New Footage Featured In CES Trailer For Guillermo del Toro's PACIFIC RIM

Moments ago at the International CES, an alternate trailer was shown for the Guillermo del Toro-directed science fiction film Pacific Rim. Featuring some cool new footage, check it out...

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Starring Charlie Hunnam (TV’s “Sons of Anarchy”), Idris Elba (“Thor”), Rinko Kikuchi (“The Brothers Bloom”), Charlie Day (“Horrible Bosses”), and Ron Perlman (the “Hellboy” films), Pacific Rim will be released on July 12, 2013.

agree with Ror. These better not be the good parts they're showing the public! Always a shame when excitement level goes DOWN after seeing the 1st trailer. this is a better put together package, but still don't know what to expect from this one...
fastback67 - 1/7/2013, 8:20 PM
yep i agree the trailers are pretty week unless they re edit it and give it "wow" factor this movie
will miss its mark and be concsidered a floop so let hope for a better THIRD trailer.

Bodwulf - 1/7/2013, 8:57 PM
Gotta disagree with Ror on this one. Looks like a 70's film with today's FX. Looks nothing like a rope. At all. :)

Ya I mean I'm going to see this movie still but I honestly don't think it will be all that great. So many other badass movies coming out this year.

Grr video is gone?
JorLBola - 1/7/2013, 9:36 PM
The Video is gone but you can watch it on Youtube,
JorLBola - 1/7/2013, 9:37 PM
Wow, that was almost equal but better than the first one!
I only miss the roaring giant monster at the end
Darkhawk8 - 1/7/2013, 10:30 PM
@Ror if you don't like what you're seeing then don't watch it... Simple as that, now get over it.

Wow, some really cool footage in there. I'm liking the action-y route this film is going. At the same time it looks to have a pretty fun story, July 11th can't get here soon enough!
BlueDemon - 1/7/2013, 11:53 PM
@Darkhawk8- Exactly

AlexDeLarge87 - 1/8/2013, 1:56 AM
NICE!:P

Damn i wanna see Godzilla in there. Crossover would be so cool.

Big G would kick the shit out of those robots.

As Duncan Jones said, it looks a lot like Robot Jox:

But that's ok! It will be a great homage!! Film looks amazing.
GetsugaTensho22 - 1/8/2013, 6:24 AM
I thought the first trailer was amazing and i've been looking forward to this movie since it was first announced....

But that first image, with the pointy looking Jaeger, and the fact that their suits/helmets fill up with a liquid (which i assume is some sort of liquid meant for carrying oxygen), then that means they're borrowing a little TOO HEAVILY from Neon Genesis Evangelion
Greengo - 1/8/2013, 6:39 AM
Awesome!!!

GetsugaTensho22 - 1/8/2013, 7:26 AM
^^ High and Mighty? Hardly. Since It's a film featuring Mechas and Monsters (explicitly stated to be a homage to Japanese Kaiju), it's an honest Inference that they may have delved their arms a little too deep into Evangelion.

Now this isn't about me, but i hate Weebo's as much as the next guy (the people who go "omg kawaaiiii!! anime Iz So gr8" , but for you to somehow disregard everything that comes from Japanese culture because of what, tentacle porn, is absolutely foolish.
ddrussianinja - 1/8/2013, 7:35 AM
@GetsugaTensho22

Well, in fairness, Neon Genesis Evangelion borrowed heavily from its predecessors as well. It ended up being almost a deconstruction of the genre, taking well-established tropes and putting darker spins on them. Most of its designs and ideas weren't all that original, it was more that they tried to make them more "realistic".

In the case of "Pacific Rim", it feels like it takes equal parts NGE (the use of robots to fight apocalyptic hell monsters) and Gundam (international military mecha teams fighting against and alongside one another) with maybe a little bit of Aquarion (mentally-linked co-pilots). Frankly, this doesn't really bother me since mecha doesn't really have much of a presence in live action cinema. I mean, when was the last time you saw a live-action movie where people piloted giant robots that WASN'T imported from Japan? And if this is the pedigree for our baseline, I'm more than satisfied. It's about time we redeemed ourselves for our horrible version of "Godzilla" and the "Transformers" movie.

Besides, what would you rather have? An original concept based heavily on Eva, or some American asshole attempting to make a live-action version of Eva?

Beautiful points if I can add my 2 cents

For anyone that wants to know, that song is Zack Hemsey - That Which You Seek (Finds You)
I'd recognize his music anywhere.

@Ddrussianinja and @monkeyballs3

Wow, you guys actually stayed cool when i started on a mini-rant. I'm really sorry, and thank you so much for bearing with me and explaining your side.

You know what the trailers lack? It lacks a human element. Sure, we see the pilots and other humans but there's nothing in the trailers that make us feel for the characters. We are only left with a Transformers vibe which makes us feel nothing for the Robots. Yeah, it's just a minute and 30 seconds but I've seen trailers before that can hook viewers because of the emotional element.

Anyway, maybe it's just a case of a bad trailer not doing justice to a good movie (which GDT will deliver).
