Earth Is A Memory Worth Fighting For In The Official Trailer For OBLIVION

Universal Pictures have released this official trailer for the Joseph Kosinski-directed science fiction epic Oblivion, starring Tom Cruise as one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on an uninhabited Earth. Check it out...

Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete. Living and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

Oooooohhhhh.....another Tom Cruise movie.....yay...
(Notice the sarcasm of being excited)
TheRock234 - 12/8/2012, 7:01 PM
looks very bland to me this could have been a modern day 2001 or Moon just another lame action movie to me
BubblesShedAndBreakfast - 12/8/2012, 7:01 PM
Looks like it might be good if Tom Cruise wasn't in it. I only care about seeing Tom in a sequel of some sorts to Tropic Thunder.
CaptainAmerica31 - 12/8/2012, 7:02 PM
This looks kinda dumb honestly
CaptainAmerica31 - 12/8/2012, 7:02 PM
Ver bland
FightAs0ne - 12/8/2012, 7:03 PM
Damn this looks sweet.
Tom Cruise and Sci Fi just go sooo good together.
Jolt17 - 12/8/2012, 7:08 PM
Very nice. The awesome visuals should be expected, but the concept of the story is also pretty interesting. I kind of get that Source Code vibe in it, although I'm not really sure, either - coming from the director of Tron: Legacy, the story MIGHT fall short again, but nonetheless I'm firm I'll be able to enjoy it very much for the visuals. Here's to hoping it will be all around amazing, though.

WALL-E PREQUEL
KingPatel - 12/8/2012, 7:18 PM
Cruise is the man and this looks absolutely amazing, I can't wait!

I'm not a big fan of Tron: Legacy at all, but this looks really good. Loving the look of the film, the atmosphere, and of course, the visuals. The story sounds interesting, and some talented writers worked on the film, such as William Monahan and Michael Arndt. Hoping it's another great science fiction film.
Warcam - 12/8/2012, 7:44 PM
Sounds very Wall-E-ish to me.

@TheNerdicon what are you talking about? Calling it original and ground breaking doesn't mean they're calling it "THE BEST EVER".
I think it looks great, and Tom Cruise always gives great performances. Also I'm tired of how I constantly see comments from people saying that "why can't Hollywood make anything original?" and then we get a movie like this and suddenly it's shit and won't be as good as other original movies. It makes complete sense why studios remake films instead of making new films and it's because you people can't be satisfied and it's easier to remake a movie because most of the already established fan base will go see it.

I personally liked Tron: Legacy for what it is, so I believe I won't have much problem if this ends up being another mere visual treat, because I have faith in Kosinski on that aspect. However, I sure won't mind seeing Oblivion as something entirely better than that, either.
xRelentlessx - 12/8/2012, 8:24 PM
Tom Cruise needs to go away. You too, Brad Pitt.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 12/8/2012, 8:48 PM
I laughed when someone said that the story kind of resembled WALL-E
95 - 12/8/2012, 9:48 PM
I might see this. I'll keep my expectations low, though. Tron: Legacy started off with that giddy feeling of returning back to The Grid — it just seemed like it didn't have anywhere to take the story afterwards. Oh, and I thought of Wall•E when they mentioned "clean up crew", when Olga's character landed (Eve moving the story along into Act Two) & the circular appearance of the flying craft. And I'm not a big fan of Tom Cruise, but I don't dislike him. His moves are good and he looks promising here.
95 - 12/8/2012, 9:49 PM
I might
mgeoff88 - 12/8/2012, 10:02 PM
That actually looks very good, but I'm getting tired of Tom Cruise.

My love for Olga Kurylenko far outweighs me being tired of seeing Tom Cruise in everything though, so I'll see it.
CaptainAmerica31 - 12/8/2012, 10:39 PM
The fact that cruise is in it just makes it seem bland to me, nothing special here
ahhmynuts - 12/8/2012, 10:49 PM
joseph kosinski should direct the halo(video game) movie
bhorwith22 - 12/9/2012, 12:24 AM
"60 years ago, Earth was attacked. We won the war, but half the planet was destroyed."

Sound like it would have worked well as a sequel (60 years later) to Independence Day. LOL
Seejay - 12/9/2012, 1:15 AM

A lot can be said about Cruise. But he sure is passionate about his sci-fi. And they often end up good - probably because of just that.
Harris1 - 12/9/2012, 1:20 AM
Tom Cruise plus Sci Fi means I'm in.
NeoBaggins - 12/9/2012, 1:33 AM
Ah, yeah. The good ol ovary glider.
BatSlam - 12/9/2012, 2:27 AM
this looks great, I never understand why people are so down on Tom Cruise. I dont care what anybody believes in, thats the great part about being a free human being, you get to believe in what every you want. I have never witnessed Tom Cruise put any less that 100% into any role. I have never seen him just call in a performance. He has put way more good movies than bad movies out and even his bad movies he still shows up and gives that 100%, never has he just kind of called in his performance.
gannicus - 12/9/2012, 3:21 AM
yehhh tom cruise does ethan hunt in the future i will give this a miss.
CapA - 12/9/2012, 3:50 AM
Lol at the Cruise-hating ! But I'm more interested in Jack Reacher than Jack Harper right now.
toco89 - 12/9/2012, 4:15 AM
@gannicus

Ethan Hunt? As in the super spy? How the hell did you get that from this trailer?

The movie looks epic, Tom Cruise is a solid actor who really puts everything into his roles. That's how he's gotten this longevity in success.

The man does his job and he does it well. People appreciate that. When they're wondering what movie to watch, and they see Tom Cruise they know what they're getting... their money's worth. You can't beat that.

Unless you're Peter Jackson with LotR, or some kids movie.

TheSoulEater - 12/9/2012, 5:04 AM
I'm not seeing this movie.

*Morgan Freeman appears*

I'm seeing this movie
Christuffer - 12/9/2012, 5:10 AM
Tron Legacy was amazing.

This movie looks epic though, very excited. I don't know how you get bland from Tom Cruise. He's anything but bland; as a matter of fact, he's a great actor, and possibly batshit crazy in real life.
Matador - 12/9/2012, 6:21 AM
Yeah lets not wait till he gets to Mel "Loony" Gibson crazy to call him a genius & action star of somebody else's lifetime. Sure as HELL ain't mine.
Facade - 12/9/2012, 6:46 AM
Is he genetically modified or some kind of android? I don't know anything thing about this book, but it looks good to me. I love this kind of shit!
LexHairFight - 12/9/2012, 8:40 AM
There is a very distinct pattern to every movie Tom Cruise stars in - man has everything, loses everything and has to fight to win it all back.
fistofthenorthstar - 12/9/2012, 10:45 AM
you can't deny that Tom is an excellent action star. hell he's the movie star. this film's probably gonna be pretty bad-arse, and people need to stop hating on him. hating for what? his personal life?! get a hobby...
marvel72 - 12/9/2012, 10:53 AM
looks like it could be worth watching.
GnomeSauce - 12/9/2012, 3:57 PM
Interesting post-apocalyptic premise. At first I thought, from the description, that HE was a drone, an android. I think this would be better if his character were, and he played it, like Fassbender in Prometheus.
Optimist18 - 12/9/2012, 4:22 PM
Though it probably won't make any difference, I'd just like to point out to the haters that the days of original films being put on the mainstream film market more or less ended in the late 70's, when these risky ventures started losing money for the studios. As crappy a thought as it might be, money is a factor for the people financing films with a big budget. Whenever you put something original out there, there's no guarantee that it will make money, where as a proven concept is milked for all it's worth (remakes, sequels, prequels, rip-offs, etc.). Unless we go through another cultural Renaissance it's quite likely that films will continue to be formulaic, because they make money. If you don't like it, stay to your comic books.

That is all.
NeoBaggins - 12/9/2012, 4:47 PM
@Optimist18 Preach my brotha, preach!

We get some originals or at least new takes on a formula every now and again. Best movies I've watched recently were DRIVE and LAWLESS.
Logan5 - 12/9/2012, 5:19 PM
This looks so incredible that Tom Cruise doesn't even register. I grew up in a time when he was not the media "crosshair psychopath," so seeing him in film that looks great and he's not over the top.., yes please! He's an actor. Argue that? Yeah, this looks great and I cannot wait! M83 score [frick]as!
Logan5 - 12/9/2012, 5:20 PM
The Yankee cap is nothing more than Deckard's piano photographs.
