Fans Choose Black Adam or Captain Marvel

A month ago Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson charged MTV readers with the hefty responsibility of choosing which role he would play in the planned Shazam! movie. The fans were vocal, and the choice has been made. Take the jump to see which side The Rock will come down on, black or red?
“I sayeth Black Adam as well,” he enthusiastically pronounced. “I love that. I love that fans were so vocal.”

These were the words spoken by Johnson when he sat back down with MTV. The crowds had been vocal on the MTV Movies Blog site, and apparently they didn’t want to see the good side of Johnson.

“I’m meeting with Pete Segal tonight [November 1] and we’re going to talk about it,” Johnson said to the site. The choice was, apparently, always Johnson’s to make, but who he would choose he left up to the fans.

Whether anyone has signed contracts, I’m unsure. IESB report that he has got the roll, but I’d prefer to wait for announcement of a deal being shook on before I jump to any conclusions.

For those of you unsure of Black Adam however, here’s a brief rundown thanks to our good friends over at Wikipedia.

Black Adam is a fictional comic book character whose morally ambiguous nature has his character fall between the lines of heroism and villainy; as a result, he has associated himself with both superheroes and supervillains at different times.

Originally called Teth-Adam (or Mighty Adam) in ancient Egypt, Black Adam was a previous appointee of the wizard Shazam, but soon used his power for his own corrupt ends, which forced the wizard to punish him. Generally, that punishment was to remove Adam from that time, only to appear in modern times to challenge Shazam's current appointee, Billy Batson, in his Captain Marvel form.

Captain Marvel’s more recent forays in to the DC universe appeal to many readers, and bode well for a decent movie. Black Adam’s large rolls within the massively popular 52 series last year and subsequent involvement in various crossovers give lots of room for Johnson to make the roll his own.
