EXCLUSIVE Interview With Byung-Hun Lee: RED 2, G.I. JOE & His Special Tribute To His Father

I had a phone interview with South Korean movie star Lee Byung-Hun today, and we discussed Red 2, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and how a very special scene in his latest film fulfilled a dream that his late father had. Hit the jump to check it out.

1:20 - Is American humor difficult for a foreign actor?
2:20 - Did Dean Parisot let him play with different versions of a scene
3:28 - Favorite Red 2 scene? He shares a story about how a picture of his father is used in a scene. Since his late father dreamed of being an actor, he was able to fulfill that dream for him.
5:10 - What was it like working with Bruce Willis and Helen Mirren?
6:10 - Did he feel comfortable enough to ad-lib?
9:00 - The "Grasshopper" scene
9:54 - Would he return for Red 3?
10:20 - Which actor or director would he most like to work with in the future?
11:15 - Will he return for the next G.I. Joe?
11:45 - Humanizing Storm Shadow
12:20 - Favorite scene from G.I. Joe: Retaliation
13:50 - Interested in trying different genres in Hollywood

RED 2 - "Retired black-ops CIA agent Frank Moses reunites his unlikely team of elite operatives for a global quest to track down a missing portable nuclear device." The film was directed by Dean Parisot ("Galaxy Quest"), from a screenplay written by Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber. It stars: Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Anthony Hopkins, David Thewlis, Brian Cox, Neal McDonough, Byung-hun Lee and Mary-Louise Parker. Red 2 hits theaters July 19, 2013.

Great interview, nail...although the end sounded a little awkward. Haha, but love the guy as an actor.

ok this is off point. but that clip made me wonder. Am I the only guy here who would totally pole the hell out of Helen Mirren?

^On point ;)
I've wanted to give Helen the sword ever since I saw her in Excalibur back in the 80's. I feel no different today lol

He's a crappy actor. I hope the studio's leave him out of Marvel and future DC films.
MightyZeus - 6/24/2013, 12:18 AM
Give Helen Mirren more work though. She's awesome.

Great actor. What the heck is grandma doing with guns? Have anyone seen his older films? He is very versatile in his roles.

HOpe he doesn't get the stupid martial arts expert stereotype roles that Hollywood producers LOVE to give to Asian actors. This is how they get rid of them.
LEOSTRATOR - 6/24/2013, 9:12 AM
Check out his movie " I saw the devil " best revenge movie ever.

SunfireUrA55- Agree with you. LBH is a great actor and hope he isn't sterotyped in his future Hollywood projects. He's pretty much Tom Cruise/Brad Pitt in Korea so he doesn't need to do the action/martial arts films here. Along with "I Saw the Devil", you should check out his masterpiece "A Bittersweet Life", his nod to the 60s western "The Good, the Bad, and the Weird", and his comedic turn in "Everybody Has Secrets"(remake of "About Adam"). One of his best works is "JSA" which he made near the start of his career. You'll be amazed to see that he's barely aged in any of his projects.
