BOX OFFICE: EDGE OF TOMORROW Earns $1.8 Million At Thursday Night Showings

Doug Liman's Edge of Tomorrow (starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt) finally reached North America yesterday evening, and despite almost unanimously positive reviews - it has a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes - the sci-fi movie may only earn around $25 million this weekend. Check it out!

Edge of Tomorrow has all the makings of a hit, but with The Fault In Our Stars poised to grab moviegoers attention this weekend, the $178 million budgeted movie looks set to debut in the $25 million range after earning $1.8 million at late Thursday night showings. However, that bests Tom Cruise's last sci-fi movie Oblivion, and some analysts believe that Edge of Tomorrow could earn as much as $35 million. It's simply too early to say at this point! However, since debuting overseas (where the Mission Impossible actor is a much bigger box office draw) in a handful of locations, the Doug Liman helmed movie has earned $33 million. Now, it looks set to also open in key territories including China, Russia, Australia, France and Mexico. Stay tuned for further updates!

SuperCat - 6/6/2014, 10:12 AM
The movie is probably as good as people are saying but I'm gonna wait for the DVD.
Darktower - 6/6/2014, 10:13 AM

McNyagano - 6/6/2014, 10:13 AM
Was a great film. Didn't think it'd be that good but it really surprised me. Funny, emotional and action packed. 9/10 Go watch it folks:)
Luminus - 6/6/2014, 10:16 AM
I'll wait for it to come on network television. >;) Oblivion almost put me to sleep. I can't believe I bought it.

Deserve more!
If good, smart & entertaining scifi films won't make money how will we get more!

CherryBomb - 6/6/2014, 10:25 AM
This deserves so much more!

Watched Tom and Emily on The Graham Norton Show and they were absolutely hilarious!
Snotzo - 6/6/2014, 10:26 AM
Flippity flappity flop. To bad, critically praised and a good cinemascore, but summer has become overcrowded with blockbusters.
MercwithMouth - 6/6/2014, 10:27 AM
I called this. Me and someone got into it about DOFP's box-office legs, with him saying that EoT would eat away at DOFP. I told him EoT would only do $20-$25million. Looks like that's what will happen.

I'm sure I'll see it on video, but for me, Cruise hasn't made a truly great film since the first Mission: Impossible.
Gamera623 - 6/6/2014, 10:28 AM
Its tragic when an awesome movie doesnt make the money it deserved (Pacific Rim & John Carter for example).

Its even more tragic when the actors and people who made it poke fun at their own movie and call it bad because it didnt make the money.
Not that Tom Cruise or anyone has for this...I just dont ever want to see that happen.
blackandyellow - 6/6/2014, 10:30 AM
So do you guys pretty much go to the movies every weekend?
CherryBomb - 6/6/2014, 10:31 AM
It's a shame they didn't push this back, it could've done well towards the end of summer.
YoungThanos - 6/6/2014, 10:32 AM
I'll try and check it out in IMAX.
CherryBomb - 6/6/2014, 10:32 AM

Nah I don't think Tom and Emily will do that, on the interview with Graham Norton they said how hard it was to film in those heavy Exo-suits but they seem to be really proud of the movie.
Omarvls - 6/6/2014, 10:33 AM
25 million on opening weekend

That sucks

A FLOP for a great movie

yossarian - 6/6/2014, 10:33 AM
@B&Y - Does that surprise you? Does it really surprise you that people who take movie opinions so personal see a ton of movies?
Omarvls - 6/6/2014, 10:35 AM
Emily Blunt turned down Black Widow

Who would she play

yonny616 - 6/6/2014, 10:36 AM
This movie was fantastic. Deserves so much more.
Brainiac13 - 6/6/2014, 10:39 AM
Emily Blunt is gorgeous. :)
zerovoltage - 6/6/2014, 10:40 AM
it was really good! this is no Oblivion guys ... it's heart breaking to see this good a movie earn such terrible figures.
captainireland - 6/6/2014, 10:41 AM
It'll be disappointing if it doesn't earn the box office returns it deserves. If it doesn't do well, I'll take comfort from the fact it's self contained and not meant to start a franchise so that those of us who enjoyed it can continue to do so for years to come without having to wonder, "what if?"

I'm not going to the movies this weekend.
I have to take Nomis to the barber.

JorL5150 - 6/6/2014, 10:48 AM
Tom cruise is popular over seas where he's as short as the locals
JorL5150 - 6/6/2014, 10:49 AM
My daughter wants to see that other thing - the teenager movie

MatTaylorX - 6/6/2014, 10:50 AM
And yet Transformers will make close to a billion. Rather annoying.
HeavensWarrior - 6/6/2014, 10:50 AM
Im starting to feel like comic book movies is starting to have the "good and bad effect" for other movies.kinda feel like most movies these days besides comic book adaptations won't have that box office success
sKeemAn - 6/6/2014, 10:50 AM
Yep I'll wait for download *cough*. I haven't went to a Tom Cruise premiere since MI:2.
blackandyellow - 6/6/2014, 10:52 AM
LMAO yoss, I guess you're right.
samster10001 - 6/6/2014, 10:53 AM
I give up on people and their obsession and fascination with generic tween sappy romance movies. P.S., Shailene Woodley the most average girl ever dies at the end of the movie.
MercwithMouth - 6/6/2014, 10:54 AM

Edge of Tomorrow only did $30 million in 27 countries last weekend. But, at least this weekend he'll have China and Brazil. I would predict around $12 million in China. Not sure about Brazil, never payed attention to their recent numbers for summer blockbusters. I guess winter down there...
zerovoltage - 6/6/2014, 10:58 AM
@HeavensWarrior actually, it's an adaptation of a japanese novel & a manga version "All You Need Is Kill", so it should be considered a comic book movie

JorL5150 - 6/6/2014, 10:59 AM
Folks I just want to tell you - from the bottom of my heart - that I will NEVER take for granted how awesome it is that you all have me here to bring joy and mirth into your lives. It's truly humbling how awesome I am what with my sexist drunken humor and wisdom from various fortune cookies.

Just trying to bring a little sunshine - except to the albinos, but you know - the love is there.
CaptShipwreck - 6/6/2014, 11:02 AM
Support an original film or just keep getting sequels to other stuff
LAsBruceWayne - 6/6/2014, 11:03 AM
Demanded my girl that we will be watching this instead of Malifecent... It better pay off or I'm gunna hear it like no other......

Forthas - 6/6/2014, 11:07 AM
I think that this highlights the importance of having a built in audience such as with comic books and young adult novels. The fact that Tom Cruise is getting this much competition (in apparently a really good film) from a young adult novel film with NO A list stars speaks volumes and is somewhat troubling.
