ROBOCOP - Photo Of EM-208 Drone

One of Omnicorp's many robotic creations, the EM-208s are used together with the ED-209s as ground troops and are the precursor cyborg Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman). Now hitting theaters in 2014, is Robocop still on your radar?

SYNOPSIS: The year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Murphy’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

RoboCop is an upcoming 2014 American science fiction action film directed by José Padilha. It is a remake of the 1987 film of the same name, portraying the character's development into an officer transformed into a cyborg. The film stars Joel Kinnaman in the title role, with Gary Oldman as Dr. Robert Norton, Michael Keaton as Raymond Sellars, Samuel L. Jackson as Pat Novak, Abbie Cornish as Ellen Murphy, and Jackie Earle Haley as Maddox.

Screen Gems first announced a remake in 2005, but it was halted one year later. Darren Aronofsky and David Self were originally assigned to direct and write the film, respectively, for a tentative 2010 release. However, the film was delayed numerous times, and Padilha signed on in 2011. In March 2012, MGM announced a tentative 2013 release, but the film was pushed to 2014. The principal characters were cast from March to July 2012. Principal photography began in September 2012 in Toronto, with additional locations in Hamilton, and Detroit in the United States.

The film is scheduled for release in the United States on February 7, 2014.

war machine? ; )
jessepostal - 1/19/2013, 2:09 PM
It looks like they are going very futuristic with this. I always liked robocop because he was kind of the only one, besides Ed 209.
DioFoRio - 1/19/2013, 2:32 PM
^^^What Jesse said. Defeats the purpose of using robocop then. I'll watch this like all other remakes that I'm interested in...if it sucks...then I still have the original. Remake :1 Original:20 +
ManofSteel23 - 1/19/2013, 2:47 PM
Well it makes sense,if they can make a robot man who says they couldn't make normal robots before him
jessepostal - 1/19/2013, 2:58 PM
@superman, but than what makes robo so special?
ManofSteel23 - 1/19/2013, 3:18 PM
Free will?
jessepostal - 1/19/2013, 3:40 PM
Hasn't that been done way to many times already
DukeAcureds - 1/19/2013, 4:03 PM
I'm still on the fence.
I'm dubious. Not Michael Bay's Ninja Turtles dubious, but dubious, nonetheless.

The original is just so perfect. And this seems a bit Total Recall. Now, I really didn't mind the Total Recall all that much, but ultimately it wasn't a patc on the original. This one has a lot more talent working on it, but then RoboCop was a million times more of a masterpiece than Total Recall ever was, so it has a much harder job to do than the Total Recall remake ever had.
TheSoulEater - 1/19/2013, 6:55 PM
Thats kinda bad ass

MiVigilante - 1/19/2013, 9:00 PM
This'll make the fight with murphy a little more interesting than the original at least haha no complaints with the original though, just glad theyre doing something different
mgeoff88 - 1/19/2013, 11:15 PM
That actually looks cool, but now there is too many cyborgs in this movie.

@jessepostal You're right. I just want one Robocop. Not an army.
RichardHedski - 1/19/2013, 11:18 PM
This movie will make Robocop 3 look like Robocop 2.
Maia87 - 1/20/2013, 1:09 AM
Iron Man anyone?
Seejay - 1/20/2013, 1:33 AM

Well it do look similar to the Iron man 2 style armor/drones.

But really, a robot that is supposed to look like a man, can only look in a certain way.
MisterBabadook - 1/20/2013, 2:13 AM
The second half of Seejay's comment just now is right.
beane2099 - 1/20/2013, 9:06 AM
Makes sense to me. They want a robot that can make decisions on the battlefield. That's a fairly typical scifi trope.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 1/20/2013, 9:22 AM
Looks like an Iron Man villain.

wait this movie was already made yaknow it came out in the 80s
larsenkev - 1/20/2013, 12:20 PM
Yeah I think they should call me before they start on projects just so I can warn them that they're going to lose money on a project; "Hey Kev, should we make a Wonder Woman movie?" "No." "Hey Kev, should we remake Total Recall?" "No. You're going to lose money." "Hey Kev, should we remake Robocop?" "Nope, NO ONE WILL SEE IT!!!" Is it too much to ask for some originality out of Hollywood? C'mon Heavenly Nolan, we need your guidance.

@KamenRiderJ22 - "God I want it to be good, but Hollywood has done nothing but disappoint when it comes to reboots and remakes."

Not true. Occasionally it doesn't. Sometimes we get Ben Hur, The Magnificent Seven, Invasion of the Body Snatchers '78, Scarface, The Thing, Cronenberg's The Fly, Cape Fear, The Ring, Insomnia, Ocean's 11, The Departed, Man on Fire, and depending on your position on Zack Snyder, Dawn of the Dead, to name a few.

Occasionally, Hollywood can get it right. Given the chasm of years between the ones that worked between the ones that (often) don't, it's a sad rarity. Here's hoping this is one of the good ones.

HES GOT A PISSING HUMAN HAND!!!! unless its full body prosthesis then it defeats the whole point of Robocop and why the original is such a great movie classic. Besides anything else it makes no sense and looks completely shit!!!. The first thing anyone would do would shoot his human hand off!!!
