1987's ROBOCOP Gets An Honest Trailer

Jose Padilha's upcoming RoboCop reboot lands in theaters next month and Screen Junkies has decided this is the right time to unveil their "Honest Trailer" for Paul Verhoeven's 1987 classic. Must see!

There's a new law enforcer in town and he's half man, half machine! From the director of Total Recall and Basic Instinct comes a "sci-fi fantasy with sleek, high-powered drive" (Time) about an indestructible high-tech policeman who dishes out justice at every turn! When a good cop (Peter Weller) gets blown away by some ruthless criminals, innovative scientists and doctors are able to piece him back together as an unstoppable crime-fighting cyborg called "RoboCop." Impervious to bullets and bombs, and equipped with high-tech weaponry, RoboCop quickly makes a name for himself by cleaning up the crime-ridden streets of violence-ravaged Detroit. But despite his new, hardened exterior, RoboCop is tormented by scraps of memory of his former life, and relives vivid nightmares of his own death at the hands of the vicious killers. Now he is out to seek more than justice...he wants revenge!

Actors: Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Dan O'Herlihy, Ronny Cox, Kurtwood Smith

Robocop is no masterpiece. There's some great action, music, and one-liners, but there's a lot of garbage that (in lieu of "hasn't aged well") wasn't good in the first place.

The black goon's laugh, and really all of the cronies working with Boddicker.
Miguel Ferrer has turned to voice-acting for a reason... although his lines would have been stupid-sounding either way.

So a lot of it is obvious dark comedy and satire, and that's fine, but it just didn't balance well with the serious themes, and there's very little room for any emotional depth, apart from Murphy's moments by himself or towards the end.

I'm not for the reboot, but I can understand how it COULD be better (but likely won't be).

...and Lindsay Lohan. LOL

Basically just like modern Detroit. ROTFLOL
PersonOfNoInterest - 1/28/2014, 4:33 PM
I dunno. I have to admit, I was against the reboot until I watched the previews. It seems as if they are dealing with modern day issues and may end up making a meaningful film. Besides... Batman is in it. How can it be bad? Has Michael Keaton ever made a bad film?I mean... before 1996...?

Mr. Mom was awesome.

This movie needs a remake just for the part where ED209 was defeated by stairs and then squealed like a pig. Hey we built this badass war machine that can't even negotiate stairs.

[frick] anybody who wants a remake
Ronnie11 - 1/28/2014, 10:46 PM
Robocop did get the detroit future right
JediPhilosopher - 1/28/2014, 11:48 PM
Good points here. My biggest problem with the remake is this: You have the character, Robocop. Okay, you have to get the character right. Refer to source material for his origins and characteristics. Okay, did they do that? Apparently not. That's my problem. I'm not against them making him more active and giving him more movement. But they changed what the charcater is when they changed how he was made. He still has a human hand?
JediPhilosopher - 1/28/2014, 11:53 PM
The slinky vs. ed-209 :P

Try remaking a movie that actually needs a remake.
They should have done an all new robocop and Set it 50
years after the original with All new characters.
Tainted87 - 1/29/2014, 7:14 AM
I don't think anyone actually said they WANTED a remake, it's more of "we'll tolerate it".
I don't plan on watching it unless I'm bored, which is likely to happen, but anyway, it's like the third Paul Verhoeven movie to get remade. He might not be the BEST director, but he's done some outstanding work.
It isn't on the same level as the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Let (the Right One) Me In, or Oldboy, as it's as old as me.... but it really is just expensive fan-fic.
riseofloganX36 - 1/29/2014, 11:15 AM
Proving my point that the remake is useless and pure garbage. They should just put out the real robocop movie origanal.

I'll buy that for a dollor.
