First Possible Plot Details For STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Emerge

A report about the filming location for 'Yavin 4' in the original Star Wars reveals that fans should expect to see filmmakers return to the location for Episode VII as Luke Skywalker reportedly sets up a new Jedi Knight academy. Hit the jump for details!

Reuters have posted a report about the Guatemalan rainforest which George Lucas used as 'Yavin 4' in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. It was from this planet that the Rebels launched their attack on the Death Star from, and if the following is to be believed, it appears as if we should expect to see it return in Disney's currently untitled Episode VII...sort of. "Yavin 4 and the rebel base return to the Star Wars plot in the forthcoming Episode VII, announced in October by the Walt Disney Co, in which Skywalker comes back to the planet to build a Jedi Knight academy. However, fans said that Disney will likely film those scenes in a studio rather than return to Tikal." They don't reveal where exactly this information came from, but it sounds like more than simple speculation on their part. On the other hand, the fact they say, "fans said" may shed doubt on the validity of their claims - we'll just have to wait and see. Stay tuned for any further updates!

This is nothing but a rumor. Reuters never cites ANY source(s) and just says it. Classic case of people taking speculation too far. This is a non-story.

I'm skeptical of this news

I don't think I buy this simply because it's already the plot to the Jedi Academy series by Kevin J. Anderson. It's possible but nothing new, that was written in the early 90s.
vtopa - 12/19/2012, 11:49 AM
Best formula is if Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill all play a role in the first flick in getting the Jedi Academy off the ground, then a cliff-hanger where the three old farts are in peril, then they die early in the second movie and the new generation takes over from there into the third flick. Either that or kill one off in each flick.

...and have the millennium Falcon crash into something kamikaze style. Go out with a bang, nothing is sacred. The only hold-ver to survive should be Chewbacca (no joke).

I hope this movie isn't 100% cgi. I like on location. The prequels were nice visually but sometimes it was just overwhelming how fake it looked.

I'm not sure I can believe this. Sounds like someone told them the plot of the Jedi Academy Trilogy book series and they took it as gospel.
bhorwith22 - 12/19/2012, 12:19 PM
Filming in a studio is fine with me, but I hope it isn't all greenscreen.

As long as they shoot on film and do as much practical as possible (yeah I said that) then I'll be pleased already!!

Disney doesn't know what the hell they doin' with Star Wars
mr2324jgf - 12/19/2012, 12:51 PM
i'd like to go on record that I never attacked anyone here personally. I commented, which is accepted here at CMB i believe, how I saw fit on the article and that was all. Why other folks here are so uptight they feel the need to lash out and call another person names based on their comments is beyond my comprehension... I'll chalk it up to a possible age gap and immaturity for now. NEXT

@vtopa: Ironically, in the EU (a lot of which is far far better than the prequals), Chewie is dead (crushed in heroic fasion by a falling moon) and the rest are alive.

If this is true I will have 2 reactions;

Firstly "Yey, they are going for some already laid down EU fluff that is good instead of some crazy GL rubbish"

Secondly, all of my toys will be going far out of the pram if they HAVE gone with EU stuff but decided against Thrawn.

Maybe they are doing this because they can feasably use the origional cast to get a bigger draw for the sequals with it being further on in the timeline, then when they get past the new trilogy, if they want to carry on doing more, they could do "The Thrawn Saga" with younger, recast actors and do it as a stand alone trilogy instead of making it an episode (I can hope!). That way they could source plenty of EU stuff, and have it in the right place in the timeline, without getting crazy episode numbers flying around, then they basically have a limitless pot of storylines to dip into for movies.
marvel72 - 12/19/2012, 3:57 PM
