International DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Poster Adds Floating Heads

Remember that awesome DOTPOTA poster from earlier on? Well this Spanish version just made it even more awesome by adding the giant, floating heads of Caesar (Andy Sekis) and Malcolm (Jason Clarke). Okay, not really -- but take a look after the jump for a giggle anyway.

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In), from a screenplay written by Mark Bomback, Scott Z. Burns, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. The cast includes: Andy Serkis (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey), Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Public Enemies, The Great Gatsby), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises, The Harry Potter film series), Keri Russell (The Americans, Mission Impossible III), Toby Kebbell (The Prince of Persia, Wrath of the Titans, Rock N Rolla), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In, ParaNorman), Enrique Murciano (Traffic, Black Hawk Down), Kirk Acevedo (The Thin Red Line) and Judy Greer (The Descendants, Three Kings, 13 Going on 30). The film hits theaters July 11, 2014

That looks terrible
Abary - 6/5/2014, 3:52 PM
I hate floating head posters almost as much as I hate rice pudding.
Bekss - 6/5/2014, 3:52 PM
Ceasar looks good, the other guy not so much
SauronsBANE - 6/5/2014, 3:54 PM
Haha, the marketing department would somehow find a way to ruin a fantastic image for their poster. Why is Caesar faded and blurred, but Clarke is painfully photoshopped to look as close to the camera as possible, as if his disembodied head is about to jump out of the picture? This is just...weird.

Mashpataters - 6/5/2014, 4:02 PM
photoshop nightmare, why wasn't the version of this poster without the floating heads good enough, it looked badass.
SKetCH - 6/5/2014, 4:07 PM
I call fake... why wouldn't dude's face be blended just the same??
marvel72 - 6/5/2014, 4:08 PM
i thought you actually meant floating heads as in floating in the water.
ManofSteel23 - 6/5/2014, 4:10 PM
all this needs is shoulders for the dude and for it to be faded out like ceasar, then its alright
Bread - 6/5/2014, 4:11 PM
The bridge is closer in this one.
Pedrito - 6/5/2014, 4:12 PM
That Spanish title doesn't ring very well. Sounds a bit awkward.

Oh dear god, it's even worse than I imagined.
staypuffed - 6/5/2014, 4:29 PM
Such an awkward way to ruin a fantastic poster.
Super12 - 6/5/2014, 4:30 PM
Uh-oh. Someone at 20th century forgot to lock their ipad when they left their desk. That head looks terrible!
DeusExSponge - 6/5/2014, 4:30 PM
Wow this looks really bad... Like an amateur photoshop!

Why ruin such an amazing poster by adding unnecessary floating heads?!

That Spanish title doesn't ring very well. Sounds a bit awkward.

And how else would you have translated it?

I maybe would've dropped the "el", but there's not exactly a whole lot to work with.
sansClaymore - 6/5/2014, 4:56 PM
why the hell do they insist on calling it an "International poster/Trailer"?

its clearly a spanish language.

i do believe the japanese and the nigerian speaking peoples of the world are not.......

bahhhh whatever you know what i mean.

just call it the spanish language poster
sansClaymore - 6/5/2014, 4:58 PM
lol thats not mathew mconaughey
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 6/5/2014, 4:59 PM
So lame lol
A2ron - 6/5/2014, 5:06 PM
It's kind of a bad thing that Photoshop was invented, without it there wouldn't be any shitty posters.
SuperCat - 6/5/2014, 5:28 PM
Bad photoshop. Not diggin' it.
Pedrito - 6/5/2014, 5:59 PM
I would've used a less literal translation. "El amanecer" is such a peaceful noun, while "dawn" has an ominous side to it.

Or to keep it as close as possible, I would drop the "el", as you said, and replace "del" with "en el": Amenacer en el planeta de los simios.

Which can be understood as both a noun and a verb an gives you a more "oh shit!" feeling. Like one day you woke up and bang! apes took over.
Floke - 6/5/2014, 6:02 PM
Cloudy with a chance of big heads.
soforizo - 6/5/2014, 7:19 PM

I agree the Spanish version don't carry the same feeling. It's a common issue, sometimes titles don't translate all that well from one language to another. It's not an easy title to work with.
skippyskywalker - 6/5/2014, 11:08 PM
Frankly one of the worst posters I've ever seen in my entire life. WTF is wrong with Fox's marketing dept? The US version of the poster was just fine and they had to utterly ruin it with the (horribly Photoshopped) floating heads.
AsianVersionOfET - 6/6/2014, 8:51 AM
@NeoBaggins, Hahahaha!
case - 6/7/2014, 2:00 AM
Average. I thought Americans were supposed to be the non-discerning ones, not us internationals.

Jason Clarke is awesome. Glad he's in this.
