Very cool.
StrangerX - 8/24/2011, 10:17 AM
They [frick]ed it up with the puppet in Phantom Menace. I hated the look of that thing.
Ironbat95 - 8/24/2011, 10:17 AM
looks good. CGI yoda makes sense for prequels
JoshWilding - 8/24/2011, 10:19 AM
They made the right decision. The Yoda in The Phantom Menace looked more like a puppet than the one in the original movies! (which should NOT be changed IMO as it was fine)

@Armageddon26
BooYah - 8/24/2011, 10:27 AM
I like it.
Valar1 - 8/24/2011, 10:27 AM
the puppet in PM looks bizarre, the eyelids are too puffy, it doesn't come close to matching the empire strikes back one, I'm glad they redid it with CGI, although I detest all the other bullshit unecessary additions Lucas keeps spooging all over the OT
TheBatman938865 - 8/24/2011, 10:33 AM
...i do lol
marvel72 - 8/24/2011, 10:34 AM
i like the new cgi yoda in phantom meance, but he should leave the original trilogy the f*ck alone.
RorMachine - 8/24/2011, 10:35 AM
Do whatever you want to TPM Georgy boy. Replace Obi Wan with a [frick]ing Ewok for all I care. You wont make it any better, and you sure as hell can't make it any worse. Just don'#t touch The Original Trilogy and we wont have a problem fatso.
StrangerX - 8/24/2011, 10:35 AM
What they need to do is go back and reboot PM and focus more on Darth Maul.
Akercocke - 8/24/2011, 10:37 AM
Good decision. Looks so much better, and it gives the prequels a sense of continuity. When I first watched Episode I I thought "who the f*ck is this? Yoda's stoned cousin?"
rlkjets130 - 8/24/2011, 10:38 AM
Over the years, I have become convinced that Lucas is a shit filmmaker, who surrounded himself in his early career with incredibly talented people, but as his head got bigger from all the fame, he became more hands on. I mean, of course he had some great ideas, but he seems to not be able to discern the good ones from the bad ones anymore. That is why the prequels suck, that's why Crystal Skulls sucked. You can see it happening in Return of the Jedi, his people gave him more reign, they didnt correct him as much, and that is why you have way too much focus on the Ewoks, who are definitely cute, but come close to ruining the tone of the movie, which should have been so dark and intense until the end. It really is disappointing that there is no one willing to call this man on his shit anymore, because when done so, he is truly incredible, but he just needs someone to remind him that while he has a lot of good ideas, that doesn't mean all of them are...
Spock - 8/24/2011, 10:39 AM
I just want something new already not the same stories, Has Lucas learn nothing from Star TRek Yet? WTF
sinister84 - 8/24/2011, 10:41 AM
Yoda's puppet in PM wasn't that bad... I didn't find a reason to change it...
Superheromoviefan - 8/24/2011, 10:43 AM
he looks awful
MaddMonkk - 8/24/2011, 10:47 AM
Is Lucas going to make Episodes 7-9? Leia and Han's baby or babies, Chewbacca's death, Luke in the Vader outfit, or Ewok jedi masters?
CapFan79 - 8/24/2011, 10:49 AM
Um, this has been available since 2005 on the ROTS DVD extra features.
DoctorRobert - 8/24/2011, 10:49 AM
i dont mind the CGI in the new ones. Just keep the puppet in the older ones please :))) lol
TorturedXGenius - 8/24/2011, 10:50 AM
it's Lucas' films he can do what he wants with them, but the CGI one looks better than the puppet.
cosmicstranger - 8/24/2011, 10:52 AM
This is considered...news? Star Wars is suffering from a slow, agonizing, and especially EMBARRASSING death.

@rlkjets130- Agreed.
cosmicstranger - 8/24/2011, 10:54 AM
@MaddMonkk- I will agree with you, except just kill off the "Darwin Award Waiting to Happen" (er Luke Skywalker).
BackwardGalaxy - 8/24/2011, 10:55 AM
Am I the only one who finds the CGI work in the new version completely lackluster? His mouth looks strange and his facial expressions don't match the inflections in his voice.
Guerillas - 8/24/2011, 10:57 AM
the best one is from the original trilogy. why couldnt they use the original puppet?
StrangerX - 8/24/2011, 10:58 AM
Too bad Nolan is already using a Bane character in his film because if Lucas wanted to get on my good side.

He would do a movie on Darth Bane, Path of Destruction and Rule of Two are great stories.
GUNSMITH - 8/24/2011, 10:58 AM
THANK GOODNESS..THAT PUPPET WAS HORRIBLE. CG YODA..MILES BETTER.
cosmicstranger - 8/24/2011, 11:00 AM
@yossarian- Right on.
GodzillaKart - 8/24/2011, 11:00 AM
I'm trying to imagine a bigger "who cares", but can't. What a lateral move.
GodzillaKart - 8/24/2011, 11:02 AM
The should have replaced the kid with a cgi version. He looked faker than the puppet.
GUNSMITH - 8/24/2011, 11:04 AM
I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS FROM BACK THEN TO NOW MAYBE IT WAS BECAUSE HE WAS OLDER OR WHO KNOWS WHAT THAT "THING" THAT MADE THE PUPPET EMOTE SO WELL...

THE PHANTOM MENACE PUPPET JUST CAME ACROSS AS A PUPPET.
Brashlight - 8/24/2011, 11:06 AM
Ror@ I completely agree, the abomination that was EP 1-3 can be changed all they want He just needs to stay the hell away from the original trilogy. Its bad enough he did those mid 90's rerelease with some CGI added in. He better not freakin do that again!

Tea@ That is an amazing gif LOL, love the leathal weapon! Both the movies and the one in my pants!
jjmeylar - 8/24/2011, 11:10 AM
This looks to be pointing in the direction of complete and utter CGI editing for the films......which is awesome. It beats using petroleum jelly to blur out the image of the land speeder's wheels.
NoAssemblyReqd - 8/24/2011, 11:11 AM
I'm hopeful but not overly optimistic about TPM undergoing some radical edits, like Spielberg did with CLOSE ENCOUNTERS' SE. If GL can turn Episode 1 into something fans are not so embarrassed to have on their shelves, he will earn back my respect and admiration. He's had over a decade to listen to the criticisms. That's plenty of time to have learned from his mistakes. ROTS and The Clone Wars series have demonstrated that he can still produce enjoyable, fun, engaging entertainment.
HelaGood - 8/24/2011, 11:12 AM
Shaun says NO to CGI Yoda!!

level1paladin - 8/24/2011, 11:16 AM
This is fantastic news.
UltimaRex - 8/24/2011, 11:17 AM
I am against this for one simple reason.

If you swallow this the original Yoda will be next.

Count on it.
thedudeabides - 8/24/2011, 11:21 AM
alekesam - 8/24/2011, 11:22 AM
I think this is a step up visually. At least now, Yoda is consistent across all six movies as that original puppet looked nothing like him in SW:PM. I really don't mind Lucas messing around with any of the visuals (and yes, that includes the original trilogy) so anything he wants to improve on visually (like the add-on scenes he put in the re-release of the original trilogy for instance...those city shots and extra shots of cloud city looked good, but not up to snuff as compared to some of the stuff released in the prequel) I'm all for. He could completely overhaul all six films to make them look more consistent visually with one another (which I suspect is the issue with him and why he keeps messing with them) I'd have no qualms whatsoever.

What I don't want is Han stepping over a Jabba tail that wasn't there to begin with or editing a scene that changes the character (Han again with him not shooting first). That kind of shite I can deal without.
GUNSMITH - 8/24/2011, 11:22 AM
ORIGINAL YODA SHOULDN'T AND CAN'T BE MESSED WITH ..HARDCORE FANS WOULD HANG LUCAS...I THINK LUCAS WOULD RATHER HANG HIMSELF THAN CHANGE THE ORIGINAL. PEOPLE WOULD HAVE A FIT, HECK THEY WERE TRYING TO GET INTO MENACE YODA WHAT THEY DID IN THE ORIGINAL..FOR SOME REASON THE CG LOOKS MUCH BETTER THAN THE MENACE PUPPET.
thedudeabides - 8/24/2011, 11:23 AM
I wouldn't mind Jake Lloyd as much if they lowered his voice an octave.
