BOX OFFICE: SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR Kicks Off Run With Only $475,000

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For kicked off its North American run with less than half a million dollars yesterday evening, and should finish at #2. However, it still faces stiff competition from Guardians of the Galaxy and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez's Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is set to finish behind soppy teen flick If I Stay this weekend after a disappointing $475,000 debut yesterday evening. The Sin City sequel comes nine years after the first movie, and while that one did some solid numbers with a $29.1 million debut, this follow-up will likely finish somewhere in the mid-teens. As of right now, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For looks set to battle it out with football drama When the Game Stands Tall for #2, but depending on how things pan out, both of those movies could face some serious competition from Marvel and James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy and the Michael Bay produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, now in their third and fourth weeks, respectively. Are you planning on seeing Sin City: A Dame to Kill For this weekend?

yossarian - 8/22/2014, 8:55 AM
Is that bad?
JAC - 8/22/2014, 8:57 AM
That's what happens when you wait 8 years to release a sequel. I heard it's pretty shitty, so I'll just stay home.

Bl00dwerK - 8/22/2014, 9:20 AM

Mercwitham0uth - 8/22/2014, 9:21 AM
Lady Gaga as a misplaced horse in a diner.
Bekss - 8/22/2014, 9:22 AM
I can see Alien's article headline for the weekend.

"Sin City makes more in it's first weekend than GotG in it's fourth, GotG officiallly underperforming"
Ranger14 - 8/22/2014, 9:23 AM
This style of film appeals to a very small demogrpahic, in which the core is comic book fans. Being R-rated also limits the audience. The low numbers don't surprise me.
DCGuy - 8/22/2014, 9:23 AM
Eva green is ugly

and Brolin is not a box office draw
Alien - 8/22/2014, 9:24 AM
@Bekss, y'know it.

EhMaybeSays - 8/22/2014, 9:27 AM
This was a mediocre film.
Nomis - 8/22/2014, 9:33 AM
@ DCGuy - 7 books of collected stories.

the Hard goodbye , A Dame to kill For, The Big Fat kill, That Yellow Bastard, Family Values, Booze, Broads and Bullets, and Hell and Back.
blackandyellow - 8/22/2014, 9:33 AM
I'm dedicating the rest of the work day to fantasy football research.
DCGuy - 8/22/2014, 9:37 AM
@Nomis so only 2 books have been covered.
yossarian - 8/22/2014, 9:40 AM
I'm dedicating the rest of the work day to Jack Daniels research.
MrBlackJack - 8/22/2014, 9:40 AM
Only two books covered in nine years...
JoeMomma29 - 8/22/2014, 9:42 AM
@ BlackandYellow

Well I need to because my boys are lucky to even go 8-8 this year so I might as well put together some winning team.

On a side note I cannot believe my Cowboys are worth 3.5 billion and have nothing to show for it since the mid 90s!
Nomis - 8/22/2014, 9:45 AM
@ DCGuy - No, they have used more than one book for the the first movie.

The first movie is the hard Goodbye, The Big Fat Kill, And That Yellow Bastard .
Nomis - 8/22/2014, 9:47 AM
And the opening and closing of the film are based on the short story "The Customer is Always Right" from Booze, Broads & Bullets.
cipher - 8/22/2014, 9:47 AM
Yeah. First movie had a few books. I think the correct chronology was: That Yellow Bastard, The Big Fat Kill, and The Hard Goodbye.
cipher - 8/22/2014, 9:47 AM
That too.
cipher - 8/22/2014, 9:47 AM
blackandyellow - 8/22/2014, 9:48 AM
LMAO Joe. After last night's pitiful performance by the Steelers offense and defense I'm not feeling great about the season. Fantasy will be the only chance I have of enjoying the season.
JoeMomma29 - 8/22/2014, 9:48 AM
Nomis is like the comicbook, graphic novel historian on this site!
Ryguy88 - 8/22/2014, 9:52 AM
I went to a midnight (9 pm) show last night, the theatre wasn't even half full....or half empty?

Anyways, the movie was decent, a collection of amusing scenes. Levitt was really good, Eva Green was way too hot and naked for 75% of here scenes!
Ryguy88 - 8/22/2014, 9:53 AM
Blackandyellow, my buddy is dragging me to Pittsburgh next week to catch a Pirates game, is there any place in particular we should go afterwards?
JamesMan - 8/22/2014, 9:54 AM
People outside of teen girls are going to see If I Stay? I watched the trailer and purposely had to go out of my way to wipe it from memory, looks like utter crap.
