POLL: What Do You Think Of The New SPIDER-MAN Costume?

POLL: What Do You Think Of The New SPIDER-MAN Costume?

We've seen both an official image of the costume from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 AND a bunch of paparazzi pictures taken during filming in New York, so opinions about the redesigned suit are coming in thick and fast...here's your chance to cast your votes on it!

One of the biggest complaints about the costume used in The Amazing Spider-Man was that it simply wasn't faithful enough to the one seen in the comic books. Well, as we have now seen, the one that Andrew Garfield will don in the sequel looks like it was torn straight out of the pages of the comic books. However, it hasn't been met with a completely positive reaction, with many fans nitpicking even the most minor of details. Regardless, here is your chance to cast your vote on what YOU think of the suit. Be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

In The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson
Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon/Electro
Sally Fields as Aunt May

RELEASE DATE: May 2nd, 2014.

Definitely better but looks too similar to the raimi version
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 2/27/2013, 11:41 AM
lmbo, here i was thinking polls were gone. the suit [frick]ing rocks ^_^
MatchesMalone - 2/27/2013, 11:42 AM
Very close to the Raimi suit, but that's a good thing. The '02 suit is still one of the most faithful adaptations of a superhero costume from page to screen.
KalElOdinson - 2/27/2013, 11:43 AM
Im not sure who's bitchin about the costume because its spot on. You can't make everyone happy I guess.
MisterBabadook - 2/27/2013, 11:47 AM
The only thing I like are the eyes. Seeing that picture of him hanging, I don't really like the old feel much anymore. Hate to say it, but it looks too linear now I guess. There's no pleasing me.
TheDude - 2/27/2013, 11:51 AM
The webbing of the suit looks raised in the promo pic but very flat in the street pics. I'm liking the non raised webs better
GUNSMITH - 2/27/2013, 11:52 AM
Sanderman - 2/27/2013, 11:56 AM
Quit saying it looks too similar to the Raimi version. No it doesn't! It looks too similar to the comics version because that's what its [frick]ing based off of!

Looks like actual suit = complain it looks too similar to Raimi version

Go with a different look (TASM) = complain it looks nothing like the orginal suit

I just don't get people on here, I really don't
GUNSMITH - 2/27/2013, 11:56 AM
KNIGHT3000 - 2/27/2013, 11:57 AM
Amazing! This is the Spider-Man suit I've been waiting to see, lets just hope the next movie doesn't SUCK A$$ like the last 1
NebulaFields - 2/27/2013, 11:58 AM
My only problem with it is the blue is too dark, too muted. Needs to be a few shades lighter and the silver web-lining, that has to be black. It only looks black in certain lighting, meh.
jimoakley666 - 2/27/2013, 12:01 PM
Don't go putting words in my mouth like "This is the Spider-Man suit I've been waiting to see". But it is amazing. Really liked the one from Amazing Spider-Man, but the eyes on this one are ace.
shamo - 2/27/2013, 12:02 PM
looks great. preferred the previous suit though.
AlexDeLarge87 - 2/27/2013, 12:07 PM
Pure gold!:)
NeoBaggins - 2/27/2013, 12:10 PM
He wanted to be able to turn his head so Raimi got him anew suit. And it's [frick]ing awesome- like good pie really.
MatchesMalone - 2/27/2013, 12:13 PM
Lol @ tea! That poor girl should have never arrived on set with no make-up.
JDUKE25 - 2/27/2013, 12:19 PM

CaptainObvious - 2/27/2013, 12:28 PM
I look at this new suit and the suit from TASM makes me roll my eyes in comparison. This one really spoiled me and I like that.
marvel72 - 2/27/2013, 12:35 PM
i love the costume,if they had used it in the first movie it would of made that better then it was.
PaulRom - 2/27/2013, 12:40 PM
Too similar to the Raimi suit, but it's growing on me. Love that it's the most comic influenced Spidey costume to date.
FOOM - 2/27/2013, 12:51 PM
I'm inclined to always hate anything Mark Webb has to do with Spider Man but I can't this time. The suit looks great.
Visualiza - 2/27/2013, 1:00 PM
Personally, and this is among the only times I'll say something like this, but I can't imagine how someone can be a genuine Spider-Man fan and not like how this costume has turned out. As much as I hate how they butchered the first movie, this is a very welcome step in the right direction.
Masterkalel - 2/27/2013, 1:01 PM
If the movie is as improved as the costume, I will be a very happy man!
superotherside - 2/27/2013, 1:17 PM
This is a great costume, but it is too simular honestly to the orignal movies IMO. Raised webbing again? Seriously?

Still it looks really great, especially compared to the one they did have...

Doubt we'll ever get a costume that actually looks like he made it himself. LOL but that's ok... I guess...
DanteSparda - 2/27/2013, 1:25 PM
Better than any other live action Spidey costume, if it looks more similar to the Raimi version is because overall it's more similar to the comic book version.
iJackSparrow - 2/27/2013, 1:35 PM
In TASM, they made the first costume believable, something that a genius kid could pull it off - plus the usual Hollywood magic. Now this costume... this costume is perfection. I'll make chorus to those saying that it's the best looking live action Spider-Man ever had. Andrew Garfield already looked like Spider-Man brought to life in the first one, I can't wait to watch the teaser for this bad boy, hopefully attached to Man of Steel, The Wolverine, Kick Ass 2 or Thor: Dark World.
NoJobBOB - 2/27/2013, 1:45 PM
Love the new suit.
SamHell - 2/27/2013, 1:47 PM
From the neck up it looks better, but Ill reserve judgement until I see the whole thing. Make sense? I thought so.
CaptainObvious - 2/27/2013, 2:46 PM
@iJackSparrow- The problem with that is people, even teenagers, can make extraordinary things with clothing that look like something out of a Hollywood picture. It's not unrealistic for a teenager to make something like what we're seeing here. There is also another thing called suspension of disbelief. We can believe that Peter Parker would be able to creat a suit of this caliber. On top of that, nobody cares if it is possible for Peter to make a supehero costume or not and even if anybody did care, it would still be a minor nitpick.
LoudLon - 2/27/2013, 2:57 PM
Hard to say. All we've seen of it so far is the mask, from side-angles.

Reserving judgment 'til I see the whole thing.
NightForce - 2/27/2013, 3:13 PM
This costume is literally the PERFECT Spider-Man costume! Even if you didn't like the first movie, if your a Spider-Man, how can you not like this costume. And if you want something to look like a teenager could make it, he'd be in sweatpants and a shirt with a spider drawn on it and a ski mask.
GeekyCheekyChic - 2/27/2013, 3:43 PM
my friend was working background Monday when they filmed in midtown and said the suit was awesome and I trust her judgement...so thumbs up!
XavierLehnsherr - 2/27/2013, 7:14 PM
thewolfx - 2/27/2013, 7:14 PM
Compared to that basketball shit storm this suit is the beez kneez
NeoBaggins - 2/27/2013, 9:51 PM
The people spoke and SONY didn't want to risk a poor turn out. Put him in the Raimi suit for the win- associating it with the box-office monster trilogy. Very smart business move. The suit makes a big difference. As terrible as the casting is and the inevitability of the film sucking ass, I may by a ticket for the suit alone.

Love the eyes.
fungusmonkey - 2/28/2013, 12:06 AM
I like the eyes, but that's about it. They had an excellent opportunity to take the "starter suit" from the first film and expand on it to make it more accurate to the comics, and instead they just completely ripped off the Raimi version, right down to that pointless brick texture on the fabric and the rubber latex webbing.

What really sucks though is that - even though a lot of people didn't like the style of the costume in TASM - the way it was designed picked up film lighting really well. The blues were almost black in the dark, but still had a great highlight that picked up ambient light. This new suit (and similarly Raimi's) must be a total pain to work with.

But it's not really about the costume, my problem is more with the type of decision-making involved that led to this suit. Where TASM had a couple appreciated nods to the Raimi series, TASM 2 is Webb and Sony's chance to really distance themselves from the prior series and finally deliver a solid Spider-Man film based on the comics. This seems like they're taking a step back from that and just trying to tie themselves even more to Raimi's failed franchise. I wish they had the creative "balls" (so to speak) to have given us a costume that was new and interesting, but also faithful to the comics. This one definitely improves on a lot of the problems with Raimi's suit (the muscles don't need to be as heavily airbrushed on there, there's no padded muscle suit underneath, the rubber latex webs are darker and not as thick) but it's still just improvements on a decade old costume. They could have really done something incredible with it, and they soft-balled it in there (probably to please all the fans that complained about the suit in the last film).

I don't want a Spidey franchise that is "safe" and "easy". I want them to make the brave choices and give fans the comic book movie they've always wished for.
megabatfan - 2/28/2013, 12:27 AM
Costume is fantastic! Raimi's was perfection. This takes it a notch higher because the webbing is black, and the eye's are even better.
My only gripe is that the lenses are way too white & looks cartoony in the set pics. I'm hoping that it won't look that way in the final cut.
megabatfan - 2/28/2013, 12:30 AM
Raimi's failed franchise? Two great Spider-man movies & one that was only critically panned but financially successful. You think the execs see that as a failure? They were going to make a part 4 in the Raimi universe until he pulled out. Fail you say?
KeithM - 2/28/2013, 3:32 AM
I gave the previous suit a lot of hate - because it sucked. Only fair to give them some praise with the new design - because it's looking beautiful so far. Only goes to show - if it ain't broke and all that.
KeithM - 2/28/2013, 3:53 AM
They removed the leg stripe and the silver slippers too right? Thought I saw a pic with his legs, but now I'm not so sure...

PS: Raimi's franchise didn't fail - it was enormously successful. They just broke it. Difference.
