TREKWARS: Image Pokes Fun at JJ Abrams' Decision

As the debate over JJ Abrams’ involvement with both the Star Trek and Star Wars franchises continues, artist Bob Thiele has offered up an image that pokes fun at the situation and Trekkers that may feel a little slighted.

Describes Thiele, “I happen to be a a fan of both franchises and am actually really curious to see what JJ Abrams will do with Star Wars. I know he’ll still be involved with the Trek films as a producer, but I couldn’t help but feel like this news was a slap in the face for Trekkies everywhere. Still looking forward to Star Trek: Into Darkness, though!”

Ha, that's very comical

I remember when it was first announced, 6 or 7 years ago, that JJ would helm the Star Trek reboot, all of my really diehard, hardcore Trek nerd friends were disgusted at the thought. "He's not Roddenberry!" Now, two movies later, they don't want him to leave.

''Fans'' a bunch of hypocrites. All they do is jumping on bandwagon and they think that they are cool if they dish stuff like J.J Abrams doing Star Trek or Star Wars

ugggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this is going to be terrible
AraxisHT - 2/16/2013, 9:22 AM
Trek fans didn't want Abrams to begin with. I really hope that Jar Jar Abrams' Star Wars project never sees the light of day.

I am not at all looking forward to this... I recently tried watching Star Trek, but quit after about an hour as I found it to be superficial cliche crap...

How is this news? I saw this pic weeks ago.

Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman (and whoever the art director was) didn't really make a 'Trek film. So when you say "Trekkers that may feel a little slighted" it's not really accurate.

If you are a "Trekker" the loss of Abrams (or any of the other people mentioned above) is a good thing for the word "Trek". Maybe future use of the word will actually apply to a film that resembles in story and design something much closer to what we once had.

You star trek fans are ridiculous. Always praising Abrams for his great ST movie, but now that he's leaving you all start bashing him. Pathetic.

Anyways, funny pictures. Poor Kirk:)

Star Trek Sucks! Star Wars is way better!!!
Paragon79 - 2/16/2013, 11:19 AM

I grew up with Trek as a child and Wars as a teen and have enjoyed both as an adult. How could any Sci Fic fan not love both?
Bread - 2/16/2013, 11:54 AM
@CptPresley That's the way I've always viewed the dispute. Both franchises have their ups and downs, but overall they are both AMAZING!
JMESS - 2/16/2013, 12:04 PM
ummm who cares? if the movies are good shouldnt everyone be happy?
SpiderBat209 - 2/16/2013, 12:17 PM
A kid in a Boba Fett helmet and a Sarlac Pit in the sand box would have been funnier. :)

@santoanderson: I want him to leave, him and the incompetent screenwriters he works with.
I just hope he won't insist on having them put a hand on the Star Wars script.
DetBullock - 2/16/2013, 12:37 PM
@pintoman: Exactly my thought.

Abrams is a good story teller with great balance of humor and drama. Most of all, he puts that 80s touch on things. He's PERFECT for the STAR WARS series. All I ask is, no cross-referencing STAR TREK. In ANY kind of way- Not even jokingly or Easter-egg like. And no cross-casting either.

I love how this illustrator included JJ's "mystery box"

nice Detail Bro!
lalosuper3001 - 2/16/2013, 1:24 PM
I do not get what the "mystery box" means. Can anyone explain?
Paragon79 - 2/16/2013, 3:39 PM
What's better, Star Wars or Star Trek....Space Balls.
RolandD - 2/16/2013, 6:02 PM
This is looking like the old tired DC v. Marvel wars. Let's hope that they are great films and we all win.
RolandD - 2/16/2013, 6:18 PM
Although I have to add this. Can we not have any more Slusho references? Or at least make them more subtle. When they were in the bar in Trek, I thought I was going to hurl when Uhura ordered a bunch of drinks in the bar and one of them was Slusho.
Paragon79 - 2/16/2013, 7:24 PM
Idk why people are worried about him using lens flares in episode 7. In pretty sure Star Trek was the only movie he really used them on. Also, these are two seperate movies that happen in space, so I highly doubt he'd use flares again, since he'd want these two movies to have a seperate feel from eachother.
dudemanjac - 2/18/2013, 1:24 PM
Only time he used it? How about how he managed to lens flare underground when there were no lights in Super 8. Enough with the gimmicky visual effects. I just watched Blood and Chrome the other day. Someone should be shot for what they did.
