Dan Aykroyd Shares New GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Plot Details

Saturday Night Live alum, Dan Aykroyd, was a guest on Larry King Now and reveals some interesting details concerning the plot of Ghostbusters 3. Hit the jump to check it out.

A couple weeks ago Dan Aykroyd announced that Ghostbusters 3 would start filming by the end of the year. And then just the other day Dan was interviewed on Larry King Now. Of course Larry asked about Bill Murray joining the cast, but the answer is still the same. Bill has no interest, but there is always a role in the film if he changes his mind, which no one expects him to do.

As for the new info. Well, Dan says that they need four new Ghostbusters, which I know isn't new, but what is new is the specifics on where the four new Ghostbusters will come from, and why.

“We’re going to have to cast. We need four new ghostbusters. We need four new Columbia students.”

“It’s based upon new research that’s being done in particle physics by the young men and women at Columbia University. Basically there’s research being done that…I can say that the world or our dimension that we live in, our four planes of existence, length, height, width, and time, become threatened by some of the research that is being done. And Ghostbusters, new Ghostbusters have to come and some the problem.”

IIIAdamantiumIII - 5/20/2013, 10:00 AM

Hellsing - 5/20/2013, 10:03 AM
Just make the movie already at least this guy will stop [frick]ing talking about it!
ATrueHero1987 - 5/20/2013, 10:08 AM
I love Ghostbusters. Grew up with it, and been waiting for a 3rd movie for the longest. That being said, just reboot this.
ATrueHero1987 - 5/20/2013, 10:10 AM
@MARVELPSYCHO79 I agree, I just want to see the original 4.
JoeMomma29 - 5/20/2013, 10:11 AM
Yeah with Murray I will pass on this. The first movie was great due to the chemistry of Murray and Aykroyd.
KeefNCookies - 5/20/2013, 10:13 AM
I might not even see this movie for free... absolutely flabbergasted why anyone would want this. The original was fun but by no means would I want another, or watch the original again for that matter.
comicb00kguy - 5/20/2013, 10:13 AM
There is enough control here by the original creators that I trust we're going to get something good here and not yet another sh*t-eating reboot that has zero respect for what made the concept work in the first place.

While I do want to see the original guys (and I would love to see Murray, but if he doesn't want to do it, film it without him), I'm cool with the idea of a passing-the-torch story. I just hope they can find a truly funny new group that has the same great on-screen chemistry as the original crew had.

Sounds like a plausible problem, I like it, it feels like coming around to the first one where they were studying at a university. Can't wait to see who they cast.

I liked this guy. But now, well.. look at the clip above.
pesmerga44 - 5/20/2013, 10:19 AM
People who are asking for the original ghostbusters to be the heroes is one of the main reasons why Murray doesn't want to be in this movie. He feels they are all to old to be the main heroes and that they should just reboot the film. This way if they get a new class of ghostbusters with the original 4 being their mentors we can have the best of both worlds and hopefully get Murray on this project.
rkshuttleworth - 5/20/2013, 10:20 AM
I was hoping Dan would learn from Blues Brothers 2000 - He should have waited until he had a good enough script that Jim Belushi would have been a part of the film.

Come on people everyone knows Murray only accepts the worst film roles going.

I love Batz's new tattoo!

For those who want a third story, go buy a PS3 or Xbox 360, and pick up the game. It even has Bill Murray. Better then any threequel would be.
supermarioworldE - 5/20/2013, 11:02 AM

; )
jlabatman - 5/20/2013, 11:03 AM
I'm with you IM53, may not be great, (most assuredly not as good as the first), but I still want to see it made and want to watch it!
BookerDewitt - 5/20/2013, 11:04 AM
ghostbusters 3 release date is 3023. because we are never going to see a 3rd film
marantaz - 5/20/2013, 11:17 AM
Dan... WHY?
DukeAcureds - 5/20/2013, 11:38 AM
Shit, that sounds really good. Go Danny!
But they should cast an all-female cast. Why? Why not? I mean, I really could't think of many male actors that could fit the same sort of archetypes of the original ghostbusters, but there're plenty of women.
I'd say Kat Dennings as the new Ackroyd.
Emma Stone as the new Murray.
Mary Elzabeth Winstead as the new Ramis.
And Jenny Lawrence as the new Ernie Hudson.
nach1wan - 5/20/2013, 11:40 AM
i cant believe they are still trying with ghostbusters 3... just reboot it and be done with it
darkjoker1 - 5/20/2013, 11:49 AM
so this feels like the animated show the new ghostbusters XD gee this going to be so awesome XD
sephiroth211 - 5/20/2013, 12:24 PM
Hey Mr. Aykroyd give Mr. Murray some of this if he doesn't wanna join!!

DukeAcureds - 5/20/2013, 12:37 PM
MARVELPSYCHO@ Anyone from SNL would be certainly welcome. Keeping it in the same crowd and such. Keeping that whole Second City Players thing alive. Thta'd be good.
nach1wan@ That is pure sacrilige, sir.
At least this whole thing doesn't sound like Ghostbusters II. I mean that was a lark and all, but it was just a 2 hour curtain call for the first film, really. This sounds like a bit of thought might have actually gone into it and it's topical, too, what with the Hadron Collider and all that.
DukeAcureds - 5/20/2013, 12:38 PM
But yeah, still... no Bill? No fvcking dollar, bitches!
LancerEvo - 5/20/2013, 12:38 PM
Goddammit Murray, quit being a douche and just jump in already.
ComicFan1134 - 5/20/2013, 12:46 PM
At This Point, It's Safe To Say As Much As We Want A GB3, It Just Aint Gonna Happen And Reporting ON Anything Otherwise Is A Waste Of Time.
jimoakley666 - 5/20/2013, 12:54 PM
Sorry Dan, but no Venkman means no shits given.
TheGreenNinja - 5/20/2013, 1:50 PM
Murray say yes ! And no shia leboef!!
jimoakley666 - 5/20/2013, 1:55 PM
@SotoJuiceMan - EGB was shit.
Timerider84 - 5/20/2013, 2:18 PM
No Bill=Crap, you can't do it without him, if you do, you won't make as much as you want. The movie will be a turd. You NEED HIM!!!
LAXtremest - 5/20/2013, 2:33 PM
I think Ghostbusters could make an awesome live action TV show.
GarthRanzz - 5/20/2013, 2:45 PM
Please more Sigourney scenes of her possessed.
jonnytheshirt - 5/20/2013, 3:16 PM
Bill Murray's too old now, so's Dan. Leave them there with GB1 and GB2 wasn't all bad. If they do this new blood is needed, Bill's in his sixties and the same feeling just can't be carried off the energy needed for a show that would be aimed mainly at a family audience just isn't there in Bill anymore. With a great script and some fresher modern talent that can relate to kids today it can still be great.
BubblesShedAndBreakfast - 5/20/2013, 3:23 PM
I hope they make it without Murry and its a success! That way Murry will be begging for a part in Ghostbusters 4!!!!
