Last night, Marvel Studios shared a kickass new trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and we're now taking a much closer look by breaking down its biggest reveals and moments...

The first teaser for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings did a solid job of setting the stage for what's to come in the Marvel Studios movie, but last night's trailer now has fans really excited for September 3rd.

There were a few surprise cameos in this latest footage from the movie, with one, in particular, blowing everyone's minds. This is a movie that will clearly have wider ramifications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe than we expected, and there were lots of other huge moments to delve into.

The trailer shed some light on the supporting cast, The Mandarin's endgame, and possibly even when in the MCU timeline this origin story takes place. Marvel Studios never releases anything by mistake, and the footage has left us with plenty to discuss when it comes to Shang-Chi's live-action debut.

8. The Legacy Of The Ten Rings

We still don't know the origin of the Ten Rings (and whether they're alien in nature), but it looks like they may have granted Wenwu a longer than normal life.

It seems he's been around for a very long time, and while he's become a criminal along the way - likely explaining why an offshoot of his organisation kidnapped Tony Stark - it's certainly possible that he was once a noble warrior. Either way, this is a movie that appears to be all about legacy, and we see Wenwu tell a young Shang-Chi that the Ten Rings could one day be his.

We know that's not something he's interested in, of course, and the hero rejects his father by moving to America and creating a new life for himself. It doesn't take long until Wenwu and his men (including Death Dealer) catch up with him, but we'll get to the significance of the Ten Rings in the present day a little later.

7. Michelle Yeoh's Role Revealed

It was revealed way back at Comic-Con in 2019 that Star Trek Discovery's Michelle Yeoh is playing Jiang Nan in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, but this trailer offers a better idea of what she'll bring to the table.

As someone who is familiar with both Wenwu and the titular hero's mother, we're guessing she's been a mentor to the hero throughout his life, possibly even helping him tap into some of the powers we see later in the trailer. There had been speculation she could be playing his mother, but the younger woman we see with Shang-Chi in a flashback doesn't resemble Yeoh at all.

What she'll bring to the table beyond this remains to be seen, but something tells us this is a character who could be pivotal to how Shang-Chi's story plays out in the movie.

6. Tension Between Father And Son

Both trailers have made it apparent that Shang-Chi is looking to escape his father's shadow, but that's going to be easier said than done if what we see here is any indication.

Despite growing up at Wenwu's side, the hero clearly has no interest in his father's dealings. Simu Liu is 32 years old, so assuming Shang-Chi is around the same, he'd have been 19 around the time Tony Stark was taken captive by the Ten Rings; could that have been the straw that broke the camel's back and the moment he decided to flee to America?

It's a compelling theory, but if there's one thing we can be sure of, it's that The Mandarin does appear to care for his son. That alone should create an interesting dynamic for these two.

5. A Giant Lion

In one of the trailer's craziest moments, we see a battle between warriors clad in red and black with a very much alive Chinese guardian lion taking out a warrior from the latter group.

Is it possible that this is a flashback to the moment The Mandarin got his hands on the Ten Rings? It certainly seems like Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will explore Chinese mythology, bringing to life that country's rich tapestry of fabled creatures in the process.

Of course, another big moment from this point in the trailer is Shang-Chi's present day battle with Razor Fist. That's something we caught a glimpse of in the first trailer for the movie, and while we now know Wenwu sends his men after the hero, we have a feeling this fight is a little more personal.

4. Battling Xialing

Xialing is Shang-Chi's sister and someone who has seemingly remained by her father's side since her brother chose to take off for a much happier life in America. We don't know what sort of effect that's had on her, but she can be seen here squaring off with her brother in that fight tournament.

There have been rumours for a long time that Shang-Chi might be forced to battle for the Ten Rings in a series of fights. However, we're not sure that makes sense unless a) Wenwu had them stolen from him and needs a fighter who can take his place now he's older or b) he's just looking to find a worthy successor with this being the best possible way to do that.

This could be the moment Xialing decides to join her brother's quest to stop their father once and for all or a pretty significant betrayal. Either way, we're definitely intrigued by what leads to this clash.

3. The Great Protector

We know many of you caught sight of this dragon and immediately assumed it was Fing Fang Foom, but that's not the case. Simu Liu has already confirmed that the dragon won't be included in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (the name probably didn't help matters).

Instead, merchandise has confirmed that this is a water dragon called The Great Protector. What role it will play in proceedings remains to be seen, but it would be pretty rad to see Shang-Chi heading into battle with this ancient beast by his side. The only downside to that is it could make him a little overpowered, but the hero will need all the help he can get to take down his father.

The Great Protector could be a key part of proceedings or a small addition to placate fans wanting to see Fin Fang Foom. Whatever the case may be, consider us seriously excited.

2. Shang-Chi's Superpowers

In the comics, Shang-Chi's mastery of chi means he's able to go head to head with even the most powerful superhuman opponents, and it seems fair to say this version of the hero will be equally as formidable. After all, he may be a badass martial artist, but he's going to need more than just incredible fighting skills to be able to hang with Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

If this glimpse at what appears to be the movie's final battle is any indication, Shang-Chi is going to develop superpowers of his own that mean he can go toe-to-toe with Wenwu and the Ten Rings.

Seeing how his abilities develop promises to be one of the best parts of this movie, and by the time those credits roll, he could quite easily be one of the MCU's biggest badasses. That's definitely the right direction to take things in, and the visuals we see in this battle look awesome.

1. Abomination vs. Wong

Well, if Marvel Studios wanted to get us all talking about Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, this was the way to do it. In that fight tournament, we see a familiar face from the past make his return: The Incredible Hulk's Abomination. Played by Tim Roth (who will reprise the role in She-Hulk), it seems the bad guy escaped S.H.I.E.L.D. custody and has received a makeover.

We're not expecting that to be explained in any way - look how many times The Hulk has changed and evolved - but bringing Abomination more in line with the comic books was a smart move. This may be a fleeting glimpse, but he looks amazing, and we can't wait to see how this sets up his MCU future.

Interestingly, it seems he's fighting Doctor Strange's closest ally, Wong. Benedict Wong was spotted in Australia alongside Simu Liu last year, so this does make sense, and leaves us to wonder when this story takes place. If it's between the events of Infinity War and Endgame, it's possible Wong is trying to retrieve the Ten Rings to keep the cosmos safe in the absence of the Sorcerer Supreme.

@Cap1 - yeah the cinematography does not stand out apart from any other addition to the MCU. Dune, for instance, has noticeable cinematography. This just looks like another MCU film.
