1998's GODZILLA Gets An Honest Trailer

With the new Godzilla headed to theaters this weekend it seems about right for Screen Junkies to release an "Honest Trailer" for Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin's Godzila.

Following the French atomic bomb tests in the South Pacific, an unknown creature is spotted passing westward through the Panama Canal. Scientist Niko Tatopolous is called in to investigate the matter, and he quickly arrives at the conclusion that a giant, irradiated lizard has been created by the explosions. Godzilla then makes its way north, landing at Manhattan to begin wreaking havoc in the big city. Even with the combined forces of the U.S. military to fight the monster, will it be enough to save the people of New York?

Actors: Matthew Broderick, Jean Reno, Maria Pitillo & Hank Azaria
Director: Roland Emmerich * Screenwriters: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin

What can you say, I guess a lot of people like rubber... :L
MrGlass - 5/13/2014, 11:17 AM

Rubber? more like Kevlar cloth

Rubber is Tim Burtons Batman
Bloodraven - 5/13/2014, 11:52 AM
This is the Batman and Robin of Godzilla movies. Here's hoping the new one is the Batman Begins.
campblood - 5/13/2014, 12:27 PM
this movie was so bad it made me cry to see what they did to Godzilla . just terrible
DrunkenNukem - 5/13/2014, 12:29 PM
LMFAO...this was a great honest trailer

BackwardGalaxy - 5/13/2014, 12:56 PM
It's really not that bad as long as you can FF through all of the scenes with the blonde in them. It's popcorn and kinda fun.
slyrax - 5/13/2014, 1:19 PM
Looking forward to seeing the Rifftrax guys take this on in August. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rifftrax/rifftrax-wants-to-riff-godzilla-live-in-theaters-n

OK, so someone else remembers The Box. That's where you got to see all the 2 Live Crew and DJ Laz videos (who no one remembers).
JazzBebopHero - 5/13/2014, 1:33 PM
Ha ha ha. That was a great Honest Trailer.

To this very day, it's the only so-called Godzilla film that is not in my collection.
KBZ - 5/13/2014, 1:48 PM
[frick] the haters. I'll always love that movie. Just a different spin on Godzilla.
KBZ - 5/13/2014, 1:52 PM
Yeah its stupid, but what summer movie in the 90s didn't?
KBZ - 5/13/2014, 1:54 PM
@BloodRaven Someone hasn't seen Godzilla's Revenge or Godzilla vs. Megalon
KBZ - 5/13/2014, 1:58 PM
**wasn't** not didn't
TheAstoundingMan - 5/13/2014, 2:12 PM
I had the temptation to watch this film again.

Not anymore. How do they kill her in the end?
pointman - 5/13/2014, 2:35 PM
Usually it takes me a few times of watching a movie for it to sink in that it stinks but this one hit me halfway through the movie. And dated? it was dated before the end of the movie! The CGI was terrible even for its day. Ughhh, its not even on a "so bad its good" level.
Opticblast - 5/13/2014, 2:43 PM
The CGI was not only dated at the time of it's release, but it was also unfinished. Check out some of the scenes when Godzilla is chasing the taxicab through the city. You can literally see blue spots on Godzilla's scales if you pause it in certain scenes.
Nomis1800 - 5/13/2014, 2:44 PM
Honest Trailers stays fun

marvel72 - 5/13/2014, 3:40 PM

"Yeah its stupid, but what summer movie in the 90s didn't?"

terminator 2 judgement day
jurassic park
total recall

spring to mind.
KBZ - 5/13/2014, 5:15 PM
Godzilla 98 was blue tinted btw. And the CGI was fantastic for its time. I guess winning a Saturn award means nothing?
SuperSomething616 - 5/14/2014, 1:14 AM
'Good Luck Eisenberg!!!'
