An up and coming British actress who has appeared in the likes of 24: Live Another Day and Black Mirror has reportedly joined the cast of J.J. Abrams' Star Wars Episode VII. There's no word on who she'll be playing, but hit the jump for further details!

According to Latino-Review, Christina Chong (who was recently named as the lead actress in Sergio Mimica-Gezzan's live-action Halo: Nightfall) has landed a role in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars Episode VII. There's no word on who she will be playing, but as the production is shooting in the UK, it shouldn't really come as too much of a surprise that they're scooping up a few addition British talents.

The site don't have any additional details on who the actress will play, but looking at some of the work she's done in past could indicate that she'll have some action scenes to tackle! We'll be sure to keep you updated, but considering the movie was initially criticised for a lack of women and diversity, they certainly seem to be taking things in the right direction. What do you guys think?

I first read it as 24 actresses join Star Wars!
SauronsBANE - 7/17/2014, 11:56 AM
Haha, seeing how much of a sausage fest Star Wars has been, 24 new actresses joining the new trilogy would be one of the best things to ever happen to this franchise.
SauronsBANE - 7/17/2014, 11:57 AM
Cool news though. I never watched 24, but if she's the lead in the new Halo project, she HAS to be a pretty convincing badass. Awesome.

Anyone think its a bit odd that they announced the already large cast, people complained about lack of females, and now have been just adding more and more females to the cast? Were they always planning this or is this simply reactionary?

@Nick56, It's certainly possible. But then again, who cares? Haha just like with the female Thor and Falcon-Cap, if the end result is more competent, talented, important, well-written, diverse characters (female, minorities, etc), I couldn't care less for the reasons behind casting them. I just care that it's finally happening.

Diversity means: We need to have more women and an Asian, so let's kill two birds with one stone in that we have only a half Asian (which is more acceptable than full Asian), but at least it's a female.

Are people going to finally admit that Latino Review is the best scooper on the planet yet? Seriously. 75% of the news we get on this site is directly from Latino Review.

The crazy thing is...Hasbro have actually produced the 'blaster hit' Greedo. The POTF2 Commtech Greedo has a blaster scorch under his vest.

Good looking biracial woman. I approve wholeheartedly.
ShallowDeadpool - 7/17/2014, 5:41 PM
I could be wrong, but I believe diversity is an old, old wooden ship used during the Civil War era..
mgeoff88 - 7/17/2014, 7:34 PM
Awesome! EP7 will have a lot of female characters.

That's music to my ears, because the previous Star Wars films could've seriously used more of a female presence.

I remember when they cast all these solid actors in the prequels like Rose Byrne and Claudia Karvan and Keisha Cadyle-Hughes.

They were all in it for like 30 seconds. I can't get excited over casting news yet.

So many actresses, possible evidence that Mother Talzin and the Night Sisters will show up. That's not a bad thing. She's a mysterious figure who controls a side of the force neither Sith nor Jedi ventured far into. I don't know what it's called, but I think of it as necromancy. Used to actually bring the dead back to life. Palpatine hinted that he had dabbled in it. I've even read there's strong reason to believe Anakin was the result of Palpatine's unnatural manipulations of the Force, so one could say, Palpatine was his father, Luke's Grand-dad. Mother Talzin appears in some episodes of The Clone Wars. The night sisters were apparently defeated after an epic battle on their home planet by General Grievous in an attack ordered by Darth Tyrannus. And, even though Mother Talzin seemed to have died, she mysteriously returned more than once in the Clone Wars.
JediPhilosopher - 7/18/2014, 10:31 AM
Anyway, if I had to guess, I'd say maybe this actress will be a night sister. She looks almost elf-like in that pose in the picture. With some face paint, she'd be perfect. I'm probably wrong though.
