Super Scribes Orci and Kurtzman Keep Us In The Star Trek 2 Loop

Sequel news regarding the best movie of the summer!!(Voted Best Movie Of The Summer By You ComicBookMovie Fans)

When asked what actually had been done in regards to Star Trek 2 Orci states:

"We had about a 15-minute to half-hour discussion with the whole gang and went off on our separate ways. We're still in the re-reading and taking it all in phase before we actually sit down and start designing the film."

"We have to comb through everything and make sure that we leave no stone unturned because that was the approach that I think we were looking for on the first movie," states Kurtzman.

"And when you pitch an idea, sometimes someone will be like, 'Well, that's like that one episode,'" adds Orci. "Even in trying to stay away from it, you can crash back into it."

Kurtzman acknowledges the fact that there is a lot of buzz for the Star Trek Sequel: "We take nothing for granted at this point," he says. "We're only going to do it when it's really right."

Meaning it won't be rushed and done purely for the revenue. The studio has enough respect for the source material to take their time with the production, as to make a quality film.

The two Super Scribes also addressed rumors that the second Trek film will tie in directly with the Third:

"It was more the fact that we talked about the minute you start seeing how much Star Trek there is and how many ideas everyone is having, you realize you could have enough material for… Well, you know, there's been 43 years of material!" says Orci. "That's all that we meant by that. So, it happens to cross your mind, but we're not leaning one way or the other yet."

"It's a balance," adds Kurtzman. "The approach for us on the first movie was how do we please fans and how do we please people who have no relationship to Trek. It's a question we have to keep asking ourselves constantly. It's a very tricky formula because it's hard… A lot of what makes die-hard Trekkers really focused on Trek are those details that can sometimes be alienating to people that are not on the inside. So that leads us back to things of what are the big themes? Emotional ideas? That's a language that everybody speaks."

Other points of interest from this awesome IGN interview are below.

1) The phrase "He's dead, Jim" will likely show up in part two.

2) Frequent J.J. Abrams guest star Greg Grunberg has started a campaign to play classic Trek comedic villain Harry Mudd.

3) As previously reported, fellow Abrams collaborator (and producer on the first film) Damon Lindelof will join the writing team for the sequel. Of the writing method, Orci explains, "We're going to come up with a story together, obviously in consultation with J.J. and [executive producer] Bryan [Burk]. And then we're going to write it up together, the story, us and Damon. And then Alex and I will write the script."

4) Whether or not the pair will still be around for a third film is too early to tell.

5) And no, Khan did not even come up during the conversation!

Cool! Harry Mudd! That would be a great comedic role. I was disappointed McCoy didn't say "He's dead Jim" in the first one.
superdog - 8/10/2009, 9:21 AM

RorMachine - 8/10/2009, 11:21 AM
You and Shibazz both know very well that Wolverine was not nearly the worst movie out this year! And if you don't..well, you bleedin should!
LEEE777 - 8/10/2009, 11:25 AM
ROR @ We all know DRAGON BALLS was the worst movie this year!!! ; D
RorMachine - 8/10/2009, 11:59 AM
Yep. With Street Fighter a close 2nd. Then Joe. Then Warzone. The maybe Wolverine! But i still liked it.
ASSASSIN666 - 8/10/2009, 12:03 PM
Sacrilege, that's what redoing star trek is. Some movies should just be stamped untouchable, and this is right up there. Should gone with the wind be remade? how about godfather, or star wars? Let's see citizen kane remade while we're at it. There was no f**king reason to redo star trek with a cast that couldn't stand up to the originals if they were standing on f**king mt. everest. If you want to see the real thing go rent or buy the originals, this remake was a gross injustice.
superdog - 8/10/2009, 12:04 PM
teabag@ the spirit came out in december so that movie was last year.

never saw streetfighter or bragonballz but i can believe they were the worst. wolverine cannot be the worst. no way. warzone sucked, so that could be it. i would say gijoe is running right there near the bottom.
superdog - 8/10/2009, 12:05 PM
sirprize@ i agree i have seen many articles, mainly lee77, be usurped by articles that come later. either from people who are editors or who have been posting longer. they just get the deference. thats the way it is. but i hear ya.
stupify_me - 8/10/2009, 12:45 PM
I would say DragonBall is worst of the year followed by Street Fighter then Punisher after that I would include Transformers 2 and GI Joe not sure which was worse. Wolverine was better than all of those. It still wasn't good, but better than all that crap. I don't think the Spirit counts if it did though it would be around Dragon Ball.

Greg Grunberg is awesome I'd love to see him in the next film.
georgia49th - 8/10/2009, 12:53 PM
A gross misjustice? Star Trek?
Are you mad man?
Star Trek the best movie of summer 09!!!!!!!
hated the Godfather series could care less,
Agree with you on GWTW and Citizen Kane.

warmachine88 - 8/10/2009, 12:59 PM
yes jj's adaption was soooooooo awesome that would be cool like if they did it like the matrix 2 and 3 buit if not who cares its gonna be awesome anyway i loved the reboot..
RorMachine - 8/10/2009, 1:06 PM
Guys, thats not how the main page thing works at all. If an article is posted that is full of typos or has large chunks copied and pasted directly from the source or is just too short it will not make the main. Also, if an article is not noticed by one of us for a few days it needs to be re posted because moving it to the main then would just shoot it way down to the bottom. There isn't some big conspiracy going on here! I had a huge article in Olmos being cast in Green Hornet written out earlier and scrapped it when i noticed sirprize got there first. If its good enough, and we see it, it will get to the main.

superdog - 8/10/2009, 2:06 PM
sirprze@ im just glad i made it to main once. now i can retire on top
dancingmonkey08 - 8/10/2009, 4:22 PM
Well done jman, you the man! :) Btw, awesome Kirk motivational poster. Its so true! lol

Oh and as nothing else is going to rival it,

I cant wait for 2011 and the awesome sequel to come out with one of the best directors, cast and crew of a movie in ages!

Its just a pity that the best movie of this year wasnt a comic book movie. In my favourite comic book movie, Im sorry but I have to say I liked Wolverine. Watchmen rocked but I have liked Wolverine and the X-Men since I was a kid so Im kinda biased
Spock - 8/11/2009, 2:15 PM
I say congrats J-Man. But Iam the only that posts STARTREK Stuff u hear me Man. LOL

Hey just 1 ? for you Where is Johnny LOve or where is his Avatar? He is in your Reviews but we don't hear him on here.

Superdog - there is a fine line about maintaining standards, especially when you have a duplicate article on the main page and have someone else that posted earlier not receiveing the same due diligence. Then the individul becomes biased. It's not appropriate to give yourself privy treatment at the expense of others.

***Sirprize, who are you to define what's not appropriate when this is what you wrote on my site:

Who give a two shits. No subtitles and it looks like left over Power Rangers vomit. Takes her forever to transform. I could of popped a round in her before she even started her snoreformation. "

So keep your "TWO SHITS" statements to yourself. What the hell did I ever do to you?
