How Was GODZILLA's Roar Created?

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have released a new "Behind The Roar" featurette that explains how Godzilla's roar was created. Hit the jump to check it out.

In Summer 2014, the world’s most revered monster is reborn as Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures unleash the epic action adventure “Godzilla.” From visionary new director Gareth Edwards (“Monsters”) comes a powerful story of human courage and reconciliation in the face of titanic forces of nature, when the awe-inspiring Godzilla rises to restore balance as humanity stands defenseless.

Gareth Edwards directs “Godzilla,” which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kick-Ass”), Oscar® nominee Ken Watanabe (“The Last Samurai,” “Inception”), Elizabeth Olsen (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”), Oscar® winner Juliette Binoche (“The English Patient,” “Cosmopolis”), and Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”), with Oscar® nominee David Strathairn (“Good Night, and Good Luck.,” “The Bourne Legacy”) and Bryan Cranston (“Argo,” TV’s “Breaking Bad”).

GODZILLA will stomp into theaters May 16, 2014.

Ramiel - 5/21/2014, 12:52 PM
The roar is awesome, but it kind of drags a lil, but it ends on a great note. I just wish the movie didn't disappoint me like it did.
blackandyellow - 5/21/2014, 12:55 PM
Is this movie worth seeing?
ThedamnBatman - 5/21/2014, 1:08 PM
I also like to rub things and make noise
marvel72 - 5/21/2014, 1:09 PM
@ blackandyellow

it was my most anticipated movie of the year, however when i heard godzilla wasn't in it much i lowered my expectations.

i believe i enjoyed it more by doing so,very good movie 4/5.
ThedamnBatman - 5/21/2014, 1:09 PM
@B and Y, definitelly woth it imo bro, just don't excpect non stop godzilla action, then you'll enjoy it, especially the end
BlindJustice - 5/21/2014, 1:11 PM
@blackandyellow - Yes, but it helps to be a fan of Godzilla. My kids, who have grown up on the classic Godzilla movies, like I did really enjoyed it.

All reptiles look up to him in more ways than just in a literal sense...

Planning on going Sunday to IMAX. But can't. Why? Because someone decided xmen and blended deserved IMAX releases. One week into it's release and it's gone now. What the flip?!
ThedamnBatman - 5/21/2014, 1:27 PM
lmao @blindjustice
JayTopStix - 5/21/2014, 1:32 PM
I really though this movie was awful
blackandyellow - 5/21/2014, 1:34 PM
Thanks marvel72, blindjustice and axe. I'm not really a Godzilla fan but I guess I'll check it out.
batz11 - 5/21/2014, 1:37 PM
I was extremely disappointed in it B&Y, and I'm super easy to please, movie-wise, that is...
Areo - 5/21/2014, 1:43 PM
The new roar is very similar to the sound McGee makes after consuming a 12 pack of Stroh's and a can of Campbell's pork and beans...except it comes out of both ends simultaneously.
baszs - 5/21/2014, 1:54 PM
I saw it today and i liked it very much.. Don't expect brawling like pacific Rim, but this brings more story and mystery with it what i very much liked through out the whole film. And the Visuals are awesome.

I liked the fighting and the direction they were trying to go...but much of the execution was all wrong. It was almost like a Star Wars prequel: the visuals were fantastic and extremely memorable, but all the wrong decisions were made for acting and this movie, unfortunately, relied too much on that.

Also, they claimed this 2014 Godzilla would evoke the 1954 original, when it was really more like one of the movies from the 1970s or the 1990s series, where the humans were used to explain where some new monster came from and how to defeat it, before Godzilla shows up in the third act to save humanity. Kind of false advertising but I enjoyed it as a Godzilla fan.

Disappointing with a few good qualities.

Nothing compares to the original but I love this new roar. Especially how it drags on onwards the end.
Berserker187 - 5/21/2014, 7:51 PM
Great Flick must see if you havent seen it.
loki668 - 5/21/2014, 11:00 PM
They created the roar by stepping on Kim Kardashian's corns.
AsianVersionOfET - 5/21/2014, 11:44 PM
Seeing this in IMAX was quite cool. Dat roar...
B4TM4N - 5/22/2014, 3:07 AM
What a SH.I.T MOVIE. I cannot believe they made this movie like that. Godzilla is only in it for FEW MINUTES and only in the BACK DROPS. The movie only follows the humans and how they dodge the debris of falling buildings left distracted by the monsters. And the worst thing is you only see thr monsters at night so you can just about see them so 3d is pointless. Do not waste your time wait till its on sky or something. And like everyone i was so pumped to see this movie. Guys seriously save your money for X men. Godzilla qas awesome even the roar but just wanted more Godzilla.
