STAR WARS VII & Boba Fett Solo Film Rumors Galore

Sources for Kellvin Chavez of Latino-Review, have informed him of a wholes slew of information pertaining J.J. Abrams' Star Wars VII and the rumored solo film for the galactic bounty hunter, Boba Fett.

A week ago, The Hollywood Reporter unleashed a massive amount of "inside" info on Star Wars: Episode VII, and now Latino-Review is chiming in with their own. First up, the conflict between former Star Wars VII screenwriter Michael Arndt ("Toy Story 3") and director J.J. Abrams. As we already know, Arndt left the project not too long ago, and J.J. and Lawrence Kasdan took over writing duties. A source for Latino Review reports that the conflict was based on focus on the film. Which we also heard from The Hollywood Reporter, but their take is slightly different and possibly provides more detail of where the plot now centers.
We’ve heard that Ardnt was much more into the story of the Solo kids, while JJ felt – and still feels – that this the story of the Skywalker line. Since Ardnt walked almost all of his ideas have been tossed and Abrams/Kasdan are pursuing the Skywalker-centric version they wanted. Mark Hamill’s part has been beefed up so much he might end up shooting 6 months on the movie, our source estimated.

We've also heard plenty of casting rumors. Just last week, The Wrap reported that Breaking Bad's Jesse Plemons, who played Todd, was up for a leading role. Latino Review's source says that Plemons is very close to signing on as the main protagonist, Ben Skywalker, Luke's son.

Latino Review's source differed with The Hollywood Reporter's source when it came to talk of a daughter or graddaughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
In response to a rumor that Obi-Wan would have some sort of offspring, we’re told that it’s absolutely not true. That being said, the Kenobi family will come into play. Could be niece nephew, no real details on that one. It could be a Force Ghost or a something else, we just know it’s not his daughter or grandkid.

To counter-act the prequels, the Boba Fett spin-off movie planned for 2018 has an interesting twist pitched by Episode VII writer Lawrence Kasdan: the spin-off will start with a complete stranger killing Boba Fett and taking his armor, starting a Man-With-No-Name bounty hunter tale. So: someone kills the Boba Fett from the prequels and takes his armor and name. One this is for certain is that Kasdan didn’t like the prequel and wants no Bobba Fett Clone in the spin-off film.

Who will direct it? Perhaps, Joe Johnston ("The Rocketeer"). Latino Review believes that the Captain America: The First Avenger director is at the top of the list.

Doesn't sound too bad regarding Boba Fett, I mean, was anyone seriously a fan of the person beneath the mask in the prequels? If they can make him a more interesting character, then sure they should change it, not really a major change I feel, people only really like Fett for being a badass bounty hunter..
Lozzy - 1/16/2014, 11:32 PM
But Boba Fett's voice has been changed in the re-release to be the same as the guy who played Jango Fett. Just let Boba Fett be Boba Fett!
Alphadog - 1/16/2014, 11:55 PM
@AlphaFlexXxKO I'm with you on the original character and it's nt just because or name starts the same. It would be cool if they all had big supporting roles. Luke is the first mentor but then dies fulfilling the curse of every mentor dying in the first movie. The second one would have Han as a military leader teaching the main character but then sacrifices himself at the end. Finally the third would have Leia and she would teach the protagnist about being a leader. Maybe don't kill her. Anyway, I want original characters. I don't even want their sons but i can accept that if it's necessary.

You have to kill Boba Fett and basically reboot him. Why?

Blame George Lucas

1) Return of the Jedi: What was a cool Boba Fett from Empire Strikes Back became a basically inept bounty hunter with comical skills who was killed in slapstick farce when Han Solo accidentally hits his jet pack with a staff? Silly.

2) Attack of the Clones: Young Boba Fett was just a brooding, obnoxious little punk ham handedly being forced into the action sequences with his "father" Jango who was the real bounty hunter. And by showing him as a little removes the mystique that Boba Fett had from ESB and neutralizes him.

3) Making Boba Fett just another clone. This also neutralizes him and takes away his mystery. Something is to be said about not seeing the face behind the helmet. It makes Boba Fett cool. But now you know what he looks like (Jango Fett)...and then Lucas had to one up it by redubbing Boba's voice in ESB with Morrison's voice.
Why couldn't Boba have the same voice he originally had? Why did they have to change it to sound like Jango Fett's voice? Couldn't something have happened to Boba on one of his missions that caused his voice to change.
Just keeping the voice the same as it was in the original ESB counters some of the Prequel garbage and reintroduces some mystery to the man behind the mask.

Knowing too much about someone's back story risks to reduce the mystery that we build up in our minds....and nothing can compare to our own imaginations about he unknown. So you ruin it by giving away too much and in turn let us down. (See also: The Halloween remake and backstory of Michael Myers).

So YES....Kill Boba Fett....reboot the character and DON'T let us see his face...only in shadow and dim light. We should never see a clear image of Boba Fett's human face. That makes him more menacing, mysterious and dangerous.

More than OK with all of this.
DatNerdyKid - 1/17/2014, 12:00 AM
I honestly think I'd have preferred Arndt's script going by this...mainly because I love the 'Legacy of the Force' book series.
TyrantBossMedia - 1/17/2014, 12:02 AM
Alphadog - You have to have new characters introduced because if any future movies are to be made they will carry on the story. As long as they are relative unknowns in those roles, actors with limited resume's who will stick with the franchise, then it will be good. The minute they cast a well known actor, or someone who doesn't want to stick it out is when you have to RECAST a role and that is bothersome...most especially if it is a main character.

As for deaths. The only death I think that needs to happen is Han Solo. He should die in the third movie as the penultimate hero. Give him the perfect hero's death and leave Luke and Leia as brother and sister to oversee the "New Jedi Order" or whatever they are doing. Then they can just live on in the background, make the occasional reappearance....and live in the new Star Wars universe that is being created.
CarlXVIGarfield - 1/17/2014, 12:04 AM
I hope the Boba-killing is true! King Kasdan!
Humperdink - 1/17/2014, 12:08 AM
"In response to a rumor that Obi-Wan would have some sort of offspring, we’re told that it’s absolutely not true."

That never made sense to me from the start. Even if they tried to create romantic tension on the cartoon between him and that Mandalorian dime piece...Obi wouldn't have a love-child.

Come on....he's a devout Jedi don't mess that up.
Also, who'd he knock up while spending all that time on Tattooine looking after Luke with a reputation of being the town lunatic?

Start a new mythology with new characters we can come to love.
Humby - 1/17/2014, 12:09 AM
LOVE the Boba Fett idea. Not because I hate clone concept from AOTC (although I don't particularly care for it) but because it's just an awesome idea. It has such a lone drifter feel to it, and feels very western to me. It has my support all around.

It might even be cool if the plot ends with the main character dying, and someone else picks up the armor. Although it would need to be played out just right to work.

The legend is greater than the guy in the suit. Such a good premise.
LuBeTHiGhWalK3R - 1/17/2014, 12:14 AM
I love the idea of Boba Fett's armor being stolen! It reboots the character in an original way instead of doing a clone story which is the sci-fi equivalent to the soap opera twin story...
Humperdink - 1/17/2014, 12:18 AM

Good points.
That would be very cool.
Humperdink - 1/17/2014, 12:32 AM
personally, i would rather that the old ones were involved, but only just as necessary enough to 'pass the torch'.

That's probably exactly what's going to happen.
I can't see it working any other way.
mgeoff88 - 1/17/2014, 12:37 AM
I really like what I'm hearing! I'm still not sure how I feel about Jesse Plemons possibly playing Luke Skywalker's son though...

Obi-Wan having a daughter sounded way too far fetched.

And the approach to the Bobba Fett movie sounds kind of like an interesting way to go.
NOLANITE - 1/17/2014, 12:45 AM
All bull crap bull crap I tell ya!!
This series will burn I tell ya!!

Yes. This. OMG or whatever this "kidz" say these days.

Awesome idea. So simple but totally brilliant.
Wolf38 - 1/17/2014, 1:26 AM
Dude, the Solo kids ARE part of the Skywalker line. Why can't Mark Hammill play a big part alongside them?

But my main concern, and it is a big one - i.e. I'm scared - is that this film is going to have "written by JJ Abrams" stamped on it. You took a screenplay by Michael Arndt and tossed it? Brilliant. I really hope that Kasdan has some good ideas, and that the changes made are STORY-DRIVEN and not merely about JJ's desire to geek out on the past. Mega sigh.

As for Boba Fett, that actually sounds like a great idea. Anything to erase the character's IMO horrible usage in the prequel trilogy is a great idea. Just make the new story a good one.
sanyaya - 1/17/2014, 1:27 AM
lol this all sounds like horeshit the obi wan kenobi part made me [frick]ing laugh
Wolf38 - 1/17/2014, 1:30 AM
@Tyrant Boss
I agree, and am very skeptical about milking mystique-driven characters with overly detailed biographical backstories (Boba Fett, Wolverine, Yoda, etc.).

If they do make a Boba Fett film, it should be all about what made him cool to begin with, i.e. the shadowy mystery, menace and utter sense of inescapably. It needs to be a dark, edgy film.
Wolf38 - 1/17/2014, 1:31 AM
revjordan - 1/17/2014, 1:32 AM
Wait. what? Isn't the Solo line the Skywalker line? Or do Jedi avoid their cousins?
Danbojohnj - 1/17/2014, 1:38 AM
Like the sounds of that
REPOMAN - 1/17/2014, 1:57 AM

@mgeoff88[personally, i would rather that the old ones were involved, but only just as necessary enough to 'pass the torch'.

Nope, they would not have thrown our Arndt's script if that's what they want.
Jumpman - 1/17/2014, 2:46 AM
This is why I'm staying clear of the Disney Star Wars films. Everything in these rumors sounds ridiculous...especially the Boba Fett idea.

He died in Episode VI. Move on.

The best and only good idea for these Disney Star Wars films is to do a trilogy that tells the tale of the Jedi Sith Wars, way before the Skywalkers. It doesn't mess up the Saga and it would be completely fresh.

The Skywalker tale is done. What else is there left to tell after Episode VI?
sonokrypton - 1/17/2014, 2:54 AM
Isn't it considered bad for judicial to have relationships and children and stuff? Wasn't that part of Anakin's downfall? Why would a master judicial like Luke (who knows all of this...) have a kid? And who with? There are only like 4 or 5 women in the galaxy and that includes his sister.
sonokrypton - 1/17/2014, 2:55 AM
**JEDI! !! (Damn auto correct! )
Humby - 1/17/2014, 3:15 AM
@Jumpman - You realize the Boba Fett movie would take place before Return of the Jedi right? Probably sometime between the two trilogies.

Although I agree with your views on the Skywalker story, I have a hell of a lot more faith in what Disney and Abrams can do, than what Lucas did with the prequels.
WruceBayne - 1/17/2014, 3:36 AM
Boba Fett's look needs to be updated. The helmets cool but the rest of him looks like a homeless person from Las Vegas.
TheRealGoku - 1/17/2014, 4:16 AM
I've always been a fan of The Rocketeer but i've never seen that 90s Movie adaption, it's never been out there for me to want. Might check it out to see whether it'd be a good mix.
DarthOptimus - 1/17/2014, 4:22 AM
I'm all in for the Boba Fett rumor, hope it turns out to be true.
Canon108 - 1/17/2014, 4:26 AM
How does Joe Johnson keep finding work? The man is a horrible director...Jurassic park 3, wolfman, CA: TFA, they're all very poorly directed.
Canon108 - 1/17/2014, 4:29 AM
And IMO, CA: Winter Soldier looks amazing, the first film was incredibly weak...least they stepped it up for the sequel.
P90 - 1/17/2014, 4:32 AM
I hope that the Fett rumor is true because its an awesome way to get rid of the clone crap.
4thDoctor - 1/17/2014, 5:25 AM
Maybe they'll use the Jaster Mareel character as the "REAL" Boba Fett.

It'd be cool if the movie starts in the desert of Tatooine, pans over the debris of Jabba's Sail Barge shortly after the events of Return of the Jedi. Flames still raging across the sand, the camera moves to show the familiar Sarlacc when, suddenly, it explodes. Out of the carcass climbs a battle-worn Boba Fett.

Of course, they may always use Dengar, he and Boba were partners in some of the novels. I know they aren't using the EU novels as any sort of official jumping point, but there is soooooo much information to mine there.
sameoldthing - 1/17/2014, 5:27 AM
I don't think the way Fett was "supposedly" killed was weak.
Solo would never have been able to kill/defeat Boba so Han got lucky (as always) when he accidentally hit Fett's rocket pack.
Plus,if you never see a body no one knows for sure if they are dead.

Boba Fett is covered in armor & weapons..he didn't die inside the Sarlacc.
Sure he yelled, who wouldn't if you fell into a giant sand vagina.
teinen - 1/17/2014, 5:47 AM
No Plemmons! That guy has a touch of the downs.
Joe Johnson blows.
Super12 - 1/17/2014, 5:49 AM
I don't remember the names of the books but when I was a kid I loved reading about Jaycen and Jayna Solo. I wouldn't have minded the focus being on them. But a Ben Skywalker centered movie is perfectly fine. I like that Abrams wants to focus on the Skywalkers, just hope the twins aren't relegated to minor characters.

This probably has more to do with Harrison Ford's no wanting to do much more Star Wars. Mark Hammil was probably much easier to work with so they knew they could have a better story with Luke.
HecticHector - 1/17/2014, 5:55 AM
I like JJ's approach better than Arndt's.

Glad it's the one that sticked.
GinjaNinja - 1/17/2014, 6:14 AM
would be cool I guess... But best part about boba is nobody knew anything about him.
