Everything that has been said about this has been perfect. After that 90's disaster I'm happy to see Zilla getting a good treatment.

@nailbiter111: The movie wasn't bad in and of itself...but it had no reason to be called "Godzilla". Heck, if it was a remake of "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms" I would have given it more of a pass.

Godzilla is an important part of cinematic history because 10 years after having the shit kicked out of their country with nuclear and fire bombing, Japanese made a giant monster movie where he was an unstoppable force of nature. The monster oscillated between being a metaphor for American military and what happens when you [frick] with nature without ever making the mistake of being either one.

Even with the cheesy old special effects, the first Godzilla is a horrifying movie that captures a sense of hopelessness and a country recovering from true terror and unsure of how to define itself.

Sorry, but the 90's flick was an insult. I have no idea if they can pull it off in a contemporary fashion, but from everything I've read the current team is really trying.

Fingers crossed.

how do people take Godzilla seriously? Those movies make me laugh for how silly the look and are.. Maybe this one will be somewhat cool since it's 2013 and not 1960

Shame they shoot this on the Arri Alexa... GODZILLA should be shot on film, partially with IMAX camera's. I can get to the fact GDT didn't used it on Pacific Rim and that he chose for the RED EPIC but IMAX is really THE format to use for such monster monster films!

Oh God please, when Snyder directs JLA or a MOS sequel, let him shoot it partially with IMAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

F*ck these tid-bits were getting... I wanna see G-Zilla in full already!!!!
GodzillaKart - 4/30/2013, 3:58 PM
@mkilban2: To be clear, my seriousness only applies to the very first one....although some of the later ones are serious fun.
ThatOneDude - 4/30/2013, 7:37 PM
God I hope they get this right...

Godzilla was such an important part of my childhood and if they get this right I'll be the first one in line at the midnight premiere

@Nailbitter it was because he was in the late stages of AIDS when he filmed that part for Godzilla....or was that just a melrose place arc?

Just watched it last night and you nailed exactly what was wrong. That and the creature design. Good monster movie , so so Godzilla.
DioFoRio - 4/30/2013, 8:31 PM
Dang Destroyer, where ya been?

Everything about the 1998 ZILLA was shit. It wasn't even Godzilla. Zilla did everything opposite of what Godzilla does, Godzilla walks through armys and crushes them, he doesn't run away from them, he walks through buildings and crushes them, he doesn't go around them and burrow under them, Godzilla BREATHES FIRE!!!!, And certainly doesn't die from 4 missiles to the mid section. For your comments, you are forever banned from commenting on Godzilla article. ZILLA 1998 was garbage, pure trash. 1 on the worst films ever, not even Godzilla films, but in general.

Just lets bloody see a pic of Godzilla for christ sakes...
KungFuGee - 4/30/2013, 9:40 PM
The last Godzilla really left a bad taste in my mouth, so I will rent this when it goes to Redbox.
Jobin - 4/30/2013, 9:41 PM
Godzillafart is on the money. The very first one is epic and horrifying. I had the pleasure of watching the original at the D.C. Center for Performing Arts. In its original Japanese glory. IT was awesome. If they could do something like that, it would be awesome, that is why I don't want other monsters to be in it, just him against the military. The later films are just fun, although Godzilla 1985 was pretty gritty as well. I even like GMK, cause he was a beast in that one.

Nothing campy about this:
