RUMOR: BBC To Announce New DOCTOR WHO Tomorrow; Is It One Of These Three Actors?

Starburst reckon that the BBC are going to announce our new Doctor as soon as tomorrow, just one week since the announcement of Matt Smith’s departure. Find out why, and who may be in the running for the role after the jump.

According to British sci-fi mag Starburst, a Sunday newspaper is intending to scoop the BBC by announcing the name of the new Doctor this weekend -- so in order to pre-empt that, the channel will announce the name tomorrow evening. They also report that early contender Ben Daniels is definitely not in the picture, and that the part might well go to one of the following actors: Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter, DREDD), Daniel Kaluuya (Skins, The Fades), or Dominic Cooper (Captain America: TFA, The Devil's Double). Now Starburst themselves say they can't be 100% sure about this, but that's what their sources have told them -- we'll have that pinch of salt handy until we see how it shakes out over the weekend. If it was to be one of those three though, which one would make the best Doctor?

if it was daniel radcliffe, i wonder what the response would be?
TheDIsSilent - 6/7/2013, 4:42 PM
I don't watch Doctor Who on a regular basis, but I know a little bit about it. Why not Ben Whishaw? He was great as Q, so why not Doctor Who?

JordanKing - 6/7/2013, 4:52 PM
I want them to pick Daniel Kaluuya, solely to witness people's inevitable reactions to a black Doctor.
Killuminatic - 6/7/2013, 4:54 PM
Daniel Kaluuya... A diverse choice. You can count out Dom Cooper, he's already moved out to bigger and better things isn't he still filming that Need for Speed movie? Oh and Gleeson, nah.
SuperJoe - 6/7/2013, 5:08 PM
it will be the black guy because the world has to be politically correct.
ThisIsHeavy - 6/7/2013, 5:12 PM
Daniel Kaluuya has already been on the show...
ThisIsHeavy - 6/7/2013, 5:14 PM

So it definitely won't be him, unless the BBC don't care about continuity...
LucasMend - 6/7/2013, 5:16 PM
Haha, just another bullshit rumor from a british magazine, with a so called "source". I really doubt it will be ANY of these. "Oh we have insiders" we'll only be sure when BBC says anything.
Triptheorist - 6/7/2013, 5:17 PM
I doubt it will be Cooper. Kaluuya was actually in an episode of Doctor Who called "Planet of The Dead". Yes, Karen Gillan, was in another episode but her role was a lot smaller. At least with Domhnall the Doctor will finally get his wish of being a ginger. Personally, I'm rooting for none of the above.

ThisIsHeavy - 6/7/2013, 5:18 PM
Mother[frick]ing BBC.
Ocelot - 6/7/2013, 5:21 PM
None of these dudes will get the role
LucasMend - 6/7/2013, 5:21 PM
I think BBC will go for someone a bit younger than Matt Smith was back when he was chosen, but I'd like someone a bit older, in Eccleston or Tennant age again ya know.
ThisIsHeavy - 6/7/2013, 5:26 PM
How about Gary Oldman?
SpectacularJoSh - 6/7/2013, 5:29 PM
Sean Bean as the last doctor.
ElBicho - 6/7/2013, 5:32 PM
Even though he turned it down before, I'll always hold out hope for Bill Nighy.
LucasMend - 6/7/2013, 5:38 PM
Sean Bean would be perfect, because this might be the Doctor last regeneration, so if the doctor dies, goodbye :P
SkinnyGlasses - 6/7/2013, 5:40 PM
I'm praying it's going to be James D'Arcy. Not too famous, not too unheard of.
ChrisParis - 6/7/2013, 5:42 PM
It's none of these guys, and I'd bet there's no announcement even. Dominic Cooper for sure is out, he's in L.A. now, not even in UK.

Moffat was shooting for a "middle aged" actor to replace Tennant, and it was only the strength of Matt Smith's audition that won him the role. I'd bet Moffat's back in the "older guy" theme again, since so many of the recent doctors have been young.

These people asking for big stars have to remember that BBC has almost no budget for this show, much less salary. It will NOT be a big name.

I want Ross Noble, in full Stitches regalia.
RorMachine - 6/7/2013, 5:43 PM
Maybe..maybe not. It IS a rumor..but not an unsubstantiated done - Starburst are legit.
Myaveregelife224 - 6/7/2013, 5:46 PM
TheDIsSilent: i have to agree with you. I loved his portrayal as Q he would be an amazing doctor!
TerminalVoyd - 6/7/2013, 5:51 PM
Given that, in all likelihood, the part has already been cast and likely since sometime between January and March of this year, the "front runner" line this mysterious, unnamed Sunday paper is running with is crap.

We'll see one way or the other, but I'm not buying it. And @ThisisHeavy, on top of PanterX's Karen Gillan example (and Freema Agyman before her), Colin Baker, the 6th Doctor appeared in a 5th Doctor story (Arc of Infinity) before being cast in the lead role later on. Basically, there's precedent.

EuroCulTAV - 6/7/2013, 5:53 PM
You guys are kidding...I know a lot of you have probably only been watching Who since 9 or 10. But Colin Baker appeared as a Time Lord guard Commander Maxil in the 5th Doctor Story Arc of Infinity the season prior to being cast as the Doctor, so there is a precedent for this sort of thing.
DRMidNite - 6/7/2013, 5:58 PM
Idris Elba would have been my pick.
CWSensation - 6/7/2013, 6:25 PM

Yep. Baker even joked that he killed the last Doctor to get the job.
Bread - 6/7/2013, 6:32 PM
I want Ben Whishaw to play him.

Bearjew - 6/7/2013, 6:52 PM
I hope it's Dominic cooper
ManofwooD - 6/7/2013, 7:18 PM
who the hell cares...!!!
thenerdicon4 - 6/7/2013, 7:27 PM
@ManofwooD plenty of people care. There is a huge fanbase for the show. Well, I guess you must be living under a rock then. A show doesn't last for 50 years without a strong fanbase dude.
JorL5150 - 6/7/2013, 8:59 PM
I vote for a hawt female doc.

Preferably red haired as, I've been told, the doc always wants to be a ginger.
JorL5150 - 6/7/2013, 9:07 PM
@ kryptonianabomination....

What if I just genuinely don't like an actor? And what if I don't give a sh*t about his skin color? And what if I don't like and actor who has brown skin?
are you allowed to assume I'm rascist?

There's a shit ton of honkey white cracker actors I loathe. Hate channing tatum hate armie hammer hate shia ledouche. That must mean I hate white people- eh?

But I adore ...say, morgan freeman, laurence fishbourne, and so on.

So am I allowed to NOT prefer this choice? Is that ok with you?

I bet ... I bet gustos wallet YOU are honkey white.
JorL5150 - 6/7/2013, 9:10 PM
We're gonna make a movie about mother teresa.

Let's cast rapper common.

You gotta problem?
maciomhair - 6/7/2013, 9:28 PM
Hmm, plausible but dubious. I'd not thought of Domhnall Gleeson before, but I think he'd be rather good after Anna K and Dredd.

However, the bookies still have two actors far ahead of the others as favourites: (From William Hill - other establishments where you can waste your money are available)
Ben Daniels 2/1
Chris Addison 3/1
Everyone else 12/1 or longer odds

Still not convincing, but bookies don't like losing money, so they may be onto something.

My own choice would be Richard Ayoade.
maciomhair - 6/7/2013, 9:31 PM
One other thing, I'd not think the BBC would be worried about a tabloid scooping them; last weekend, one of the tabloids had a front page spread saying Michael Jackson's daughter was being offered the role!!! (The same day she ended up in hospital)
FoxForce5 - 6/7/2013, 9:46 PM
I agree with @JorL5150 - I really want a female Doctor!!!
jimoakley666 - 6/7/2013, 9:49 PM
Don't really care for any of them three. Gleeson is a bit drippy, Kaluuya is chavvier than Rose Tyler and Cooper just isn't odd enough.
BookerDewitt - 6/7/2013, 10:52 PM
[racial slur] Who ? really do we need a black guy playing dr.who lol
number1hero - 6/8/2013, 12:12 AM
Meh....Doctor Who {cares}....
Riddlemethis82 - 6/8/2013, 3:12 AM
Quite funny as soon as gusto start insulting the longest running show in history all the sheep follow
SuperDude001 - 6/8/2013, 3:24 AM
Domhnall Gleeson, Ben Daniels, or Ian Hart!
