Dunejedi - 9/27/2013, 12:48 PM
@Yoss Woof. There's nothing like a nice pair of legs that grow into a fine ass.
CaptainObvious - 9/27/2013, 12:48 PM
@McGee It's the best and only good Spawn adaptation made. You can probably find the complete series on Youtube or jusy buy the entire boxset on Amazon.

I also enjoyed this movie, not sure what the hate is about. I was pretty young when it came out so maybe it doesn't stand the test of time, but most movies don't.
JoeMomma29 - 9/27/2013, 12:55 PM
@ TheApproach

The movie does have some good moments but all the other moments, well it is bad.
DioFoRio - 9/27/2013, 12:56 PM
@Dunjedi...tell that to my bodygarden in the back yard...shhhhhhh..don't tell my meds where I'm hiding.
DioFoRio - 9/27/2013, 12:57 PM
this movie reminded me of Prom night...I could get it up just couldn't get it in.
SoundWave - 9/27/2013, 1:06 PM

Looks like this came from a 10 year old's Deviant art page. No wonder the movie sucked.
Niklander - 9/27/2013, 1:33 PM

There are technical reasons why Spawn doesn't work in a film. Spawn is action entertainment and it can only work with intense and building drama.
A great example of what makes a great action film work is Die Hard. In that film McClain has to deal with a group of well trained killers, he is routinely hurt which makes and constantly reminds us of the point that this guy is not some invincible movie hero and he can die. His life is on the line from the point the shooting begins to the point the last bad guy dies. He also has to keep his ID a secret to protect his wife who is a captive of the badguys.
The explosions and action have meaning only because of the drama of McClain's situation.

In Spawn the protagonist dies at the start of the film. So you can't have drama from his life being on the line. His only worry is for Wanda and Cyan but it can only be a problem if someone decides to go after them which happens with 10 minutes left in the film.

I think that lack of drama not only hurt the film but I think it eventually hurt the comic. Spawn is action entertainment and action must have drama to be intense and effective. When the protagonist has already lost everything and returns as nearly invincible the story is greatly handicapped.
I'm not sure what McFarlane has in the works for a new Spawn but if he wants it to succeed he really needs to re-imagine the premise. Spawn's potential for drama is even more impaired than Superman's drama because very rarely would Spawn be at risk and he already lost it all.
McFarlane can write a film full of the coolest Spawn moments he can imagine but without that core of drama none of it matters.

Nice. I've always wanted to see more use of his cape, though. Very cool concept art.
DZ123 - 9/27/2013, 2:52 PM
Man, why didn't the film look that good?
CptHero - 9/27/2013, 3:51 PM
I don't care what anyone says, I loved that movie. Sure, it might have had something to do with that fact that I saw it when I was a kid but I still had a blast with it

This is movie that could use a reboot

Coolest. ...Spawn

Michael Jai White was such a good choice for the role. I just wish they had put a better script behind him.

And y'know, made the film "R".
FoxForce5 - 9/27/2013, 5:01 PM
@ yingyangpalms: Spot on, Mate!!! I don't have much left to say about it - you freaking nailed it. Nice work!

Gene Siskel gave the film a vary justified review and poor Roger Ebert could not have been more off. Also, there's no excuse for the fact that the effects we're pretty god awful!!!

Michael Jai White is always awesome but still couldn't polish this turd. At least we have Black Dynamite to fall back on.

AlexDeLarge87 - 9/28/2013, 1:06 AM
The film was bad but it had its moments. The special effects were to me the think that kept me interested.

Bring on the new movie.

AUSSYACE - 9/28/2013, 8:11 PM
