Director Colin Treverrow Confirms Recent JURASSIC WORLD Spoilers

Director Colin Treverrow Confirms Recent JURASSIC WORLD Spoilers

A couple weeks ago, JoBlo posted some rumors about Jurassic World that had Jurassic Park fans alarmed, and now in a surprise move director Colin Treverrow has confirmed to Slash Film that those rumors are true. Check it out.

Two weeks ago, a source for JoBlo provided a plethora of Jurassic World details regarding the new park, a new DNA-spliced dino (T-Rex/raptor/snake/cuttlefish) and Chris Pratt's training "good" dinosaurs. Up until now, this report was regarded as a mere rumor, but director Colin Treverrow has decided to address the rumors in an in-depth interview with Normally, we could expect denials with spoilers of this magnitude but Treverrow has decided to confirm most of the information JoBlo posted. That's refreshing!

Will there be crossbred dinosaurs or new species created for the movie?

We were hoping audiences could discover this on their own, but yes, there will be one new dinosaur created by the park’s geneticists. The gaps in her sequence were filled with DNA from other species, much like the genome in the first film was completed with frog DNA. This creation exists to fulfill a corporate mandate—they want something bigger, louder, with more teeth. And that’s what they get.

I know the idea of a modified dinosaur put a lot of fans on red alert, and I understand it. But we aren’t doing anything here that Crichton didn’t suggest in his novels. This animal is not a mutant freak. It doesn’t have a snake’s head or octopus tentacles. It’s a dinosaur, created in the same way the others were, but now the genetics have gone to the next level. For me, it’s a natural evolution of the technology introduced in the first film. Maybe it sounds crazy, but most of my favorite movies sound crazy when you describe them in a single sentence.

What are the relationships between the main characters and the dinosaurs? Are there “good guy” and “bad guy” dinosaurs in the movie?

There’s no such thing as good or bad dinosaurs. There are predators and prey. The T-Rex in Jurassic Park took human lives, and saved them. No one interpreted her as good or bad. This film is about our relationship with animals, how we react to the threat they pose to our dominance on earth as a species. We hunt them, we cage them in zoos, we admire them from afar and we try to assert control over them. Chris Pratt’s character is doing behavioral research on the raptors. They aren’t trained, they can’t do tricks. He’s just trying to figure out the limits of the relationship between these highly intelligent creatures and human beings. If people don’t think there’s potential in those ideas, maybe they won’t like this movie. But I ask them to give it a chance.

Jurassic World is being directed by Colin Trevorrow, from a screenplay written by Trevorrow and Derek Connolly. The story is set 22 years after the events of the first film. The cast includes: Chris Pratt ("Guardians of the Galaxy"), Irrfan Khan ("The Amazing Spider-Man"), Vincent D’Onofrio ("Men In Black"), Bryce Dallas Howard ("Spider-Man 3"), Ty Simpkins ("Iron Man 3"), Judy Greer ("Two And A Half Men"), Katie McGrath ("Dracula"), Lauren Lapkus ("Orange is the New Black") and Nick Robinson ("The Kings Of Summer").

Jurassic World stomps into theaters June 12th, 2015.

It DOES sound utterly crazy and preposterous...but from everything else the Trevorrow has said (how it'll be more or less returning to its roots and being more like the first Jurassic Park, etc) and with Chris Pratt as the lead, it COULD be good. I'm not fully sold on how necessary another sequel is, but no choice but to wait for a trailer. PLEASE be good!
Nick56 - 5/28/2014, 4:22 PM
It could work, just depends on how its handled..
PsychoticSpaceRaccoon - 5/28/2014, 4:22 PM
Even though my boy Chris Pratt is in this, I hope JW fails miserably. Do studios really never learn from past mistakes? Like...never?
Eustace - 5/28/2014, 4:28 PM
Look at Sony with The Amazing Spider-Man movies...
SonOfOdor - 5/28/2014, 4:41 PM
What is so crazy sounding about what he said? Genuine question
Hellboy6666 - 5/28/2014, 4:45 PM
Psychoticspaceracoon: Stick your cynicism in you butt where you put your crayons.
Y'all need to be more positive and just enjoy these movies. Jesus or just go make your own [frick]ing movies. Bitches.
Hellboy6666 - 5/28/2014, 4:46 PM
Also this sounds awesome.
Neek2086 - 5/28/2014, 4:48 PM

Absolutely nothing.. People just wanna complain
TheSouthlander - 5/28/2014, 4:48 PM
If anyone has ever read Crichton's The Lost World they would understand the crossbreed comment. There is a dinosaur in TLW that was crossbreed and encountered by the group.
unknownguy - 5/28/2014, 4:50 PM
Rehashed garbage. What's to explore vs the original? Nothing.
jaysin420 - 5/28/2014, 4:51 PM's basically Rise of the Planet of the Dinosaurs?
SaxoWolf - 5/28/2014, 4:52 PM
I just want to hear this on the big screen..

RyanTcone - 5/28/2014, 4:58 PM
I'm glad he clarified his comments in regards to the "raptor training". As much as I'd love to see a real life adaptation of "Dino Riders" I was kind of bummed when I read the teaser, but the fact he's working with them in more of an observational/studying type capacity? Sounds to me like he's doing what Alan Grant did in the first film, only with real live subjects.

As far as the cross breeding? It was in the novels, 99% of you people get mad at Marvel/DC when DON'T use their source material and when they finally listen you guys aren't ok? There's just no pleasing some people.
GeekyCheekyChic - 5/28/2014, 5:05 PM
hopefully Godzilla comes out of the water and decides to put an end to this shit with his atomic fire.
PsychoticSpaceRaccoon - 5/28/2014, 5:08 PM
Chew some more cud, Hellboy666. Chew some more cud.
Indy - 5/28/2014, 5:13 PM
I read whole interview I like what he had to say I am very much still looking forward to this!!
HanBurgundy - 5/28/2014, 5:25 PM
WOW!!! This is [frick]ing absurd. Well, that's what happens when you allow someone like Colin Treverrow to take over the franchise. The guy is a hack.
ShadowlordSavage - 5/28/2014, 5:29 PM
John Williams can't do the music for Jurassic World as he is too busy scoring Starwars. The composer they got for Jurassic World is Michael Giacchino who scored (The Incredibles, Star Trek, Star Trek into darkness, Mission Impossible 3 and Ghost Protocol, Ratatouille, Cloverfield, Up, Super 8, and the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) I think he'll do a good job.
ShadowlordSavage - 5/28/2014, 5:31 PM
Kman, dude its in the lost world novel as someone already pointed out.
ShadowlordSavage - 5/28/2014, 5:39 PM
@nailbiter111, I was just replying to the john williams comment.
marvel72 - 5/28/2014, 5:41 PM
i was really looking forward to this but now it sounds worse than jurassic park 3.
ShadowlordSavage - 5/28/2014, 5:52 PM
I don't see how it sounds worse, he mentioned the crossbreeding was suggested in Crichton's book so he's not exactly pulling this out of nowhere.
AquamanIsTheBest - 5/28/2014, 5:52 PM
Am I the only one that doesn't have a problem with this?
ShadowlordSavage - 5/28/2014, 6:02 PM
@nailbiter111 oh ok just making sure
ComicFan523 - 5/28/2014, 6:03 PM
This sounds like it might be okay. I don't know if I like the idea of crossbreeding but I'll go in with an open mind. One of the themes of Crichton's book was science playing God leads to disaster, I'm betting that the new dinosaur goes on a rampage (duh) and its just them rehashing that same idea.
McGee - 5/28/2014, 6:15 PM
GodzillaKart - 5/28/2014, 6:16 PM
I have no idea if it will work, but there is absolutely nothing absurd in the concept. Scientists do that exact thing today, mixing jellyfish DNA with other animals to get bioluminescent bunnies and rats. Unlike the original science in the first movie, this science exists.
BackwardGalaxy - 5/28/2014, 6:43 PM
Everything he said seems pretty reasonable.
silverhawk - 5/28/2014, 6:51 PM
I can't believe that I'm ok with this. I ain't gonna knock it just yet.
CinemaHero - 5/28/2014, 6:57 PM
Actually, this sounds just fine. I don't see what everyone is complaining about. Sounds like they're drawing most of their inspiration from the first movie and the novels. That's good!

And Treverrow cleared up two of my biggest worries: some stupid, freaky mutant dinosaur, and "good" and "bad" trained dinosaurs.

Now pretty much my only concern is the effects. VFX and CGI have come a LONG way since the original Jurassic Park, but the CGI in that movie STILL holds up today! Some of it even looks BETTER than todays! If anything, we should be worried how they do their special effects, and how they balance practical effects with the CGI.
campblood - 5/28/2014, 7:21 PM
hey Colin I'm keeping my eye on you...

csdot - 5/28/2014, 7:40 PM
Wow what is the big deal? People complain about anything...
airbeyonder18 - 5/28/2014, 7:45 PM
I'm actually going to give it a chance..
batz11 - 5/28/2014, 7:48 PM
Call me a [frick]ing 'tard (ok, don't ;) but this stuff sounds interesting to me, the new dino should be the QS of this film (steals the show)...can't wait to see that sonabich camouflaged against some leaves or whatever, then just one eye opens to reveal it, that will will excite me...

JediPhilosopher - 5/28/2014, 7:56 PM
As a dinosaur fan, I hate this idea. There were hundreds of interesting species that won't make it into these, yet we get this "concoction"shoved in our faces. Stick to the dinosaurst that existed.
mmadadamm - 5/28/2014, 8:01 PM
dilophosaurs didnt spit poison at animals faces in reality if I remember. Velociraptors arent as tall as humans as I remember.

Carnotaurs had camouflage in the book. If it's going to be a Carnotaur I wonder how many people will still complain.
MightyZeus - 5/28/2014, 8:05 PM
I actually think it's some what awesome. I'm hoping it can work and i'm also hoping that the film will be good.
Steelers4190 - 5/28/2014, 8:29 PM
my god people at least wait for a trailer to write the [frick]ing movie off
