Official Synopsis For Guillermo del Toro's PACIFIC RIM Released

The official plot synopsis has been revealed for the Guillermo del Toro-directed science fiction film Pacific Rim, which will feature robots battling giant monsters. Check it out...

According to MarketSaw and Fanboy Confidential, this is the official synopsis for the upcoming science fiction spectacle Pacific Rim, directed by Guillermo del Toro. They also mention that the first look at the film will be revealed at this year's San Diego Comic Con. Here is the synopsis:

From acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ epic sci-fi action adventure “Pacific Rim.”

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Oscar® nominee Guillermo del Toro (“Pan’s Labyrinth”) is directing “Pacific Rim” from a script by Travis Beacham (“Clash of the Titans”). Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Mary Parent are producing, with Callum Greene serving as executive producer.

The film stars Charlie Hunnam (TV’s “Sons of Anarchy”), Idris Elba (“Thor”), Rinko Kikuchi (“The Brothers Bloom”), Charlie Day (“Horrible Bosses”), and Ron Perlman (the “Hellboy” films). The ensemble cast also includes Max Martini, Robert Kazinsky, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Diego Klattenhoff, and Brad William Henke.

Pacific Rim is set for July 12, 2013 release.

hoodedjester - 5/23/2012, 12:42 PM
@ Nick - agreed but monsters fighting giant robots should at least make for a good popcorn movie and a few hours of mindless entertainment
mctrinket - 5/23/2012, 12:45 PM
Charlie Day gets to drive a big robot. That is pure win.
ralfinader - 5/23/2012, 12:46 PM
This sounds interesting. And it isn't based of a board game, so thats nice.
Homunculus97 - 5/23/2012, 12:50 PM
OK this sounds like a cross between Godzilla , NGE and Gundam, do I even tell how awesome it sounds ?
WebOfSpiderMan - 5/23/2012, 12:53 PM
Swick.
HelaGood - 5/23/2012, 12:57 PM
i think the part where del Toro is involved makes it interesting to me. otherwise it sounds like a reboot of Battleship already.
DEADP0000L - 5/23/2012, 12:57 PM

Thought Idris Elba was the main lead after Tom Cruise declined the role? I'm a little disappointed. Was hoping to see Idris Elba gain some more stardom and lead this film. Not many times you see a black actor leading a sci-fi movie other than Will Smith - and I'm tired of him as it is. REALLY disappointed. Still, one of my most anticipated films of 2013. If not one of the top 3.

Tea, bringing new ways of thinking about the term 'rim shot'...

but no pictures.... very disappointing.

ComicsCommando - 5/23/2012, 1:11 PM
Isn't Idris Elba in this movie?
beane2099 - 5/23/2012, 1:14 PM
As long as they don't say the word Kaiju in the movie. That works if a movie is in Japanese, not so much English.
DoomXfactor - 5/23/2012, 1:20 PM
Guillermo del Toro= Epic movie
Destroyer14 - 5/23/2012, 1:21 PM
Who said this sounds silly? I'm glad they're using the term 'kaiju.'

I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THESE GIANT MECHS!

Couldn't care less about the monsters.
marvel72 - 5/23/2012, 1:27 PM

Evangelion anyone?
crazyray - 5/23/2012, 1:42 PM
Believe me or not... whatevers.

So I take the train with someone whose family is working on this movie. I actually got to see some pics of the props for it. They flooded an entire soundstage to make it look liek the ocean. I saw a prop of what part of one of the creatures will look like. It was a grey-ish skin tone, looked like an eye orbital which will be CGI-ed in post. From everything I've heard this is going to be quite kick ass. If i can get the pics, ill post em.
DoomXfactor - 5/23/2012, 1:44 PM
jazzman - 5/23/2012, 1:44 PM
WTF, Idris Elba is the main star

@VicSage

i got to agree with u
AlexDeLarge87 - 5/23/2012, 1:45 PM
Awesome!:)

Knowing Del Toro´s style this is going to be badass as hell!

Yeah the movie sounds like Evangelion but i remember Del Toro saying once that he is a big fan of japanese kaiju monsters and the gigantic mechs.
So i wouldnt blame him taking inspiration from Anime´s like Evangelion.
Rather see him creating this new story than bringing Evangelion to the big screen. Which is perfect the way it is. Let the japanese bring that to the screen if must.
DoomXfactor - 5/23/2012, 1:51 PM

One of the greatest cartoons in a long time
Clayface27 - 5/23/2012, 2:16 PM

RaleighAntrobus - 5/23/2012, 5:03 PM
I've read the script and most of the info you guys are speculating about is wrong (neither Charlie Day nor Idris Elba pilot a mech/Jaeger, sorry.), BUT... my name is actually the name of Charlie Hunnam's character and I'll just say I'm more excited for this film than any future CBM.

You guys aren't ready...
MisterBabadook - 5/23/2012, 5:38 PM
Totally Evangelion.
marvelstudios - 5/23/2012, 7:05 PM
sounds ok i guess. might be the battleship of 2013. then again i watched that too
Jolt17 - 5/23/2012, 7:15 PM
Sounds sweet. It's all the concepts I grew up with as a kid, getting a proper big screen treatment...which, with someone like Guillermo Del Toro behind it, should be executed greatly. Give me more!
laughterman26 - 5/23/2012, 8:23 PM
wow, i wish del toro would make a dbz film. and is this an anime tv series.
