Robert Rodriguez Says Sin City 2 Financing Is Complete But the Script is Not

Robert Rodriguez Says <i>Sin City 2</i> Financing Is Complete But the Script is Not

While promoting his new Spy Kids movie, the director gives an update on the status of Sin City 2 and Machete 2.

RR: Sin City 2 is going good, we’re just finishing the script for that, we already got the money. We have everything we need so we can just start shooting as soon as we get the pages. And it’s the same thing for Machete 2. We’ve already got the budget, just waiting for the script. As soon as we’re finished writing we get to start the shoot.

Earlier this month Robert informed the audience at Comic-Con that the sequel could start filming as early as the end of this year. This latest statement from Robert validates that exciting possibility. He also said that Sin City 2 would feature three stories from Frank Miller. He announced two of the stories, "A Dame to Kill For," the other is called "The Long Bad Night," which is an original story. The third story remains a secret for now, but it also will be an original story.

I'm glad we'll have a few original stories from the great Frank Miller, but lets focus on "A Dame to Kill For." If you are a fan of the Sin City graphic novels then you'll be familiar with this tale. It was the second story in the Sin City series. Might I add one of Miller's best pieces. If you aren't familiar with the comic series, but you like the movie then your in for a treat. The story has many of the characters from the first film. The Clive Owen character of Dwight is the main protagonist, but you'll also see: Marv (Mickey Rourke), Gail (Rosario Dawson), Manute (Michael Clarke Duncan) and Miho (Devon Aoki).

Plot - "A Dame to Kill For" follows Dwight who was played by Clive Owen in the movie. He is a lonely guy trying to make it from day to day without losing it. He has a history of snap violent behaviour as most people are in Sin City.

Dwight is trying to make the best out of his cards till an old love interest walks in. Eva, A man eating calculating woman who married into wealth and still wants more.

Eva talks to Dwight and asks for help telling him of the horrors she has lived with while living with her husband and Manute who was played by Michael Clarke Duncan in the movie. -

I wonder if Clive Owen and Michael Clarke Duncan will reprise their roles for the sequel. I hope so!

Hm, does that mean it's entirely about this character?
Cuz the best part of the first was the different stories, I love that film.

meh...didnt really like machete all that much doesnt really warrent a sequel (you know a movie isnt all that if you like the supporting cast more than the actual main character.
HOWEVER cant wait for sin city 2 ! also: IT better have at least most of the original cast

What do they mean the script is not done?!
The Sin City graphic novels ARE the script!
Theses movies pride themselves on being direct translations of the books, just get a pair of scissors and some tape and your done!

Marv was in the graphic novel, so I think we can expect Micky Rourke back in his prosthetic's once again.

I don't need a sequel, I mean I will watch it no doubt, but I find it pointless. As for them making a sequel, I'm calling bullshit on this getting made anytime soon. Sure Rodriguez "announced" it a SDCC, but he has filled our heads with falsehoods about this getting made for too long for me to take him seriously about it.

wasnt this movie ment to be made years ago but they were waiting for Angelina Jolie to pop out a baby, then when the baby poped she wasnt interested anymore?
so then how come the script isnt done?
charlieboymufc - 8/9/2011, 2:58 AM

I think Rourke should do 'Sin City 2.' The first one practically resurrected his career. He may have not have got the role in the 'Wrestler' had it not been for the role of Marv.

Does Machete take place in the Spy Kids universe? I always wondered how their uncle got that name.
yeoldeemoney - 8/9/2011, 5:18 AM
Too little too late Rodriguez. Should have started this sooner instead of Spy Kids 10 and the failed Barbarella remake.
Cross - 8/9/2011, 5:28 AM
Why would you make Sin City 2, rodriguez? Just go and make another shitfest like Spy kids or Machete. It's 2011 for god's sake and he's still all talk.
marvel72 - 8/9/2011, 5:43 AM
yes this needs to be made as soon as,the first film is my favorite non marvel or dc film.
l0rdleg0las - 8/9/2011, 6:44 AM
what the hell work needs to be done on the script? the storyboards and scripts are done already. just pick up a copy of A Dame to Kill For and whichever other stories will be used and film the shit Rodriguez!
nuck82 - 8/9/2011, 6:49 AM
idk, yes id love one, but will a new one be any good?
DarkTalbot13 - 8/9/2011, 8:32 AM
Why am I not excited for this anymore. Probably because 7 years have went by. This movie should of been made 4 years ago. Instead we got The Spirit........

if anybody actually read the comic they know that clive owens's character Dwight gets plastic surgrey in the comic. A Dame to Kill For takes place before the story of Dwight killing the cop and its shows how Manute got his fake gold eye....I hope they keep it true to the comic
