Is Work Finally Moving Ahead On A Fifth TERMINATOR Movie?

There's been a lot of rumours about a fifth Terminator movie, and while it very nearly got off the ground last year, it's been a while since we heard anything definitive. Well, Annapurna Pictures have promised fans that "News Is Coming". Hit the jump for details!

Annapurna Pictures picked up the rights to The Terminator franchise last year, and while it looked as if Justin Lin (Fast and Furious) would helm a fifth instalment in the franchise, those plans fell through soon after. As you can see from the Tweet below, the studio has now rather cryptically teased that "News Is Coming" about the film. Could this be some sort of announcement in regards to a release date? Of course, the film still needs a writer, director and cast at this point, although it's widely assumed that Arnold Schwarzenegger WILL return, if only for a cameo. Annapurna are best known for releasing such critically acclaimed films as Killing Them Softly, The Master, Lawless and upcoming release Zero Dark Thirty.

I'm down, i think the hate on Salvation is largely undeserved. I wanna see the full out future war of T2 tho
toco89 - 10/31/2012, 5:17 PM
After salvation, I hope so. It sucked, only movie I've seen with Bale in it I didn't like. The Prestige, Dark Knight series, and another one I saw when he was much younger, can't remember the name though.
Ha1frican - 10/31/2012, 5:18 PM
And no Arnie cameo, the CG version worked great but other than that no
Haloprime2 - 10/31/2012, 5:18 PM
Bring it on... No batman!
toco89 - 10/31/2012, 5:19 PM

Sam Worthington and Common, that's all Ill say about salvation.

Ben Affleck looks like a younger Arnold Schwarzenegger.
bhorwith22 - 10/31/2012, 5:24 PM
Bring back Christian Bale. Besides 2, Salvation was the best in the franchise, and I'm sick of them changing the actor for John Connor.
MJPETTY7 - 10/31/2012, 5:34 PM
I hope so! I do hope they bring back Bale though, I think he could be a really good John Connor given a better script. Also, I enjoyed Salvation... Not the best Terminator movie in the world, but it's a decent movie and enjoyable to watch. I just hope they get this one right!!!!
Zordan - 10/31/2012, 5:36 PM
christian bale and arnold!!!! i would love to see that!
StingrayX - 10/31/2012, 5:36 PM
I hope they make a 5th, they HAVE to finish it off with Kyle going back in time, or else the series won't be complete.
thewonderer - 10/31/2012, 5:46 PM
Bale and Arnold would be magnificent
CCR - 10/31/2012, 5:58 PM
My main problem with Terminator:Salvation was they showed practically everything in the trailer. Always a dumb move.
Rheynger - 10/31/2012, 6:22 PM
@starscream- what about the fact that Arnold's arm was still in the gears where the t-100 threw him into???? Which means they still have another arm....
KalEl1996 - 10/31/2012, 6:46 PM
Hopefully Bale and Arnold will be in it.
Tony93 - 10/31/2012, 6:58 PM
Arnold will be in human form, secluded himself from the wars.. in a bunker.. Bale finds him somehow, and Arnold explains how Skynet used his DNA for the machines. He will join Bale in defeating the machines (Arnold replicas)

MisterBabadook - 10/31/2012, 7:55 PM
That could work

I've loved the Terminator movies back since when I was a kid. But T3 kind of killed the franchise for me.

I don't see them coming up with a great story for T5.

It's just going to be a rehash of T2(just like T3 was) and it won't measure up.
FoxForce5 - 10/31/2012, 8:39 PM
I'm in the, "I didn't hate Salvation" camp. Didn't love it but definitely didn't hate it. Sure it had it weak points (Sam Worthington) but I thought Bale as John Conner was pretty damn good and would like to see more of him doing his thing and kicking some T800 a$$.
NostalgicYouth - 10/31/2012, 9:14 PM
I know I'm going to sound like a broken record and a copier for saying this But I don't hate Terminator: Salvation like everyone else did, it had its flaws but it wasn't horrible like the shit fest T3 was. But yeah, I would love to see the silver, futuristic robot war that T1 and T2 showed us glimpses of.

It will be a decade when this movie comes out
WarnerBrother - 10/31/2012, 9:59 PM

Inhuman - 10/31/2012, 11:14 PM
i hope they bring back christian bale to do #5 and #6. they have to stop recasting john connors and stick with one guy
Mego - 10/31/2012, 11:20 PM
We actually have had 1 decent Terminator sequel and in many ways it was a remake of the original.
This plotline existed in 1+2: 2 guys come from the future. A seemingly invincible Bad Guy, is sent back in time to kill a person with the surname Conner so machines will win a war in the future.
The other is a Good Guy who a far less powerful than the Bad Guy and he was sent back by John Conner to protect the target.
Bad Guy and Good Guy search for Conner. Both find Conner at the same time and Conner reluctantly accepts Good Guys help.
Good Guy + Bad Guy fight Good Guy escapes with Connor and hides.
Conner and Good Guy are located by Bad Guy as they ride in a vehicle then they wreck on a bridge.
Bad Guy is slowed down a bit while Good Guy + Connor take off on foot.
Bad Guy gets in Semi Truck and chases them into a factory where he loses sight of them.
Bad Guy Searches the factory and finally locates his target but then Bad Guy is killed when elements in the factory are used to dispose of him.
Good Guy dies.

My point here is that the Terminator Original really is not a film that should be stretched into multiple films because it just doesnt have the depth.
The Original was made in 1984 and in 30 years we've had one well received sequel, T2, which as I just pointed out was practically a remake.

Terminator was an OK movie but was it good enough to warrant sequels 30 years later?

pro346 - 11/1/2012, 12:15 AM
@dark metal well were up to the 3rd iron man movie....
pro346 - 11/1/2012, 3:17 AM
@Sotojuice man salvation wasn't that bad! I liked it!
NovemberGrey - 11/1/2012, 2:45 PM
I was a HUGE T2 fan, and still consider it one of the best action films, and best sequels of all time, however, The Sarah Conner Chronicles is in my mind the best incarnation of the franchise to exist. It lacked the budget, scope, and in some instances quality of acting (Linda Hamilton is Sarah Connor), but did a great job at exploring the characters. I'm still pissed about not getting a season 3.
