Looks Like Irrfan Khan Will NOT Be Playing Proto-Goblin In <i>Spider-Man</i> Reboot!

The actor has revealed that he was no keen on joining the cast of Spider-Man and that the only way he could be convinced was by the promise that he would not play a masked villain or creature of any kind...

Although we already know that the Bollywood star will be playing Nels Van Adder, it has also been widely speculated that this meant he'd be playing little known villain, Proto-Goblin. Well, the following excerpt from an interview he did with Indian Express seems to debunk any possibility that we'll see him transform into the monsterous villain at any point in the upcoming movie!

While he is looking forward to Spiderman, the 48-year-old confesses, that initially he wasn’t keen on the project. "I didn’t want to be part of this violent American fantasy. But both my sons were excited and kept insisting that I take it up." But the intricacy and freshness of the script finally won. Even then, Irrfan placed one condition before Webber — he didn’t want to be a masked villain or become another creature. Spiderman’s schedule in Los Angeles will follow his March shoot for Life of Pi in Taiwan.

What do you guys think about this? I personally am extremely relieved! Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place though. The currently untitled Spider-Man reboot is set to be released in 3D on July 3, 2012!

LucasMend - 2/5/2011, 5:21 PM
"violent American fantasy". pfft. If he thinks that violent he should watch a Tarantino movie. lol
Good, well that Goblin looks horrible anyway.
Nice find dude.

Teois42 - 2/5/2011, 5:22 PM
@Sexfoodcomics, not just spider-man but anything violent. namely superheros and such.
patriautism - 2/5/2011, 5:23 PM
Is the script really that good? Whoever leaked the Thor script should leak this one.

Maybe he just wanted to star in Indian Spider-Man?
Duhdaduh - 2/5/2011, 5:24 PM
yo pal, you have the oppurtunity to be in a spiderman movie...you dont set the conditions, you take what you can get. idiot
comicbookjerk - 2/5/2011, 5:26 PM
SamHell - 2/5/2011, 5:27 PM
give me the [frick]in role
PaulRom - 2/5/2011, 5:28 PM
"violent AMERICAN fantasy"? I smell racism.
And does this mean that Lizard will be the only villain in the first installment? Meh.
Sto0pidpenguinpro - 2/5/2011, 5:28 PM
"I didn’t want to be part of this violent American fantasy" What a [frick]ing loser.
soda9 - 2/5/2011, 5:30 PM
I hope the Proto Goblin is still in this becuz it will bring the goblin story w/ the goblin formula
Ryden - 2/5/2011, 5:32 PM
Wow what a dick. "Violent American Fantasy" is he serious? I mean I'm a liberal person but that guy's just a pussy.
BruceWayneNewton - 2/5/2011, 5:32 PM
Violent American fantasy?? Shut up and stick to some other cheesy Bollywood crap, homo.
RorMachine - 2/5/2011, 5:34 PM
Not too surprised, but also curious as to why they brought him in in the first place? Anyway, guess he'l just be a secondary character. Nice find dude.
patriautism - 2/5/2011, 5:34 PM
I just have one thing to ask him...

How can she slap?!
ElBicho - 2/5/2011, 5:35 PM
Doesn't rule out CGI...

ThreeBigTacos - 2/5/2011, 5:43 PM
This should be a good thing, this way if they ever include Green Goblin, the series/triology won't have two different Goblin villains. (cough cough Raimi cough)
Cmon lets leak the script!!
TheSchemer - 2/5/2011, 5:45 PM
Man, you'd think they would hire someone who isn't so against the idea of super heroes. My only thing is if he's a scientist, then why don't they just give his character another name, instead of using someone who turns into protogoblin
patriautism - 2/5/2011, 5:49 PM
@Intruder It could be a smokescreen, but it could just be what it says.
He could just be playing Ray cooper, Carlie Cooper's father who was in the police force with Captain Stacy.

I really do hope Osborn is it.
Norman Osborn = Gary Sinise
Exiles - 2/5/2011, 5:53 PM
yeah garry sinise for norman FTW if not then jason isaacs

@Intruder yeah its possible that its a smoke screen but I doubt it Ray Cooper was friends George Stacy and there daughters were friends so who knows we might see Carlie Cooper
croniccris - 2/5/2011, 5:55 PM
thanos83 - 2/5/2011, 5:58 PM
Damn, sinise would be great if he was only taller lol, truth be told in his heyday around the time of Forrest gump,i would have loved for him 2 play wolverine,he would have had 2 get on the Hollywood "roid" program pronto

my personal pick is Brian Cranston

p.s. and still no word on Anton yelchin as Harry osborn
AlexDeLarge87 - 2/5/2011, 6:16 PM
IAIN GLEN AS NORMAN OSBORN!:) He is very underrated actor and would be perfect as that calculating mastermind behind the curtains.

Dusk - 2/5/2011, 6:32 PM
Who the [frick] is this guy anyway?
ElBicho - 2/5/2011, 6:45 PM

That's C. Thomas Howell!

Who the heck is C. Michael Hall?
astromerc - 2/5/2011, 6:52 PM
What a dick! That guy needs to go fly a dickship.
EddieOsborn - 2/5/2011, 7:08 PM
This is actually good news guys, considering that they'll first develop his character as Nels Van Adder and then becomes Proto-Goblin
ElBicho - 2/5/2011, 7:08 PM

If you're casting Michael C. Hall as Daredevil, no worries my friend.
theguywhomayknow - 2/5/2011, 7:14 PM
Khan will be a great villain, simply because he is such a great actor and he does, indeed, choose his projects wisely.
RyanTcone - 2/5/2011, 7:35 PM
Ironic that a guy who looks like he was involved in 9/11 makes a comment on American Violence.
siddhant1138 - 2/5/2011, 8:02 PM
RyanTcone, 9/11 was carried out by a radical group from the middle east, Khan is from India. Look it up, theres a BIG difference.

As someone from India, I must say there's alot of uneccessary animosity towards us on this thread. No, I don't agree with his comments, nor am I a Bollywood fan, but take it easy guys....

Anyway, im excited for the movie regardless
Jer3miah - 2/5/2011, 9:00 PM
Violent American Fantasy? Heh, he sounds Anti-American. I'm not against that, but he does need to understand that the whole world is full of shit, not just America, lol. Don't be Anti-American; be Anti-Human. Ha ha heh.
SFCamerica - 2/5/2011, 9:02 PM
Relax people, he started it by trashing AMERICA!! As soon as this douche started making demands I would make sure to tell him "don't let the door hit'cha where your 8 armed god split'cha!!" However, it was a pretty stupid comment, but does everyone need to be the PC police?
thesymbiote - 2/5/2011, 9:23 PM

wow. 8 armed god? could you be more ignorant? His name is Irrfan Khan. Thats a muslim. Not a hindu.

And dont bring religion into anything. Then you're the [frick]ing douche.

And people. Take it the [frick] easy. So what if he said that? The guy is a [frick]ing good actor and will do his job well. Get over it people.

Its honestly downright disgusting how much hate there is to this movie. Without even watching a trailer or seeing it in motion like its meant to be.

I cant believe how many people here are immature.
HULK2099 - 2/5/2011, 9:27 PM
