First Set Photos And Concept Art For M. Night Shyamalan's AFTER EARTH Starring Will Smith

Hit the jump to check out some cool concept art and new photos from the set of the M. Night Shyamalan-directed science fiction film After Earth, starring Will Smith...

M. Night Shyamalan made some really bad films in the last couple of years. His last good film was probably Signs in 2002. So, can he finally make something worth watching with a big upcoming science fiction film called After Earth (previously known as One Thousand A.E) starring Will Smith and his son, Jaden Smith? It's definitely a possibility. If you haven't heard about it yet, After Earth is described as a sci-fi film which tells the story of a father and son's journey through deserted Earth, after their spacecraft crashes on the planet thousand years in the future. Sounds pretty interesting. Hopefully it will be good.

Shyamalan has revealed some concept art and images from the set, and Will Smith also added new photos from the set on his official Facebook page. Check it out:

So, what do you think?

Isabelle Fuhrman and Zoë Kravitz also star in the film. After Earth is set to hit theatres on June 7, 2013.

I [frick]ing hate this guy so bad

When I first saw the last air bender trailer saying from the mind of m night shyamalan, and writer and director. This dude is a hack, a rip off. He was trying to say to the world he made the last air bender world and when you see the movie, he did try. Let's face it not a lot of people know avatar: the last air bender so he tried to get credit for it. Avatar the last air bender is such a good mytho that inspired from different culture(Chinese, Japanese and aboriginal) and what did we see in the live action flick???? None of that what made the show so good.

If you haven't watch the show go do so and get the 3 season, if you want a good story here it is, it picks up in season 2 and especially 3 the final showdown. Freaking amazing show that deserve to be a live action movie. A fantasy movie like no other, just get the right director who respects the show and you'll have an epic 3 part movie or even four part movie. This franchise can be the next Harry potter franchise. Great world and great story.

For m night shyalaman [frick] you, not even a good trailer and will smith well make me pay for me to watch this film. M night shyalaman a hack of director.

this is going to suck
rbfn04 - 2/8/2012, 8:31 PM
@MrEko myself, I still have episodes where I dream of a descent "I am Legend". Hope they get it right. M. seems lost in his plot twistedness and Will, well, he can be hit or miss with his choices...

Rodimus9 - 2/8/2012, 8:31 PM
Soooo, planet of the apes, meets I am legend, meets M. Night shammy shammy land?

mattattack - 2/8/2012, 8:32 PM
Yeah.. this will be bad.
mattattack - 2/8/2012, 8:33 PM
Also his last good movie was THE VILLAGE. That movie is amazing.
AlexDeLarge87 - 2/8/2012, 8:34 PM
interesting story but will it be good? Only time will show.
TayDee - 2/8/2012, 8:41 PM
the village was terrible
StuckInPanels - 2/8/2012, 8:41 PM
I'm already predicting the ending twist....its not the future, but the past. He somehow traveled BACK in time to primitive Earth
FriendlyNeighborhoodSpidey - 2/8/2012, 8:42 PM
I love Will Smith. He's such a great actor. Definitely up there with guys like Robert Downey Jr. or Depp. Downey's my favorite though, but Smith's a close second.

How come he don't want me, man? :(

Too many people go into M.Night.S's movies with their guard up after The Sixth Sense and The Village, all they do is spend most of the film trying to pre-empt the twist instead of enjoying the movie and then get cynical about it. The guy is a true talent, his films run at their own pace i.e not popcorn fast food speed for audiences who have no attention span. He's never gonna be appreciated by the mainstream because of that and he's never gonna be loved by the critics since he stupidly picked a fight with them by making Lady in the Water. His desperate attempt to win back favour for the mainstream failed with Last Airbender which was crap!

I'm glad he's gone back to doing what he does best, his own movies and hopefully in his own style. This guy will eventually have his own fanbase like Woody Allen. Quality actors will always want to work with him because they don't care about cerebrally challenged audiences and critics!

M. Night Shyalaman provokes some bitter feelings in people, but he has made some great movies like the Sixth Sense. He often comes very close to making good films, but then pisses us off. The Last Airbender looked cool, so props for that (btw, my kids loved it). I find his movies interesting to watch, even if I do not like them in the end, so I have faith in this one.
DZ123 - 2/8/2012, 8:56 PM
Is that grey beard on Will Smith natural or dyed?
Rodimus9 - 2/8/2012, 8:59 PM
Ceejay@ did you ever watch Lady In The Water? That movie was f*cking horrible. The Last Airbender? I watched in on in demand and stopped it 20 minutes in and ate the $5.

Sixth Sense, signs, the village and unbreakable were the only ones I thought were decent. Everything else he's done has been shit.
ZombieOverEasy - 2/8/2012, 9:01 PM

Finds out there was no Earth the whole time. What a Tweeeest!
Rodimus9 - 2/8/2012, 9:06 PM
Plot twist: Will Smiths character is imagining the whole thing. He lost all sense of reality when his son died and is locked up in an asylum. Duh duh duhhhhh!
BlairCo - 2/8/2012, 9:16 PM
Well, Shamalamadingdong didn't write it.

TWIST: The planet they're on isn't Earth.
avengingson - 2/8/2012, 9:17 PM
Sucks for M. Night... Everything has to have the most mind-blowing plot twist ever or it "sucks." Gotta be tough...
RyanLantern77 - 2/8/2012, 9:23 PM
[frick] Will Smith... DJ Jazzy Jeff is cool though
bakongo - 2/8/2012, 9:43 PM
We already know the end without watching it.

I hate Shamelan, his movies are the same.
TheZoan - 2/8/2012, 10:01 PM
His only god movies thus far: the 6th sense & unbreakable. The rest were poo poo. He's used up all his good ideas. Maybe he can make this a good movie. Dont try to be mystical or deep, just deliver.
TheZoan - 2/8/2012, 10:04 PM
*good movies*
Ace101 - 2/8/2012, 10:11 PM
I [frick]in love Will Smith but i [frick]in hate M shtilan because of what he did to the last Airbender...[frick]ing can also apply every swear word from every language and it still wouldnt be enough.

i will watch it at the cinema a week or 2 after its release if the reviews are good, if not then ill jus dl it, just because its got will smith in it.

i wish i could kick the guy in the nuts..haha its actually funny cause his kids were actually fans of the show, i would love, LOVE to know what they thought of their dads piece of sht film.
maxer - 2/8/2012, 10:14 PM
Shyamadingdong gonna ruin this..
MiracleMe - 2/8/2012, 10:21 PM
Shamalamdamaramawhatever's last good film was 'Unbreakable'. Not everybody's cup of tea, I know, but its one of the best directed superhero movies ever! Shamalamagoddama peaked there and it's been downhill ever since. Hopefully there's at least one more good film in him.
Tainted87 - 2/8/2012, 11:10 PM
It's pretty silly to intentionally misspell someone's name and pretend like it's too hard to spell... when the title of the freaking article (which appears at the very top of this window) has his name right there.

I'm not quick to throw the word out there, but to perform a bandwagon action such as that on impulse brands you a hater in my book.

Hater being someone who will at no point give something or someone the benefit of the doubt; being someone who will troll and target a specific person or material to satisfy their impulsiveness - someone who just doesn't use their brain and lacks self control.

I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I do enjoy a lot of his movies. I feel they lack the stylized commercial feel that most films can't help but feature, to its credit, and through his work you can tell he clearly enjoys what he does. His stories are extremely family-oriented (not to be confused with kid-friendly), which I appreciate considering the average blockbuster or head-turning indie will usually feature a couple or a wannabe couple in their story, but it is rare to see a family with depth operating in a capacity larger than being mentioned or briefly seen.

Signs: the main character is a former priest, father of two children, a widower, and has his brother living on his farm. Everyone has a role to play in this family.
The Village: a group of families maintain their extremely small eponymous village, where everyone knows each other, looks after each other, and share duties. They are connected.

I didn't like The Last Airbender, I don't think anyone did. It forgot itself. He truly dropped the ball there, I'm not sure what his motivation is, and I'm not sure I want to know.

Devil was pretty good. He didn't direct it, but it is his story, and you can recognize his signature elements.

BTW, I have never gone to see a single Shyamalan film anticipating the "twist". That interview has been panned and parodied too many times, and of course, as soon as something is made fun of by South Park, the masses have to make fun of it.

All writers have their own signature technique, and most have plot twists. Have we never heard of Stephen King? Maybe because he's one of my favorite authors I can push that out there easily. How about some famous comic book writers? Alan Moore has a mind-screw waiting at the end of nearly all of his stories, some larger than others. Jeph Loeb (I know you guys can't forgive him for what he did to the Ultimate universe, but he's done GREAT work with Batman) just as well will have some pretty shocking endings with clues planted from the very beginning.

Try not to hate too much, you'll get lines in your faces.

Here here!!!!

M.Night's career didn't really start until The Sixth Sense. The Last Airbender & The Happening were garbage...ADMITTEDLY. He then delivered Signs, Unbreakable, & The Village. Lady in the Water was never meant for general audiences but was billed that way by the studio. It was a children's story he created for his daughter. The other four were ALL solid films...why rag on the guy? 2 bad films and the man is a leper, lol.

M.Night + Will Smith = WIN in my book! I'll take a chance even though i've never walked out of a movie as mad as i was when i walked out of The Happening. Everyone makes mistakes, but he's the director of 2 of my FAVORITE films (Unbreakable & The Sixth Sense)...he gets at least one more chance as far as i'm concerned.

Sign me up.
lightningfilms - 2/8/2012, 11:32 PM
the village SUCKED!!! his only good movies are, "the 6th sense", "Unbreakable", and "signs"... idk if Will Smith can even save him. but i will wait till the trailer to judge
tumbler - 2/8/2012, 11:40 PM
I trust In Will Smith... He is one of the best actors ever...
