STAR WARS EPISODE VII Lead Role Down To Five Contenders

And then there were five! Star Wars Episode VII director JJ Abrams is reportedly looking at any one of five actors and proving that Disney's 2015 space opera may be more diverse than we thought! Hit the jump to check out who's up!

Star Wars Episode VII director JJ Abrams is reportedly looking at five actors for the lead role in the 2015 blockbuster. They are: Downton Abbey's Ed Speelers, Attack the Block star John Boyega, Jesse Plemons, theater actors Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher. Not much is known about the role right now but it is believed to be the film's main protagonist and a Jedi.

The director is open to a diverse cast, with both David Oyewolo and Michael B. Jordan having done screen tests in early production. Abrams is expected to give the lead role larger actors in support, like Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford.

What do you think? Which of the actors should be the next Jedi to grace the silver screen? Sign off your opinion on the options below!

Jesse Plemons!
wookiefit - 3/12/2014, 1:11 PM
Aren't they starting principle filming in a month?
ndwwrestler2 - 3/12/2014, 1:12 PM
Wow. People were fearful that they wouldn't go after relative unknowns. Nothing is set in stone, but it looks like those fears may be unfounded.
TChalla - 3/12/2014, 1:12 PM
Lol no offense @Dev but it's "Down'to' Three Contenders" not "Down Two Three Contenders"

My bad, speed typing to get the story up
DaVinci31 - 3/12/2014, 1:14 PM
I don't like any of them. If I had to pick, Matthew James Thomas.
ndwwrestler2 - 3/12/2014, 1:14 PM
Just looked up these guys. If Boyega is in the mix, then they are all probably going after different roles, unless they're not caring how the characters looks in terms of race or nationality, which if that is the
captainireland - 3/12/2014, 1:16 PM
Three? Is there not five names listed?
DEVLIN712 - 3/12/2014, 1:18 PM
Also a product of speed typing

Just pick whoever is responsible for this shit:

I really think he can bring some authenticity to the woe-is-me eye sex scenes.
cipher - 3/12/2014, 1:21 PM
Hehehe, me too, bro.

I have GOT to see how reaction to that.

wookiefit - 3/12/2014, 1:30 PM
@ Gusto

That is great. I just bursted out laughing at work.

wookiefit - 3/12/2014, 1:31 PM
It's like looking at a reverse Oreo.
wookiefit - 3/12/2014, 1:33 PM
Maybe Boyega is playing Lando's son or someone else new.
wookiefit - 3/12/2014, 1:34 PM
@ Gusto

I wonder what that pic would look like if you photoshopped it between Miley's who-ha? Now that would be a wookie cookie.
Nick56 - 3/12/2014, 1:35 PM
Im guessing one is for Lando's son and the other, Luke's son

THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 3/12/2014, 1:42 PM
Glad they're all unknown for the most part cuase that's what made the characters from the original relatable. No one could say "Hey, that's (insert known actor)."

Primordiac - 3/12/2014, 1:47 PM
Hehe I loved Attack The Block !
Nemeres - 3/12/2014, 1:49 PM
I think it would be awesome if a black guy was the star of the world's biggest franchise (it would be a gigantic testament to this era's advancements on equality), and John Boyega was the tits in Attack of the Block. So my vote's on him.
FordEl - 3/12/2014, 1:54 PM
Give it to John Boyega
RaxusPrime - 3/12/2014, 1:54 PM
@Galactus, dude I understand that you need to advertise on the page, but mother[frick]er... I opened one link and my whole page turned into ads. Please stop the pop ups. Just advertise in the columns only.
BlackIceJoe - 3/12/2014, 1:55 PM
It's great to see more black people will be in Star Wars. All you have is Lando and Mace. So I hope they have more then just John Boyega. I also would enjoy seeing more theater actors in movies. So I would be okay with Mattew or Jay being in the movie. Lots of times theater actors are better then film actors. So going after better actors is always a good thing in my mind.
FanofMrSunday58 - 3/12/2014, 1:57 PM
Just as long as Boyega isn't the son of Han and Leia, because that just SCREAMS we don't want to look racist.
Arrow96 - 3/12/2014, 1:59 PM
That mother[frick]er from Breaking Bad.....
TheDesertGorilla - 3/12/2014, 2:07 PM
Why are they all British except the dude to the right?
TheDesertGorilla - 3/12/2014, 2:08 PM
One of the black dudes will probably be Lando Calrissian's son or something.
Wallymelon - 3/12/2014, 2:13 PM
Attack the block!
OnePunchBaldy - 3/12/2014, 2:19 PM
John Boyega!!! He has my vote, loved Attack the Block
xcan - 3/12/2014, 2:21 PM
Jesus H! So the choices are: a guy from one of the most overrated piece's of shit movie in "Attack the Block", Matt Damon's younger redheaded stunt double and some guy who's in some British show where the central topic focuses on what tea to drink that week?

Fcck all three. I'm really starting to get worried for this JJ Star Wars... hopefully I'm wrong.
repulse93 - 3/12/2014, 2:33 PM
Just adapt the goddamn New Jedi Order, and use the film adaptation as an opportunity to fix the problems of the books.

Boom! EU saved. Yuuhzan Vong as antagonists that don't negate Anakin's sacrifice. Excellent opportunity for practical effects characters.
speedybri - 3/12/2014, 2:36 PM
I can totally believe this. I work in the film industry, nothing as large as this film, but surprisingly a lot of crucial decisions often don't get made until very late in the game. I've seen actors come on board as little as 3 days before production begins.
