There's A God! Next RESIDENT EVIL Film Will Also Be The Last

Paul W.S. Anderson chatted with Collider, during the discussion Anderson revealed that the next Resident Evil film will also be the last one. He also disclosed the tentative title: Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Hit the jump to whine.

For over a decade Screen Gems has been cashing in with their Resident Evil film franchise. The first film in the series, 2002's Resident Evil, pulled $102M and then the sequels: 2004's Resident Evil: Apocalypse did $129.3M, 2007's Resident Evil: Extinction did $147M, Resident Evil: Afterlife did a best $296.2M and Resident Evil: Retribution did second best with $240M. They cleared some hefty profits as they were given surprisingly modest budgets for films that relied heavily on complex action sequences and CGI. It is one of the few video game-to-film adaptations that has actually been successful. So, it is quite surprising that Paul W.S. Anderson revealed to  Collider that the next Resident Evil will also be the last one.

He started off the conversation with Collider by revealing the title, which is “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter." He cautioned that its just the working title at the moment, but added, "It may end up being the final title, but that’s what’s written on the front page of my script… I’m right in the middle of [the first draft].” When title meant it was the final film in the series, Anderson revealed, “That’s what’s on the title page, it’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, so absolutely.” There you go, it will be the final chapter, for real.

When can you expect The Final Chapter? Not any time soon. They don't have a released date nor a production start-date. That'll figure out the start-date once Anderson complete's the first screenplay. As for a release date, Anderson says,  “I don’t know [when it will be in theaters], depends how fast I write, I guess. There’s no set date yet but hopefully we’ll have an announcement for that soon.”

Resident Evil: Retribution - The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.

Resident Evil: Retribution will be released on DVD and Blu-ray December 21st. The film was directed by director Paul W.S. Anderson and stars Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Sienna Guillory, Oded Fehr, Bingbing Li, Johann Urb, Colin Salmon, Shawn Roberts, Boris Kodjoe and Kevin Durand.

I wish it was coming out yesterday so we can finally be done with these awful films.
SpiderFraud - 6/16/2014, 6:49 PM
Finally! Maybe in the next two years we can get a real RE movie.

Nick56 - 6/16/2014, 6:53 PM
the RE movies are my guilty pleasure movies. Plain stupid fun.
themidnightking - 6/16/2014, 6:54 PM

Next RESIDENT EVIL Film Will Also Be The Last

ALegendaryPanda - 6/16/2014, 6:58 PM
Oh my god.... it's actually ENDING!! I can't believe it!
SpiderFraud - 6/16/2014, 7:00 PM

Hell yeah. It's automatically on my top 10 list of favorite anime shows, just for the intro alone.
DaVinci31 - 6/16/2014, 7:03 PM
“Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is the working title."

Mike89 - 6/16/2014, 7:04 PM
Thank the heavens this franchise is almost OVER! Maybe they can reboot it, and give us the REAL RE.
Desrow - 6/16/2014, 7:05 PM
[frick] the haters, love RE franchise (except for most of part 5).

AlphaMasterFlex - 6/16/2014, 7:05 PM
I like the movies even if I'll admit they aren't a good representation of the games. It's been known for awhile that this will be the last chapter and I think it's time for them to wrap it up, Retribution was just a filler til the final chapter. Hoping Ada, Leon, Chris& claire, Jill valentine, & Wesker all return. My guess on the release date is sept 2015 and once screen gems is finished with this they will move forward with the Devil May Cry movie.
SpiderFraud - 6/16/2014, 7:09 PM
Why people gotta be haters, lol. These RE movies got tons of problems.
GuardianAngel - 6/16/2014, 7:12 PM
If you don't like them, just don't watch them. I don't.
RexDartEskimoSpy - 6/16/2014, 7:16 PM
Normally I'd bitch about editorializing and unobjective reporting, but it's okay cuz it's Nailbiter. Fvck this franchise.

Although... At least the Resident Evil movies keep Paul W.S. Anderson busy and away from other properties.
Phronesis - 6/16/2014, 7:17 PM
I'm so overwhelmed with the franchise I don't even want a reboot.
TheGambitFreak - 6/16/2014, 7:20 PM
I'm not a Resident Evil fanboy. Didn't really get into the games nor the films. But I know quite a few dedicated gamers to the series, who hate the movies. I know a few peeps who liked the first 2 or 3 movies, never played the games. All of which, cannot stand nor see why they continued making films. I remember when the last one came out. It was it's opening weekend, the lady and I were in line to see whatever crappy 'B' romcom was out and I was paying close attention to who was buying tickets for what, it's just a weird quirk about me. And dude... No one was there for Resident Evil. Not the tweens, the goths, the nerds, the douches, the regulars, the normalfolk, NO ONE. Always made me wonder who Anderson was making Jovovich sleep with in order to get the green light for these movies.
AsgardianHobo - 6/16/2014, 7:21 PM
It's true?!?!?! It's ending???? About damn time!
Mrsinister - 6/16/2014, 7:26 PM
I hope they reboot it. I liked this movie series but the game was soooo good. and the movie series was nowhere near as good or chilling
ezio619 - 6/16/2014, 7:31 PM
THERE IS A GOD , while u are it, MR GOD, can u make sure Guardians of the galaxy is good, ant man is goood , every superhero film coming out is good,i would really appreciate that
AsgardianHobo - 6/16/2014, 7:32 PM
As a massive fan of the early games, these movies always felt like an insult or something. They could have just named it something else, and left the Resident Evil name alone.
JoJo1982 - 6/16/2014, 7:38 PM

Mrcool210 - 6/16/2014, 7:40 PM
THE final destination was supposed to be the last one as well and that wasn't the case, there is also freddys dead the final nightmare. I doubt it will be the last one especially if it makes a profit
eleven59 - 6/16/2014, 7:44 PM
You mean a REal movie...
SuperCat - 6/16/2014, 7:57 PM
God is good! All of these movies are bad.

First Momoa confirmation for this. Today was a good day.

Our long nightmare is finally over.

....I wonder if this is how the slaves felt after being set free.
DrunkenNukem - 6/16/2014, 8:04 PM
Worst franchise in movie history..
DrDoom - 6/16/2014, 8:06 PM
Finally time for a Resident Evil reboot that follows the real story of the games, and uses the real characters in a faithful way.

If I can get a proper adaptation of this game, I would be [frick]ing ecstatic:

krylonshadow - 6/16/2014, 8:07 PM
First of all, I am surprised there are actually people who believe that just because this series is ending, that they will get a new RE movie that is both accurate to the game AND a good movie--video game adaptations have almost exclusively been neither. Personally, I think the Resident Evil movies are a damn good guilty pleasure. The first movie still beats the shit out of nearly every video game adaptation despite being a completely different take on the RE universe. Yeah, the rest of the series is hit or miss, but the 4th one was actually awesome. It's really never too late. Look at X-Men. They took a movie series even older than Resident Evil that people were basically petitioning to end, and ended up creating one of the best comic book films to date with Days of Future Past. If this last RE movie sucks, so be it, it'll still be better than all the other mindless action movies out there, but hell, it might just end up being good.
DrDoom - 6/16/2014, 8:10 PM

'One of the best comic book films to date'

fettastic - 6/16/2014, 8:14 PM
RE1: Marylin Manson's score makes that [frick]ing movie.

RE2: Jill Valentine was hot as hell, everything else was [frick]ing retarded.

RE3: Better than 2, kind of a boring story.

RE4: I actually like this one for the most part. The 3D was great.

RE5: Fromundacheese.
YeezusWept - 6/16/2014, 8:22 PM
Marc Webb should do the reboot.
OnePunchBaldy - 6/16/2014, 8:42 PM
Just end Resident Evil as a whole... too much I don't want a reboot, I don't want a new game. I want a break!
WeAreVenom86 - 6/16/2014, 8:44 PM
Well....this is a load off our mind.

@ TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM
Milla Jovovich is married to Paul Anderson...he's the only reason why she is still doing movies.

So...the nightmare is finally ending. The first one is the only good one. Making Nemesis a "Redeemed Hero" was utter bullshit. Sienna Guillory was an awkward and terrible choice for Jill Valentine...Ali Larter blew monkey balls as Claire Redfield.....and pulling half-assed characters out of his ass really made this franchise total shit. Like we said before...if it wasn;t for Paul Anderson...Milla Jovovich wouldn't be doing movies.
