J.J Abrams Talks MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5, The Finale Of FRINGE And Daniel Craft's Death

Star Trek Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams talks here about the current status of the fifth instalment of Mission Impossible, the "satisfying" finale of Fringe and even makes a brief statement on the sad death of the fan whose dying wish was to see the new Star Trek movie.

Talking at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour yesterday, Star Trek Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams was quizzed on the current progress in the development of the next instalment in the Mission Impossible franchise after the success of Brad Bird's critically acclaimed Ghost Protocol back in 2011. "We’re working right now on getting a writer," he revealed. "We’re a minute away from being able to discuss that. We have a pretty cool general idea for where this thing is going to go. Tom [Cruise] and Bryan Burk and I couldn’t be more excited about it." As for whether or not we will see the return of any familiar faces other than Cruise (such as Jeremy Renner's 'William Brandt'), Abrams remained coy, but did promise that the film will be a spectacle.

Moving on to the small screen, the director revealed that while he has yet to watch the finale of Fringe, he's confident that those who have stuck with the beloved series for five seasons won't be disappointed. "I have not seen it. But, the cut has just come in, apparently. I could go watch it right now. If it’s not satisfying, I don’t know what satisfying is. Yes, I think it will be satisfying." Finally, talk turned to a far more sombre subject as Abrams was asked to comment on the death of Daniel Craft; the Stare Trek fan whose dying wish was made a reality by the director. "I’d rather not comment on that, if that’s okay. But, it was an honor to be asked. I’d rather not talk about it because it feels insensitive, but for that to have been a request was unbelievably touching."

I'm a huge fan of Stare Trek.

Seriously, if the power users are going to continually hog the front page, they should put some effort into [frick]ing proofreading.

I respect that he's not commenting on Daniels death. Shows he respects the guy and not using his death to promote the movie or himself.

@Farkosaurus: Be careful correcting the writers on this site. You may hurt their feelings and get banned from the site.

Personally, I would welcome a correction if I made a typo...but then again I am confident enough in myself to recognize when I made a mistake.

Tread lightly.

Now Get to Work!

Ghost Protocol was great but I don't think there's any need for Renner to return. I'd rather see Cruise make a few more then they reboot it instead of having Renner take over. He's a solid actor but he's just not in the same league as guys like Cruise and Damon.

Also, Fringe is one of the best sci-fi shows of all time.

Damn...JJ just got about 500 karma points on that one..what a class act. I hope im not the only one that will give his projects some extra attention now that we see the actual guy and not the presented Hollywood package. To basically bring Fanboys to life was beyond classy...and not to comment on it now just exponentially adds to that.

Wish they asked him to do a Green Lantern movie lol

Fringe FTW. One of the best shows ever. You will be missed. I'm looking forward to Friday more than All Good Things "TNG" or the lackluster Seinfeld and Friends finales. And we still have the awesome two hour finale next week. Best and saddest January ever. I can't wait to see what's next. No not you Revolution, just go away

JJ is the definition of class, he was given the opportunity to pat himself on the back for an already kind deed but instead chose to respectfully back away.

Can't believe Fringe is nearly over. Anyone who says its crap surely hasnt watched it. Be great to see what the cast do next, eg. Anna Torv for Ms/Captain Marvel!

at Killersloth 'eg. Anna Torv for Ms/Captain Marvel!" I SECOND THAT!
phoenixforce9 - 1/7/2013, 9:22 PM
I think Ana Torv is perfect for Captain Marvel!

That was really respectful of J.J. Abrams to handle the question like that.

He really did an amazing thing with making the screening happen.

Fringe is incredible. @killersloth Anna Torv would rock as Ms Marvel
