First Impressions Of MAD MAX: FURY ROAD; Plus New Synopsis

First Impressions Of MAD MAX: FURY ROAD; Plus New Synopsis

After nearly 3 years since the cameras rolled, George Miller's fourth Mad Max movie will be with us...this time next year. But Warner Bros. screened the film for the first time last night, and along with a new synopsis we have some first impressions.

The first impressions for Mad Max: Fury Road seem to be universally positive. The movie has been hailed as "The Road Warrior on steroids", and is apparently dominated by one big action-packed chase across the post apocalyptic wasteland. One reviewer said although it was weird not to have Mel Gibson in the title role, Tom Hardy did a fine job. Overall the general consensus is that this has been worth the wait, and we are "in for a treat". You can check out the new synopsis below, and read the first impressions in more detail HERE.

“MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is the fourth film of George Miller‘s Road Warrior/Mad Max franchise co-written and directed by Miller. The post-apocalyptic action film is set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and most everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life. Within this world of fire and blood exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order… There’s Max (played by TOM HARDY from The Dark Knight Rises), a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos. And… Furiosa (played by CHARLIZE THERON from Prometheus), a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.”

So is it a continuation of Beyond Thunderdrome or something inbetween taking place between the trilogy!?

Bring it on George Miller is still doing this so yeah count me in.I am suprised that Miller isn't quite the big name yet in Hollywood
MexicanSexyman - 5/1/2014, 5:54 AM

Tom Hardy: "you don't fear greatness, you welcome it. Your praise must be more severe."

Good to hear first impressions seem to be universally positive but after the disappointments of the Star Wars prequels and Prometheus even the fact that George Miller is doing this is not enough to make me have high hopes. We will see.

@yossarian, cool. I check the movies out. I saw a really cool looking box set for the Mad Max trilogy at best buy the other day, and should really get it. You're a Cop?
MexicanSexyman - 5/1/2014, 6:14 AM
@Rulk, that first poster is amazing.
Fun1gUy - 5/1/2014, 6:17 AM
im curious, and i hope it is good, cause then it would be worth the wait
RorMachine - 5/1/2014, 6:18 AM
I often wondered about the massive differences in setting/society etc between movies myself. I guess even though the character didn't seem to age that much, there must have been quite a few years between the three films.
MexicanSexyman - 5/1/2014, 6:20 AM
@yossarian, oh ok. That's cool that you're in the Army. I wanted to join but my mother wouldn't have it, so I'm doing the next best thing which is joining the police force eventually. I'm just getting college credit hours.
MexicanSexyman - 5/1/2014, 6:23 AM
@RorMachine, does it go from modern day (80s) society to a shit society, then even more shitier society?
Pasto - 5/1/2014, 6:25 AM
Yoss was in the army?

Rulk - 5/1/2014, 6:28 AM
@TheMexicanSuperman - Yeah.. from the good old days when posters were actually paintings... not photoshopped mashings. Definitely see the trilogy.. but The Road Warrior is the classic.

@ Yoss - It's my understanding that Mad Max is during a declining society pre nuclear war... then The Road Warrior takes place in a society in shambles, post nuclear war. And Beyond Thunderdome? Who cares.. that's just a mess lol
grif - 5/1/2014, 6:33 AM
all kinds of hilarity here. first of all. hardy is playing max. reg flag. i will never watch this movie. gibson or gtfo. second. therons name is furiosa. lmfao
Mysterion - 5/1/2014, 6:34 AM
I mean its been about 3 years since the production started and it has yet to be release, not even a trailer or there a reason why for the delay?
SpiderFraud - 5/1/2014, 6:37 AM
I would love Mel Gibson to come back, but that fool is way too old looking. This new Mad Max might really be great...dont trust these early impressions, though.
Swiftsword777 - 5/1/2014, 6:40 AM
cool I was losing hope for this film, I thought they were putting it off for so long because it was shit.
Dildonis - 5/1/2014, 6:48 AM
'on steroids' saying annoys the shit outta me.

anyway glad the feedback on this is positive, looking forward to seeing it
DaVinci31 - 5/1/2014, 6:54 AM
I'm just glad it doesn't sound (from these critics anyway) like most of the generic "action" bullsh*t that has been pouring out of Hollywood as of recently.

Even if it sucks, I hope it has some type of style to it.
DaVinci31 - 5/1/2014, 6:55 AM
Also can't wait to see the cars.
pepe - 5/1/2014, 7:00 AM
I miss Mel "Adolf" Gibson
InfiniteMonkey - 5/1/2014, 7:03 AM
Meh, the reason why Mad Max the first movie was such a hit, there was nothing like it ever before.

We've had tonnes of post apocalyptic shite since then. This will be moderate at best. They should have done something more original, then again,...its Hollywood.
ralfinader - 5/1/2014, 7:13 AM
It will be wierd having Mad Max not being played by a raging anti-semetic in his 60's or 70's....
Comedian03 - 5/1/2014, 7:14 AM
Huh, gotta admit, I had no idea this movie even started filming yet, let alone was actually finished lol
fettastic - 5/1/2014, 7:22 AM
The Road Warrior was one of the most amazing cinematic experiences of my young life. It came out in the magical year of 1981. I was 11 years old.

I was so sickened and horrified by the rape/murder scene and the guy getting his fingers chopped off. But that just added to the urgency of the film. The semi chase at the end reminded me of the Death Star fight a few years before in it's speed and intensity.

I actually had a friend when I was a teenager that was hoping we would have a nuclear war so he could live in that world! Yeah he was a [frick]ed up guy, but what I take from that is that it was such a palpable and believable world. George got shots nobody had ever conceived of before that made the whole experience visceral.

Yes we're all a bit disappointed Mel isn't returning, but he's off his [frick]ing nut now and would have doomed the production. I know Mel personally wanted Russell Crowe to take over, and that would have been an interesting take, but considering Tom Hardy's epic version of Bane, I'm a fan now and think he can do a great job.
