First Official Image From The DOCTOR WHO Season 8 Premiere, "Deep Breath"

Although we've seen a few set snaps and some pics of the new Doctor in costume, this scanned image from Entertainment Weekly is actually the first officially released pic from the season 8 premiere. See a nail-biting Peter Capaldi alongside Jenna Coleman after the jump.

doctor deep breath

The first episode of the new series is called "Deep Breath", and will be feature length. Doctor Who returns on BBC One in the UK on Saturday, August 23, and a US premiere on BBC America is also expected for that date.

I CANT WAIT!!!, the first episode is set in Victorian times with Vastra,Jenny and Strax, i am a BIG Modern Who fan,i havent seen much Classic Doctor Who,i have seen some and from what i have seen,The Fourth Doctor is my favorite Classic Doctor,i really liked all 3 Modern Doctors( i like John Hurt too but he isnt really an "official" Doctor) Ninth(Christopher Eccleston) was more dark due to him just coming from The Time War, The Tenth Doctor(David Tennant) was great too and The Eleventh Doctor(Matt Smith), he could be dark and angry but he was more childlike, he was fascinated with everything, he is my favorite Modern Doctor, i think Peter Capaldi is gonna rock it as The Twelfth Doctor!!!

Moffat told EW: “It’s a big introduction—he’s the new Doctor. There’s no point pretending that it’s not the most interesting, dynamic thing that you’ve got to sell in that first episode. It’s going to be about ‘What’s he like? How’s he different?’ I suppose it feels a bit like a character piece, but there’s plenty of action and nonsense and jeopardy, as there ever is in Doctor Who.”

While the showrunner is being tightlipped about Who’s 12-episode season, we do know it will culminate in a two-part finale directed by Rachel Talalay (Tank Girl) featuring the Doctor’s frequently encountered foes the Cybermen. Both the 50th-anniversary special and the Christmas episode left some fans a bit teary-eyed—so how will folks feel by the end of this run? “Like they want Doctor Who to come back very, very quickly,” says Moffat with a chuckle.

Peter Capaldi is an awesome actor. if he as the doctor is anything like he is in this video it might actually get me interested in this show

Woop! Thick of It.
Chewtoy - 7/10/2014, 11:32 AM
I've been watching him as the Cardinal Richelieu in the BBC's current "Three Musketeers" show. It's my first real exposure to him. He's good.
Gusto - 7/10/2014, 11:36 AM
McGee's ass is like a Tardis.

DannyRand1225 - 7/10/2014, 11:47 AM
apparently this doctor has more of an edge to him,is a lot fiercer and is kind of an adrenaline junkie
DeusExSponge - 7/10/2014, 11:50 AM
He better be dropping the f bomb every few episodes!
DannyRand1225 - 7/10/2014, 11:52 AM
there will be no F bombs being dropped cause Doctor Who is considered a family show...though that would be amazing
DeusExSponge - 7/10/2014, 11:53 AM
Curse you Kenway!!! Always ruining it for us Templars!!!

Ezio - I still need to catch up with the current batch, I'm WAAAAYYY behind as I'm still stuck on Brotherhood!
RexDartEskimoSpy - 7/10/2014, 12:04 PM
I've no doubt that Capaldi will be a fantastic Doctor, but I still can't get over how stupid his outfit looks. Like the Maître D' of a stage magic themed restaurant. "Is THIS your table?"
DannyRand1225 - 7/10/2014, 12:23 PM
DeusexSponge-oh ok, brotherhood is good imo, revelations is good too and kinda emotional, AC3 imo grows on u, ACIV:Black Flag is really good and i cant wait for Unity,as i said,i will personally never get tired of those games,i love the universe so much
MisterManley - 7/10/2014, 12:42 PM
Well at least Gusto recycles something.
kaijunexus - 7/10/2014, 1:14 PM
God dammit!

Every time I see a Doctor Who post, my brain sees Doctor Strange.

First official image from Doctor Strange?! HELLS YES!! Wait...Doctor who?
BlindJustice - 7/10/2014, 1:43 PM
@kaijunexus - That's ok. Every time I hear a conversation with the words doctor or doctors I immediately think of Doctor Who! I grew up watching Classic Doctor Who and the 4th Doctor is hands down my favorite. Tennant is probably my favorite modern Doctor, but I can't wait to see Peter's version. He's been a Doctor Who fan since he was a kid like me. He's gonna rock the TARDIS!

At least McGee has an ass. You're ass is just like table I'm sitting at: flat and full of wood.

PERTWEE is one of my least favorite doctors, I hate the hi kito and gadgets. He's not an action star he's the dr. Tom baker is good but if you knew what an ass he was behind the scenes I don't think you'd like him in personal life. Smith was a great modern dr. My favorite classic is a toss up I like all the drs for different reasons but TROUGHTON and MCCOY. Jamie and Ace were def 2 of my favorite companions
dellamorte1872 - 7/10/2014, 5:46 PM
Plus PERTWEE is predominantly earth centric (I.e UNIT) so his seasons are harder for me to get into.
dellamorte1872 - 7/10/2014, 5:48 PM
I told ya all and the velvet seals it in a sense. He will be reminiscent of PERTWEE just like SMITH was reminiscent of TROUGHTON
Tainted87 - 7/10/2014, 7:08 PM
I think a general aesthetic should be familiar, but so far, we've seen NOTHING to indicate how the 12th Doctor will be like any other.

HOWEVER.... if we were to go by appearance and scenarios....

In the preview image for the "Am I a good man?" teaser, you've got Clara looking uncharacteristically, how can I put this, child-like.
In short, she really reminds me of Peri, even though no, she's nothing like her, not really. A lot of "characterization" for both the classic and revival series can be interpreted as where the plot wants the companions to go.

Example: I really like the Fifth Doctor (I was surprised how much, too), and unfortunately, he's surrounded by a bunch of squabbling morons. Nyssa is alright, but Tegan and ADRIC (holy sh*t, Adric) really had to act stupid in order for the Doctor to appear more intelligent. Peri wasn't tremendously brainy either, but she was, at the very least, reasonable compared to Tegan's tantrums and Adric's general idiocy.

Catherine Tate and David Tennant had some of the best chemistry. Yeah, we all love Amy because she's f**king hot, and she's pretty smart too, but sometimes she AND Rory would act annoying just for the Doctor to appear unnerved. Donna was a comedic character who developed over the course of one season as she realized her value in the universe (and not just because of "Turn Left") and became someone the Doctor could have a real conversation with... unfortunately, that was snatched away.

I liked that they could be friends, without the romantic interest in each other, and you could tell the actors had a blast in their roles. I miss Donna. I don't miss Tennant so much, simply because he's had his time, he's become one of, if not THE most recognized Doctor, and yeah, it was enough to make him a bit overrated.

In that one "Time Crash" short, Ten is scripted to say that Five was his favorite, his inspiration... maybe because Moffat was a big fan. David Tennant has said that his inspiration, however, came from the Fourth Doctor.

You know, I've seen some from every Doctor except Three and Four.

Ugh at Raven... I prefer the darker look. I thought she was Dove at first haha.
