First Still From ENDER'S GAME Featuring Harrison Ford And Asa Butterfield

The first official still from the upcoming film adaptation of the classic sci-fi novel (directed by X-Men Origins: Wolverine's Gavin Hood) has been released, featuring stars Asa Butterfield and Harrison Ford. Hit the jump to check it out.

In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.

Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distiguising himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military's next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he's trained by Mazer Rackham, himself, to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.

Ender's Game is set to hit theaters November 1st, 2013.

The way it looks, it's like Hunger Games meets... Meets nothing. Not really excited for the moment.
woodsy100 - 12/5/2012, 6:45 AM
Mixed dorms - nice!
InfiniteMonkey - 12/5/2012, 6:46 AM
This is going to be cool.
I just want to see Harrison Fords iteration on screen of Col. Graff.
mumbz - 12/5/2012, 6:55 AM
sounds lame, the names are lame, its goin to have to be a gracious "meh" for me thanks but no thanks
BIGBMH - 12/5/2012, 6:57 AM
I didn't even know Ford was in this. Quite curious to see how this turns out.
mattboesch8907 - 12/5/2012, 6:58 AM
i read this book my freshmen year in high school. i don't remember anything about it.
GodzillaKart - 12/5/2012, 7:01 AM
One of the best sci-fi books ever written.
BackwardGalaxy - 12/5/2012, 7:02 AM
Who's the jailbait?
sicknimon - 12/5/2012, 7:05 AM
Yep, anybody who compares this to another movie or trashes it as some B storyline is in for a suprsie. This whole series of books was fantastic! Speaker for the Dead! Xenocide! Bring it on!
Maximillion - 12/5/2012, 7:12 AM
Another child sacrifice movie based on a book...meh!! Harrison for looks good :)
gambgel - 12/5/2012, 7:21 AM
havent read the sinopsis, but yeah, it looks a bit like Hunger Games.
plasticman - 12/5/2012, 7:28 AM
@BackwardGalaxy- Uh, that's Harrison Ford. He's kind of a big deal and slightly too old to be considered jail bait. But I agree with you, he is rather handsome. I think that helped him to get a few of his previous roles.
MrBlueSky - 12/5/2012, 7:30 AM
Read this book over the summer. I hope the adaptation is good.

*que l0rdleg0las being an asshole about this adaptation*
mr2324jgf - 12/5/2012, 8:17 AM
shit movie
NostalgicYouth - 12/5/2012, 8:40 AM
Why do I have a feeling like their making it like the Hunger Games?
ahhmynuts - 12/5/2012, 8:42 AM
@woodsy lmao
Lazyfan - 12/5/2012, 8:47 AM
Probably one of the best books I have picked up. I cannot wait to see this movie in action. I want to see the game they play against each other practically flying laser tag at battle school. An hopefully they show him leading the battle an defeating the formics.
l0rdleg0las - 12/5/2012, 8:51 AM
I just think this is going to suck. It's going to ruin the books for me with a family friendly adventure story. I just keep thinking, Spy Kids in space
l0rdleg0las - 12/5/2012, 8:59 AM

Sorry if my views piss you off, but I just feel too many changes were made from the source material. And I have very little faith that the studio will put out a movie with the brutality from the book. I just think the studio will sacrifice the story the fans of the book loved in efforts to make the story more broadly appealing to all demographics and it winds up a family movie more than a great sci-fi.

I love the book and just dislike when studios screw up the adaptations. What is so asshole about that?
yourdaddy - 12/5/2012, 9:15 AM

It says "ENDER's GAME" in capital letters.
MrBlueSky - 12/5/2012, 9:27 AM
@l0rdleg0las The movie comes out in a year, and you're already judging it?

And also, you piss me off in general. You're rude, you never have anything nice to say, you're always full of negativity, and you bitch about the same [frick]ing things over and over again (e.g. Kiera Knightley, Zoe Saldana, Olivia Wilde, and Patrick Wilson being in fan casts, ScarJo as Black Widow).
l0rdleg0las - 12/5/2012, 9:40 AM

You don't like it don't read it.

Everyone on this board has opinions that are theirs and that they won't change for the talking heads like you, because those views might not be popular.

And personally I take it as compliment that my views have so ingrained themselves in your mind that I am basically living rent free in your cerebellum; because truthfully until you called me out your postings have been so unremarkable and unnoticed that I didn't even know who you were.

Have a good day, internet tough guy.
SotNatt - 12/5/2012, 9:42 AM
I just wish Orson Scott Card wasn't such a homophobic racist. Other than that, I am really looking forward to wanting to see this film but not seeing it on principle.
Mysterion - 12/5/2012, 10:31 AM

you lost me at "directed by X-Men Origins: Wolverine's Gavin Hood"
caveman - 12/5/2012, 10:46 AM
@SuspenseSmith In1990, Card called for laws that ban gay sex to "remain on the books... to be used when necessary to send a clear message that those who flagrantly violate society's regulation of sexual behavior cannot be permitted to remain as acceptable, equal citizens within that society." He has since claimed a change in his overly-radical view, but this is where the criticism comes from.
DoIlookLIkeIGiveAFuk - 12/5/2012, 11:44 AM
Blah blah blah never heard of this until today never heard of thanos until avengers came out so how about these studios stop making movies about stuff I yes I never heard about instead make a damn halo movie reboot the guyver that's long overdue damn it damn it DAMN ITTTTTTTTTTTTT curse you
PersonaPostOvo - 12/5/2012, 11:49 AM
As much as I have been waiting for the book series to be adapted into a feature length live action film I am eager to see a Halo movie.
Fogs - 12/5/2012, 12:04 PM
Ford for Magneto!
GrayMatter - 12/5/2012, 12:52 PM
Yeah, I really hope that they don't bastardize this movie too much. But with Gavin Hood at the helm, I'm not holding my breath.

@DoIlookLIkeIGiveA[frick] - Not trying to be a dick here, but I'm pretty sure a lot more people have heard of Ender's Game than have heard of Guyver.

Though the Halo movie would be good. Hopefully the Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell movies are good/make money and then studios see that video game adaptations don't have to suck and can make more money if they just put in a little effort
OcciferPing - 12/5/2012, 5:55 PM
As soon as you said Gavin Hood, I lost all hope for this movie...
SotNatt - 12/5/2012, 6:19 PM

"But he sees homosexuality as a sin, just as he sees premarital sex as a sin, drinking, drugs, murder, theft, coveting, etc..."

And just as he is free to believe these things, I am free to say that, on principle, I will not be seeing an adaptation of his works due to those beliefs he holds that would suggest an intolerance to OTHERS, for things that cannot be controlled, not acts or habits.

Freedom of belief and opinion goes both ways.
ComradeGrey - 12/6/2012, 7:36 AM

Was excited.
Saw Gavin Hood's name.
This will be worse than Watchmen.
