David Tennant And Billie Piper Back For DOCTOR WHO Anniversary Special

David Tennant And Billie Piper Back For DOCTOR WHO Anniversary Special

Huge casting announcements in the latest edition of Doctor Who Magazine, it's being said that David Tennant (who portrayed the 10th Doctor) and Billie Piper ('Rose Tyler') are appearing in the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special this fall..

Official Doctor Who Magazine states in it's latest issue that David Tennant, who portrayed the tenth Doctor for multiple years on the show, and Billie Piper (his doctor's companion) have indeed signed up to appear in Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary Special this coming fall. However, it doesn't say in what capacity these two will be appearing. Also being reported is that John Hurt, who recently has been cast in Brett Ratner's Hercules, will also be in the special. It's set to be 60 minutes long and will receive a limited cinema release this fall. Are you excited for this casting, and are you going to see the special in 3D during it's theatrical release?

Doctor Who returns tonight with 'The Bells Of Saint John'.

I'll believe it when I actually see it.
I could believe Tennant, but Piper too just doesnt seem Moffat's style.
SuperDude001 - 3/30/2013, 4:51 AM
Still...I guess it could happen. John Hurt cast seems a bit out of the blue though. And I would've thought they'd keep casting news as secret as possible.
Anyhow I'm excited for the 50th whatever happens (although Moffat hasn't written a superb episode since Series 5). Also glad to see other CBMers reporting on Who!
Still, Bells will be awesome today!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY, I'm so happy. Now, all that I need is some Captain Jack + River Song goodness!

This. Is. AWESOME!!!!!! 10th and 11th sharing the same screen! Does this mean 9th (Christopher Eccleston) might join in as well??! And may be the whole John Barroman thing is a ruse!

If we learn the Doctors greatest secret, I'll feel betrayed

9th, 10th and 11th?

That's gonna be monumental.

So excited for the anniversary.

When Rose returns too it's probably the clone Doctor
AC1 - 3/30/2013, 8:32 AM
I'm glad Tennant's returning, although I hope they don't fall into the trap of making the episode all about his Doctor. Matt Smith is still playing the current Doctor, so the focus should be on him.

Not too excited about Billie Piper returning though. Always found Rose to be an annoying character.
LMB10 - 3/30/2013, 8:35 AM

Don't expect 9th to be anywhere near this, Chris has made it pretty clear he wants nothing to do with DW anymore
mctrinket - 3/30/2013, 8:53 AM
Yeah, it's Rose and the close in the alternate dimension most likely.
CyberBishop - 3/30/2013, 8:57 AM
I just hope that Eccleson and McGann are in the story to some extent.. It would be nice to see McGann more as the Doctor over hearing his audio books...
STOOPUDR - 3/30/2013, 8:58 AM
I agree its Rose and the Clone, but should still be fun to see. Could be neat to see how they have changed since being left there. I want the Clone to be evil.
DaddyTuesday - 3/30/2013, 10:11 AM
60 minutes and it will have a limited release in the cinema? What's the point in that? At least give it the bare minimum of 90 minutes and put in in cinemas but 60 at cinema prices? Forget it. Oh and I was brought up on Dr Who but this current doctor sucks balls. Can't get behind him and found there was wayyyy to much focus on the companions. The whole River Song storyline I found boring, long winded and was enough to drive me away from the show. That said I will watch it, if Tennant is coming back. Him & Rose were perfectly matched and a joy to watch.
Explosiveninja5 - 3/30/2013, 10:16 AM
Seriously!!!!! I thought that was a rumour, this should be intresting

I think the Clone helps to offer perspective. Better then trying to figure all the time issues with a past version.
CherryBomb - 3/30/2013, 10:35 AM
Great news!

Billie Piper is so likeable, I love seeing her on screen and I especially loved her in Doctor Who.

Yeah, I immediately figured it'll be Rose and the Doctor-Donna Clone in the alternate dimension. Which is just fine with me! Should be fun. Still want to see the 11th Doctor meet Captain Jack though. Been too long waiting for that

Also, if it's going to have any kind of theatrical release, I hope it's longer than 60 minutes. At least do an epic, "End of Time" type of story that runs longer - but 3D Doctor Who does sound like it could be fun!

Anyway, onto waiting for the new episode that airs tonight here in the states...

now all we need is christopher eccleston and the modern doctors will meet
repulse93 - 3/30/2013, 11:21 AM
Haha! Called it! If the 10th Doctor showed up, of course it makes sense that it's the hand-clone.

And while I can understand some of the hate for Rose, it's nice to see her back. :)
Ramiel - 3/30/2013, 11:34 AM
10 Doctor, baby! Woohoo! It's also nice to see Rose return. She's my 2nd favorite companion.

Yeah Chris showed signs he doesnt really care, his choice I liked it him a litte bit.

The main thing is that 10 and 11 will meet.. And talk and be all asdfghjkl
AnungUnRama - 3/30/2013, 2:42 PM
for a half century anniversary 60 minutes is way too less. look what they did for ealrier anniversaries. I want an epic multi doctor story. All living ones at least. Wouldn't mind some other actors impersonating the dead ones and have their faces cgi'ed with the original ones.

What about a time war story. We can see the 8th to 9th cotro regen and see how he locked up Galifrey. That could make a worthy 50th anniversary.
JatevinM - 3/30/2013, 2:52 PM
We all know that Tennant will be playing the 10th Doctor's clone thats with Rose. I'm pretty sure Jack will pop up and I'd die if Donna and Martha popped in for a cameo scene. All of the old Doctors dont look like they did when they were the Doctor who they can only utilize them in certain capacities. As much as I'd love to see Amy and Rory as well it is still way too soon after their big departure for them to show up again.

Doctor Ten-nant owns my heart. . . .

Sad it's probably going to be the clone, but I'll take him any way I can.
JorEllinator - 3/31/2013, 2:21 AM
Bring back, Martha,Donna, Mickey, Amy, Rory... hell, even that female Doctor clone from that god-awful episode
Rose is the worst new companion, I hate how the Doctor Who team thinks everyone loves Rose.
MementoMori - 4/3/2013, 12:49 AM
Wow, Rose getting a lot of hate here at cbm. Why? Simply curious. I love Doctor Who, and have awaited the new episodes with the patience of a 5 year old even though I was heartbroken by Amy and Rory's send-off. Oh, and only 60 mins for the 50th? I demand longer! That said, I'm not sure our universe can handle the awesomeness of David Tennant and Matt Smith sharing the same screen, but I hope so.
MementoMori - 4/3/2013, 1:02 AM
Oh, I should have included this in my first post, kinda an open-ended thanks to the people who help make cbm.com what it is. Thanks for covering Doctor Who, just solidifies that this is the site for coolness (disregarding the trolls).
