Jamie Foxx Explains Excitement For ‘Electro’ Role In THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Sequel

Hours after confirmation of the Django Unchained actor's inclusion in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man sequel, Jamie Foxx has explained why Electro will be an exciting villain to play. Check it out!

In addition to today's earlier announcement that Chronicle actor Dane DeHaan officially signed on for the sequel's ‘Harry Osborn,’ director Marc Webb also announced that Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx will definitely play ‘Electro,’ the super-villain of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. And speaking with Entertainment Tonight just hours after Sony's press release, Foxx explained:

“Electro is a great character! I met with the director, Mark Webb, I met with Andrew Garfield, and we talked,” the Django Unchained actor continued. “I think Electro will be an exciting character to play because he's a … genius electrician-type person, and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world, and the next thing you know he turns it on.”

The next installment of The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field, Dane DeHaan, Jamie Foxx and Shailene Woodley. The screenplay is by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt. The film will be directed by Marc Webb and produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. The untitled new film in the Spider-Man saga is set for release in 3D on May 2, 2014. Production will begin in early 2013 in New York.

They better change Electro's costume. The one from the comics makes him look like a basketball mascot.
HavocPrime - 12/3/2012, 3:37 PM
Cool, so who is the guy in the end credits then?
Platinum - 12/3/2012, 3:40 PM
I think they're trying to catch lightning in a bottle by casting unlikely actors to play their villains the same way the dark knight series did.
Spidey91 - 12/3/2012, 3:42 PM
I'm assuming they're going with the Ultimate version of Electro as far as looks go,which is fine by me,the classic origin mixed with the Ultimate aesthetic.

oh,and I hope this doesn't turn into another "Heimdall can't be black" argument,'cause that sh*t is retarded,Jamie Foxx is an Academy Award winning actor, his casting as a villain (one of my favorite Spidey villains) in a superhero movie is full of win.
TheAbomination - 12/3/2012, 3:44 PM
I... ...still have my doubts about this.
JR - 12/3/2012, 3:44 PM
"genius electrician-type person"
DRMidNite - 12/3/2012, 3:46 PM
Stupid mistake. It'll cost 'em.
UrbanKnight - 12/3/2012, 3:46 PM

I have a really bad racist joke about electricity, water, swimming, and black people that I'm holding back.
Wildaniel - 12/3/2012, 3:48 PM
Jamie Foxx as Electro is a horrible idea!
jessepostal - 12/3/2012, 3:48 PM
Did i miss the big confirmation article???? or is this it? i cant picture how there gonna play this out
jimpinto24 - 12/3/2012, 3:53 PM
HORRIBLE CASTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TheMightyTroy - 12/3/2012, 3:55 PM
Thats awesome! Excited to see what he can do with the character!!

also, so glad that theyre doing another Spidey villain that hasnt been portrayed on screen yet.

bring on TASM2 woo!
OdinsBeard - 12/3/2012, 3:57 PM
Forget Jamie foxx... I'm just disappointed electro is the main villain. Unless they're building to the sinister 6 this is a serious waste. Lizard and Electro both getting a movie dedicated to them? I hope the gamble pays off and you get ur "harry potter" out of this Sony... but u better start cranking these movies out much faster...
HAQ - 12/3/2012, 3:57 PM
Wonder how they'll pull him off...
DrHorrible - 12/3/2012, 3:58 PM
I'd like to see Electro look something like this:

Honestly, I can't wait to see what Foxx brings to the table. I don't care about his race. As long as he plays the character well (which he most likely will), I couldn't get two shits what color he is.

By the way, stop with the "supposed to be funny" In Living Color Photoshop crap. That was 20 years ago. He's proven himself to be a great actor. Seriously, it's just getting ridiculous and tired now.
armagedom - 12/3/2012, 3:59 PM
i don't see him as electro
Funsize - 12/3/2012, 4:00 PM
The first movie wasnt even that good.
Banner123 - 12/3/2012, 4:01 PM
Animated Gifs
AztecRainGod - 12/3/2012, 4:03 PM
Just as long as they dont put that Lame Ass original costume on him.
shamo - 12/3/2012, 4:08 PM
can't wait. i hope this is based on the more recent Electro Arc in brand new day where the people rally behind him as a blue collar hero of sorts. and from the sound of it (gets the short end of the stick) that might be what their going for.
Mego - 12/3/2012, 4:08 PM
This guys going to be a comedian from 'In Living Color' playing a bad guy in a CBM. Havent seen that since Batman Gay Forever.

NeoBaggins - 12/3/2012, 4:10 PM
So they're basically trying to make each film worst than the last. They are on the right path. Foxx is a good actor, but all I see for him in this villain role is cheese and corn. Cheese Popcorn.

They just cast the biggest name within their budget and now they want to pass it off as a unique choice.

This is a bizzaro world Spider-man series.
spidersponge - 12/3/2012, 4:11 PM
I hounestly don't see what would compell them to cast a black man as a white character when there are so many white actors better suited for the role. Even if they decide to go the pure energy route where his "skin" is blue or whatever this is still horrible casting. But I suppose this is a good thing! The more Sony mixes things up with this trilogy the closer to the source material Marvel can stay when they get the rights back! Fingers crossed they go the Ultimate Green Goblin route!
Thegeekygurl - 12/3/2012, 4:14 PM
Jamie Foxx is playing a Bad-Guy???
Oh, its another Marc Webb 'Not So Amazing Spider-Man'.

A Not Amazing Spider-Man needs a Not Very Threatening Villain. It fits. It fits!
venkman9993592 - 12/3/2012, 4:15 PM
ok good, nobody has said...wait for it...wtf is this? STATIC SHOCK or BLACK LIGHTNING?!
Minato - 12/3/2012, 4:16 PM
Foxx will bring his A game and he is a terrific entertainer. I hope they breath life into Electro with the script cause that could be the only thing that can hold him back. I never pictured him in any CBM but he is more than capable.
Spidey91 - 12/3/2012, 4:16 PM
people are ok with european/russian Bane but no black Electro? ok then.
iJackSparrow - 12/3/2012, 4:16 PM
I came to realize that The Amazing Spider-Man is as much rewatchable as The Avengers, all these news for TASM is getting me pumped as [frick], bring it Webb and cast!!!!
Minato - 12/3/2012, 4:16 PM
WTF is this? Black Lightning or Static Shock?
Minato - 12/3/2012, 4:18 PM
BTW when I clicked on the picture I was anticipating a pic of Wanda with a Electro mask. Im glad I was not disappointed.
Jollem - 12/3/2012, 4:18 PM
DrHorrible - 12/3/2012, 4:20 PM
I can't wait for the morons on this site to eat their words in regards to Foxx as Electro, just like they have regarding countless other things on this site.
Minato - 12/3/2012, 4:20 PM
I know right, I am also tired of the sympathetic villain. Loki is the best one though
ThunderKat - 12/3/2012, 4:21 PM
I'm not certain he understands the character. That said, it won't take much to make a better villain than Marc Webb's Lizard! He is on my list of awful: somewhere in the top five.
Let's see, in no particular order: Arnold as Mr. Freeze, Uma's Ivy, Jone's Two-Face, Carrey's Riddler, and Italian Red Skull. If not for the last one, "Nip/Tuck" Dr. doom would be there.
TheRedSkull - 12/3/2012, 4:24 PM
I hope they go with some form of the original suit, F the ultimate version, it's lame
