Michael Rooker On What We Can Expect From GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

The Walking Dead actor Michael Rooker talks more about his role as Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy, talking about what fans can expect from the movie and praising director James Gunn.

Guardians of the Galaxy won't hit theaters until August, but all the actors have been continuously talking about this movie. We haven't seen a trailer yet, so we didn't get to see the guardians in action, but we have seen some pretty great photos so far. That includes the set photos from back when they were filming. That also gave us our first look at a character many fans have been dying to see in this movie. The character played by The Walking Dead actor Michael Rooker, Yondu. In an interview with Unrendered Podcast (via ComicBook), Michael Rooker talked about his character's costume in the movie, what us fans can expect to see from the movie, and once again praises the director James Gunn. On the costume he will be wearing as his character Yondu and how it differs from the costume he wears in the comics, he says, “As you can see from some of the photos out there, I’m not in a loincloth. I don’t have a major, major fin thing that goes down my back. We haven’t visually gone with the way that Yondu was in the comics.” As many fans may know, Yondu was one of the original members of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Rooker said that we can all expect “Lovely, beautiful colors” from the movie. He says, “What do you expect? It is a superhero movie. And I hope that you see it, and you’re going to be going ‘I’m going to see this again.’ That’s what I hope.”

As some may know, Michael Rooker has worked with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn in the past. Gunn previously directed the actor in "Slither" and "Super." He clearly really loves Gunn, and he has praised him in the past as well. On re-teaming with the director, he said “It was a beautiful shoot. James Gunn was an awesome, awesome director to work with again. I’ve worked with him before in the past, and it was great to get to do it again.” Rooker was then asked what attracts him to James Gunn as an artist. He had this to say: “It’s what attracts him to me, not what attracts me to him. You’ve got the wrong question there. [Laughing] We get along well. We’ve been good friends since our first film.” While continuing to praise Gunn, Rooker added, “He allows me to do my thing, and he has great comments. Very good director…when you’re lost in the woods, he can direct you.” Are you looking forward to Rooker's performance as Yondu, and when do you expect a first trailer? Sound off below, and remember that Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters August 1st!

“Guardians of the Galaxy,” the next epic adventure from Marvel Studios, is directed by James Gunn from his screenplay, with a story by Nicole Perlman and Gunn, and the film will introduce audiences to a whole new side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. TheGambitFreak - 1/20/2014, 3:28 PM
This is what I'm talking about, talk, talk, talk, talk. ENOUGH! SHOW ME SOME [frick]ING FOOTAGE! YOU HAVE JUST SHY OF 7 MONTHS, YOU MORONS!!!

Until then, IDGAF about this production.
MrCBM56 - 1/20/2014, 3:28 PM
Man I can't wait.

Here's to hoping for a SuperBowl trailer!!
ezio619 - 1/20/2014, 3:32 PM
marvel recently has released there films first trailers 7 or 6 months before the movie releases, iron man 3 trailer was in october when the movie released in may, thor 2 trailer was in april when it released in november and cap trailer was in october when the movie releases in april,so im thinking next month or at the most March
batz11 - 1/20/2014, 3:34 PM
I was hoping there would be a major, major red fin...cgi the sucker...
guillimunster - 1/20/2014, 3:38 PM
if they don't reveal something soon, they're gonna have to start computer-generating interest in this movie, haha!
batz11 - 1/20/2014, 3:39 PM
Was hoping this would get a trailer released earlier than the 'typical' schedule Marvel has done in the past (see ezio's comment above) because this movie isn't a sequel and is really an unknown to most the public, so couple extra months marketing this baby could be the way to go...
MrCBM56 - 1/20/2014, 3:41 PM
Captain America: The First Avenger first footage appears with the Super-Bowl.
marvel72 - 1/20/2014, 3:42 PM
@ omegadagod

i said the same about a two weeks ago,if you remember when captain america the first avenger ended,it had that quick teaser for the avengers during the credits or was it after the credits.
SuperCat - 1/20/2014, 3:42 PM
This is my second time reading about the beautiful colors for this movie. Getting an "Avatar" vibe which isn't a bad thing as far as the art production.
MrCBM56 - 1/20/2014, 3:42 PM
I think they should've released a trailer with The Hobbit.
SuperCat - 1/20/2014, 3:44 PM
@ batz

Yea, I was sort of looking forward to a mega-fin too.
batz11 - 1/20/2014, 3:54 PM
Exactly SC, if any movie could get away with 'over-the-top' comic book look and feel, it would be GotG...After seeing the production pics of Yondu, was really hoping they'd cgi the big, red fin on, hope they do some type of fin at least...
LordHuck - 1/20/2014, 4:19 PM
They can still do a fin like Dr. Zoidberg has a fin.
ATrueHero1987 - 1/20/2014, 4:21 PM
Again, Marvel is being a real tease with the GOTG trailer.
soforizo - 1/20/2014, 4:21 PM
Feels like it's taking forever, and I'm highly skeptical of this project from what I've seen so far. The 1st trailer needs to absolutely rock, and it needs to be show in the Super Bowl (which I'm fully expecting).
McNyagano - 1/20/2014, 4:21 PM
Just waiting for the trailer.....

ezio619 - 1/20/2014, 4:22 PM
batz-idk,im fine with the mohawk type fin they have going inthe movie, they are gonna polish it up with cg etc.
batz11 - 1/20/2014, 4:24 PM
Yeah, I don't mind the mohawk either, but a little enhancement with cgi would be nice, hope they do...
ezio619 - 1/20/2014, 4:25 PM
i can understand gunn wanting the vfx of the movie to be on par with what we will see in the film, but i hope he relases a trailer next month cause i cant wait for it,i realllllllllllllly hope this movie is good, this sounds so cool and fresh and different, i am been liking what im hearing andseeing, im fine with the collectors look,i like how comic booky this is,it was a different tone then what people had experience before ,i think have a whole movie to have that tone will definitely benefit it,hopefully the first trailer rocks, for me personally,if done well, this could be my favorite superhero film in years
LeeroyJenkins - 1/20/2014, 4:27 PM
Stop whining like [frick]ing girls do you honestly care THAT much? I want to see this movie but I'm not crying about no trailer yet. Pussies
ezio619 - 1/20/2014, 4:27 PM
i know marvel is gonna show a new trailer with the supoerbowl for captain america winter soldier,i think the trailer for this film is gonna divide peoples opinions, some are gonna want to see it and some arent ,as pretty much usual,im rooting for this film to uscceed and be good most importantly
ezio619 - 1/20/2014, 4:29 PM
also i recently played uncharted 3 again(love that series) and only two actors can play nathan drake in my head. jensen ackles and star lord himself chris pratt, they can both do humor and drama and action really well
Pedrito - 1/20/2014, 4:29 PM
No fin, that's alright, but he'd better have the magic rings.
Oh wait...
ezio619 - 1/20/2014, 4:30 PM
earzmundo-well gunn did say the 2008 abnett and lanning series was a big influence on the film and he did invite abnett and lanning on set twice to meet the cast and see what they were doing and abnett and lanning were pumped as shit for it
ezio619 - 1/20/2014, 4:32 PM
im looking over the cast list and this such as bizarre mix of actors that it seems it may just work
MrCBM56 - 1/20/2014, 4:33 PM

Do us all a favor and never comment again.
ezio619 - 1/20/2014, 4:34 PM
i do hope that rocket has the cockney accent but if not ,im fine with it,atleast they didnt ignore it cause i know bradley cooper said that he and james gunn debated if they wanted to do a cockney accent or anew york type accent, we will see
GodzillaKart - 1/20/2014, 4:39 PM
I hope this is fantastic. It's downright surreal that GOTG is even being made.
ezio619 - 1/20/2014, 4:39 PM
i really hope audiences atleast give it a chance, i can definitely understand the wtf a raccoon and a tree reaction that this will most likely get,but frankly star wars was weird too, a gree lettle man, a big furry dude, what people loved about was the characters and the adventure and rooting for the underdogs, the unlikely heroes and guardians is all about that so fingers crossed....
ezio619 - 1/20/2014, 4:40 PM
i just want a good space adventure film, not something deep but has heart and great characters ,thats all i want for this one
ATrueHero1987 - 1/20/2014, 4:51 PM
lol! Funny thing is, @Kevin44 is the only one bitching on this thread.haha
Ramiel - 1/20/2014, 4:52 PM
We'll probably get a trailer for this movie around April before Winter Soldier comes out.
VISIONaryNPa - 1/20/2014, 4:53 PM
no fin!? dafuq?! Thats GAYYYYYYYY
LeeroyJenkins - 1/20/2014, 4:57 PM
Hahahaha go look at like the fourth comment down that guy was going off. It's cool that they are keeping it under wraps. It makes it more exciting
AlexanderLykins - 1/20/2014, 5:08 PM
Can we at least get some stills? Give us something man! We're going crazy! Oh and give me a trailer now!
VISIONaryNPa - 1/20/2014, 5:17 PM
i kid, i kid, but I'm sure he's getting some type of "FIN" in the film. It's going to be red, and it may be there.
AlexanderLykins - 1/20/2014, 5:17 PM
The trailer we get better be really good. Or this movie will go on the backburner until Age of Ultron comes out.
