."

This isn't your favorite hero of 2012 people, this is the comic-to-movie character moment.

1. Captain America leading the team was perfect!

2. TDKR, that scene was amazing, and Catwoman kissing him was even more Fan-tastic (Pun intended). But I have never read a comic where he did anything close to that.

3. TASM, this scene was amazingly badass the first time I saw it in the trailer, but as it played in the movie, it felt stale to me. Regardless, it did match the "Are we battling Bikini Models this time" jokster I grew up with.

I've not read too many Dredd comics in my time. But I've ventured into it enough to know how much this means to the fans. Did the line originate in the 90's film or the comics?

Anyways, I've seen Spidey joke before, I've seen Batman willing to sacrifice himself, I've even seen Dredd murmur his catchphrase before (Though it counts as a parody). But 1 thing I have never seen was the American Sentinel of Liberty commanding Earth's Mightiest Heroes into a formidable battle. That, was my Childhood dream right there...

Minato - 12/20/2012, 3:45 PM
Avengers Assembled
Darth258 - 12/20/2012, 3:45 PM
omg i read that now, just watched the videos so far.
France? Really?

Here in Italy there were discussion even on the fact that Alfred chose Fernet Branca above other liqueurs... arguing i've never been into couse i don't drink.
