ANNOUNCEMENT: No "Beat Galactus" Quiz Tonight - Instead, a VERY Special Episode of...MEET THE MANAGEMENT

We're postponing our regularly scheduled quiz at 5pm PST so that we can give our community a chance to question, criticize or outright castrate the owners. Jim and Nate will be there to take the heat, as will many of our volunteers. See you there!

As you know, Thursdays is usually reserved for our trivia quizzing in chat, and Sunday night was our "meet the management" chat--which we haven't done since last month. But given the events of the past weekend, we thought it was time again. So, meet us in chat at...

5:00pm PST in the Chatroom!
(6pm MST, 7pm Central, 8pm EST)
If you aren't in the U.S. click HERE for a time zone converter to figure out when to arrive.

In case ya don't know... The site Owners of ComicBookMovie.com are:
Our fearless leader is the product of an unholy union between closely related West Virginia hillbillies. Jim Littler, also known as Galactus, is the Overlord and Editor-in-Chief of CBM. He manages the site's content, contributors and volunteers, as well as all the marketing and promotion. He is a graduate of George Mason University in Virginia and has worked in content development at such Internet icons as AOL, UGO, Fandom.com and AnotherUniverse.com.

Nate Best is our "Master of the Web". He's the developer, designer and programmer that actually put this awesome mess together. Whenever there is a technical problem on the site, Nate is the one to put it right, and to reprimand Jim for messing around with his code. He is also an avid gamer and hosts "Beat Galactus" from time to time.

About ComicBookMovie.com
ComicBookMovie.com appeared online in 2003, just before the comic book movie boom hit big. Jim and Nate, both having a love of comic books and movies since childhood, left their jobs to develop CBM into what it is today--the #1 site in the genre with 8 million monthly visitors, and in the top 2000 of all websites on the entire web. The community that has developed on CBM is one of the most fun and entertaining aspects of our site.

In 2008, the site was converted to a "user-generated" model. The content is 100% produced BY the fans and users of the site. Articles submitted are voted to the homepage by users, or may be moved there by a volunteer editor. Regular contributors of quality articles are given privileges on the site ("trusted user" status) which allows them to bypass the editors and go directly to the main. Those who will agree to help edit the contributions of others for homepage placement, are given "power user" status. Any user interested in helping the site need only show they are willing and able to do so and they will be advanced. Competition for breaking news is high here, but that is also a part of what makes ComicBookMovie.com unique and fun. Join us!

Bring it!
ComicBookMovie - 3/7/2013, 9:31 AM
But anyone criticizing better have their facts straight, and the convo should be respectful. Most of our haters have an incorrect understanding of how this site works. That is why I put that short breakdown in the yellow blockquote above.
DrDoom - 3/7/2013, 9:35 AM

MisterNiceGuy - 3/7/2013, 9:39 AM
Do you really get that much hate? I mean, if they really have a problem with you or how the site works why are they here in the first place?
ComicBookMovie - 3/7/2013, 9:40 AM
Ah, I get it. You WANT to see the calendar, but can't.

Is anyone having that same problem? Can everyone see our calendar of events? CLICK HERE

Report back here if you CANNOT see the community calendar.

WaylonJones - 3/7/2013, 9:48 AM
Not sure anyone will have any questions for this guy, but I'll be there if you do. I am mostly there for moral support for Big G and Nate.
ComicBookMovie - 3/7/2013, 9:50 AM
MisterNiceGuy,
You'd be surprised how much hate being #1 gets you. It's usually irrational, and comes out of the lemming mind-set that people must dislike "the man". Our biggest haters are usually disgruntled contributors who don't understand how things work around here, and expect their articles to be fronted when they are riddled with errors or just plain uninteresting. A lot of that type are paranoid and jump to false conclusions that the volunteer editors are out to get them.

That is why I'm doing these "Meet the Management" chats in order to combat false information, and help those who truly want to improve and gain privileges on the site to do so.
WaylonJones - 3/7/2013, 9:55 AM
Tea @ How is my secret, that I do it for you is shall not remain one. ;)
MisterNiceGuy - 3/7/2013, 9:55 AM
Galactis
I hear ya. Although there is 1 editor that i find to be a bit immature and rude at times. But that is neither here nor there. Calander works fine btw.
MisterNiceGuy - 3/7/2013, 9:57 AM
What happened to the Mandarin article posted a few minutes ago? i can't open it...
MrYurMomm - 3/7/2013, 10:05 AM
You know, this is pretty cool of these guys. Willingly taking heat from us users, who don't pay a dime for our accounts, and just shrugging it off to allow us to blow our steam directly to them. Get your Galaxy Note's out, and take note, this is probably on of the best things management can do. It only strengthens the bonds between the "higher-ups" and us "regular" people. VERY admirable.

Scooby - 3/7/2013, 10:19 AM
[frick] the haters. This site and everyone involved in running it is awesome!

And for [frick]s sake, you morons that didn't get that ror's article was satire - read a [frick]ing book you idiots. Ror's article was satire. "Duh, I read comics cause it has pictures, duh" That's what you're coming off as. Idiots. Wether it was good satire or bad satire is something you can discuss - NOT wether or not it was satire. [frick] [frick] [frick]! Now I think it would've been better satire if Ror really pushed it - but he didn't. It was alright. Now [frick] off you twats.
DioFoRio - 3/7/2013, 10:27 AM
you guys don't have to do this shit and the fact that you are speaks volumes. to that I say...hand jobs for the both of you...tea and yoss have supple palms.
ComicBookMovie - 3/7/2013, 10:32 AM
Thanks Dio, Scooby, YurMomm, and all those who have said kind words. CBM is not owned by some giant corporation like so many sites out there. We're just two guys (and some awesome volunteers) who are trying to improve a fun destination for comics/movie lovers. We recognize that the fans are REALLY who run this site, and acknowledge that our success comes from that.
ComicBookMovie - 3/7/2013, 10:34 AM
Hey! What about MY stare?!! I call it "Magnum". Or maybe I'll change that to "Adamantium".
Slider13 - 3/7/2013, 10:37 AM
Does this mean that my Walking Dead quiz will be postponed till next week?
ComicBookMovie - 3/7/2013, 10:38 AM
I never thought of that, but yes. Nate bears a resemblance to Mark Strong. Although, unlike Mark, Nate only plays good guys.
MrReese - 3/7/2013, 10:46 AM

ComicBookMovie - 3/7/2013, 10:48 AM

NateBest - 3/7/2013, 11:17 AM
@batz11, @AcidicHeart - I just tested the calendar in Chrome (same version you're using batz11, Version 25.0.1364.152 m) and it's displaying as it should... Have you tried clearing your cache? I'm wondering if it's an old stylesheet that's hanging around in the browser cache...

There WAS an issue with Internet Explorer a while back, but it was fixed with a stylesheet update.

AmericanPsychoWolf - 3/7/2013, 11:22 AM
Why do I think this is gonna turn into a bloodbath?
EpicMan - 3/7/2013, 11:32 AM
Galactus! We have had some conversations in the past. Although i do not post here often i do visit the site atleast 4 - 5 times a day Mon - Fri.

I was just wondering if you guys could ever write some code to display our join date. Maybe something small under the Avatar like " Joined 3/15/08.

Something for us to wear as a badge of honor

GALACTUS INSERT: That will be happening in our next update within a month or so. Stay tuned.
StrangerX - 3/7/2013, 11:33 AM
So much has happened since 2008
EpicMan - 3/7/2013, 11:37 AM
OK... Even more since 2007
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 3/7/2013, 11:45 AM
Oh man, wish I could be there for the unintentional comedy, but I have to work.
Equivocal - 3/7/2013, 11:47 AM
I'll be at work but I have to suggestions:

- we need a "reply" button, so we can reply directly to that person I want to make my point across !

- we need a "like" button as well, some people are too damn smart for words, yep i'm looking at you Tea !!
ComicBookMovie - 3/7/2013, 11:51 AM
Equivocal,
Be sure to remind me of those questions in the chat, but an answer to both of those is that we don't want unnecessary drag on the server for unnecessary features. Is it really so hard to just reference a previous post when you comment in yours? Why break the flow of the string? And why is it so important to "thumbs up" or down a comment when you can just praise it (or bash it) with WORDS. I guess some people are just used to YouTube and Facebook, but we don't have millions to spend on extra servers to cover the extra load that those things take.
Marauder - 3/7/2013, 12:08 PM
Nate Best looks a lot like Mark Strong, they could be brothers:

Wrez - 3/7/2013, 12:33 PM
Been coming to CBM since 2007, and continue to do so a few times a day.

I wont be able to make the chat, lecture at school will keep me preoccupied :( I do however have a question for you Big G.

What is your stance on some of the major spoilers that get posted on the main page. Sometimes the title of an article is the spoiler with no alert what so ever. An example could be something like the zombie Shane picture during season 2 of The Walking Dead being posted days before the actual airing. As an avid comic book reader it really came as no shock to myself (saw it coming miles away), but I recommend this site to my friends who aren't as keen on the reading material. This makes both myself and this site look bad.

This happens with comic previews and other sources as well. I read a title on the main page and all of a sudden I know the surprising conclusion to a comic I was looking forward to reading the following week. I am aware that this site is all about keeping fans informed of coming events, but I believe that there has to be a better way to let the reader decide on what they want to read or see for a spoiler. Is there a system in place to monitor these pictures and titles? Do some editors just not care? Sometimes I feel like the author of the article is just being lazy with their titles to get people to read the said article.

Again none of this has deterred me from coming here quite often, and I will continue to do so. Keep up the good work!

GALACTUS INSERT: To answer this question you first need to understand that this site is 100% user-generated--and is EXACTLY what the average visitors to this site WANT to see and hear. I myself do very little writing any more except for the odd editorial, announcement and contest copy. The breaking news, pics, video, everything is supplied by you guys.

Having said that, I am responsible for the top story focus, and yes I have taken heat for some headlines and pictures up there. BUT... I am of the opinion that there are too many ideas about WHAT a spoiler is, and since I can't guess who is going to be offended, I simply use my own judgement and let the chips fall where they may.

Let's take your example... The zombie Shane pic that I posted in the top story to promote another user's article... In that instance, the episode had already aired the night before (you can check that out on the wayback machine: http://web.archive.org/web/20120313140609/http://www.comicbookmovie.com/). So, your accusation is incorrect. So in my mind, that is not even a spoiler, yet I got a lot of flak for that because the show is a week behind in the UK. But what would you have me do? Post only week old news? I don't think so.

Bottom line really is that it is simply too hard to guess what different people consider spoilers, and to control what everybody posts and how they post it. My rule is simple. We are a breaking news site first. If it's news, post it. And there is nothing wrong with a littl hyping the "good bits" in the top story. Every contributor to this site is going to have their own sensitivities about spoilers, so they can post that stuff however they want to. That is what I think works best. After all, what are you doing here if you don't want ALL the comic book movie news?
MisterNiceGuy - 3/7/2013, 12:51 PM
are you guys working on a mobile app?
dezdigi - 3/7/2013, 12:52 PM
I'll try to be there for this awesome sh*t show! If not, everyone have fun!
BloodredNemesis - 3/7/2013, 1:32 PM
Hi guys,

I have been on this site probably every day without fail for YEARS, I'd just like to say THANKS for setting up the greatest movie website I've been on and keep up the good work!

GALACTUS INSERT: Thanks Bloodred!

fettastic - 3/7/2013, 1:39 PM
@Jim, you and I locked horns last week over that Woodley debacle. I called you out and you shot me with a lightning bolt.....but you didn't ban me. Most senior editors would have banned me. So for that you get cool points. :)

GALACTUS INSERT: I really do try to NOT get rid of anyone who adds to the fun of the site. Only the dicks who are constantly trashing us, and in the case of those CBC supporters, USING CBM to get traffic while insulting and bashing us. I appreciate that you chilled out when I said you were on thin ice. I'm really not a bad guy, and can take a helluvalotta crap before I dump somebody.
fettastic - 3/7/2013, 1:45 PM
I have written for several newspapers and online sites. Hell Sony even quoted me in their marketing (although the idiots misquoted me), so I have considered writing for CBM. However I don't have much drive for that sort of thing anymore. I say what I want to say in comments, short and sweet, without having to have a narrative architecture behind it.
fettastic - 3/7/2013, 1:56 PM
He didn't even delete any of my comments! I've been on sites where a flame war broke out and whole threads were deleted and swaths of posters banned. So for Jim to just take me over his knee for a minute and call it a day shows character. He's definitely earned respect from me.
Hawksblueyes - 3/7/2013, 2:25 PM
MAN! I'm going to try to make it tonight. I don't get to sit in and comment as much as I'd like to anymore (much less contribute) but I can testify to the fact that Jim and Nate are two of the most fair individuals I've had the pleasure of working with.

As much grief as I've seen them take on a daily basis, for the four years that I've been involved with this site, I can honestly say that when somebody does get banned or called out and reprimanded, it's not until AFTER they have been given every opportunity not to be.

They both have much more patience than I ever will.
ComicBookMovie - 3/7/2013, 2:26 PM
Thanks Hawk!
Hawksblueyes - 3/7/2013, 2:42 PM
Anytime!
