THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2: Eddie Brock And The Enforcers Featured In Latest Daily Bugle Viral

An article written by Eddie Brock (a.k.a. Venom) has been published on The Daily Bugle viral website, and as well as confirming his presence in The Amazing Spider-Man movie-verse, it also tells the story of a battle between Spidey and classic villains The Enforcers.

What began as a mob shoot-out escalated into a full-blown superhuman slugfest when the vigilante known as Spider-Man appeared on the scene. An argument inside the Zero One Lounge turned ugly when reputed mob enforcer, “Fancy” Dan Brito, pulled a gun on rivals from the Manfredi crime family. As club-goers fled onto the streets of the Meatpacking District, Spider-Man dropped down out of the sky.

Not content to merely take the law into his own hands, bystanders claimed that Spider-Man mocked the thugs as he delivered a one-two punch that sent them soaring.

“It was hard to see from where I was hiding,” said witness Andrea Moore of Park Slope, “but I heard someone, I’m pretty sure it was Spider-Man, say, ‘I hope you’re not afraid of heights,’ and then one of those guys screamed as he landed on top of a fire escape.”

When pressed about any crimes she may have witnessed Spider-Man committing, Moore replied, “Crimes? It’s not a crime to round up stray dogs. What the hell are you talking about?”

Spider-Man disappeared as police arrived to find a dozen mobsters restrained with unmistakable webbing. Brito and his accomplices, Jackson “Montana” Brice and Raymond “The Ox” Bloch, spent the night in the 10TH Precinct holding cell. The NYPD has yet to announce what charges, if any, they plan to bring against the smack-talking vigilante.

Brito, led away in handcuffs, was overheard describing the encounter with the web-slinger: “Just when I thought I was out, he pulled me back in.”

This is yet another cool Easter egg for fans, but obviously far from confirmation that we'll see The Enforcers in The Amazing Spider-Man 2! Many fans have been speculating that the mention of Venom in the recently released trailer was an indication that Eddie Brock would be introduced into the movies in the same way as the Ultimate Universe, but this article instead confirms that this version works for The Daily Bugle (just like his 616 comic book counterpart).

Venom is definitely in this film. By the end of this film I don't think we'll just have saw the symbiote, we'll see Brock become it's host
TheRationalNerd - 12/12/2013, 1:05 PM

TheRationalNerd - 12/12/2013, 1:07 PM
Or perhaps the enforcers may get their own solo spin-off that would be pretty cool!
NinjaKickTheDamnRabbit - 12/12/2013, 1:10 PM
I'm sure Topher Grace has some free time on his hands to make a come back. Question is, who would make a good Eddie Brock? Tom Hardy?
thewonderer - 12/12/2013, 1:14 PM
How did Tom Hardy ruin a franchise?
JoJo1982 - 12/12/2013, 1:19 PM
They should have Spidey fight the sinister 6 in part 3 and at the end end it with the birth of Venom.

Have him fight venom in part 4
JoJo1982 - 12/12/2013, 1:19 PM
I'm ready for Sony to announce some spinoffs from this franchise
ATviciousvalenti9 - 12/12/2013, 1:22 PM
I guarantee Spider man will don black suit in this movie now...

Loving the viral advertising by TASM and DOFP. They've gotten that down really well.
JoJo1982 - 12/12/2013, 1:28 PM
I think Spidey is going to use the black suit to take down sinister six in Spidey 3
JoJo1982 - 12/12/2013, 1:28 PM
Or part 4
Indy - 12/12/2013, 1:33 PM
Eddie Brock!!!!! The Enforcers cool!!
lawndart - 12/12/2013, 1:34 PM
Black Cat would be a marketable off-shoot. Bad girl gone good. I can't really see any others. I'd love to see Kraven though based on the "Kraven's Last Hunt."
ZakkPL - 12/12/2013, 1:41 PM
forget about this movie(s), get the third done and then:

2017- Scorpion, Kraven
2019-Black Cat, Kraven
and then....

2021- Kraven's last hunt!

Fassbender as Kraven
Lostcause - 12/12/2013, 1:47 PM
With all the Venom fans and the lacklust of Spidy 3's Venom... Someone will do us right, by Venom in the near future. "Truth in Journalism." with Ryan Kwanten is great. They must do some spinoffs. The Spidy world is huge.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 12/12/2013, 1:52 PM
This is cool. One shots would be better, but cool advertising.
Lostcause - 12/12/2013, 1:53 PM
@ZakkPl I can see Fassbender doing Kraven, Bale would be better, long hair and the stache, but the perfect actor would be Jason Momoa. At least I think so.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 12/12/2013, 1:56 PM
Daniel Day Lewis as Kraven the Hunter. And folks saying sinister 6 in part 3 are crazy!!!! Don't do it Webb. Stick to your bigger plan. Part 4 is ok, but not 3. Don't listen to these fools wanting everything rushed and gift wrapped. Let spideys universe breath.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 12/12/2013, 2:01 PM
Also theses so called spin off will have to be super creative because spideys universe doesn't have too many spin off characters. Now if Sony wants to adapt characters on a low key connection as a one off film then fine. Silver sable is a great candidate. Flash Thompson as venom in spin off can be evaluated. Keep big bad Eddie Brock in the amazing spiderman. The real venom!
ZakkPL - 12/12/2013, 2:07 PM
no no, only fassbender can do justice to kraven, russian accent( he has great language skills) and this tragic power of the hunter/lost honor of aristocracy mix, all made in Batman Begines mood. i think that could be nolans/heath ledger Joker of Marvel related movies. whole movie-rain,black suit and mad kraven-epic!
JJJameson - 12/12/2013, 2:17 PM
The viral marketing for this has been the coolest for me since TDK's. Reading Brock's article while he is ranting at Spider-Man AND name dropping The Enforcerers.

Wow. Just wow. Bravo, Marc Webb. Bravo!!
ZakkPL - 12/12/2013, 2:18 PM
who said Garfield and Webb should be involved in those movies?;-)
duncboy - 12/12/2013, 2:21 PM
I'd love to see them take Venom and eventually go the route of Flash Gordon being Agent Venom. They should start with Eddie Brock though most def.
deamon - 12/12/2013, 2:25 PM
Hope this time Brock will be bigger than we saw him in SM3.
MercwithMouth - 12/12/2013, 2:26 PM
I think they're going to mix 616 and Ultimates with Venom. Maybe have Peter cost Eddie his job, and then Eddie will volunteer for the Venom project with Oscorp. Then he'll find out that Peter is Spidey and go insane going after Spidey for revenge.

Tom Hardy would be awesome as Brock, but I think they would be best to look to the MMA world for a Eddie Brock actor. He doesn't exactly need a subtle, nuanced performance. Just needs to be a bodybuilder type who can pull of bat-shit crazy.
MercwithMouth - 12/12/2013, 2:27 PM

Flash Gordon? How about Flesh Gordon? With Emporer Wang as his nemises!!!

Lol, just messin.

Lostcause - 12/12/2013, 3:09 PM

I though the same thing, but DDL, I don't think this kind of film is his bag, the guy live in Scottland with no power grid. Now he would really get into the part. My guess is he would spend the better part of a year in the bush of Africa just to get in to the role. He love period films. He was my first choice, but Momoa is huge and plays a "Wild Man" very well.
Fassbender, great choice, I dig it, but he has to many films on his plate. Assassin's Creed x3, Prometheus 2, More X-man films,Macbeth, and Genius. Most of those will be flming during TASM 3-4 filming times.
bigdannymac - 12/12/2013, 3:59 PM
What I'd like to know...

The original plan was to have the Oscorp tower shown in Avengers but they ran out of time to fit it in..

If the tower DID make it in, how would TASM explain how this massive Alien attack went down but Spiderman was MIA?

Also, will TASM2 make mention of what happened in the Avengers? Are the timelines going to differ?

Surely there must be some sort of plan between Sony and Marvel (who have a very good relationship) to explain this, esp if Spiderman truly is supposed to be part of Avengers 3

NovaCorpsFan - 12/12/2013, 4:01 PM
Only one person could play Eddie Brock.

@annaldominatrix you love to follow my comments I see ;) appreciate you being a fan. Oh here is a little tidbit for you.

In an interview with, Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb said, “There’s always been a plan to expand this universe. To make a series of films that were interrelated and that weren’t purely episodic. That there were certain ongoing stories that were going to play out over multiple films. So that’s always been in the works. There have been some early talks about the nature of those next two movies. It’s still too early to talk about too many of the details. If you pay attention to this film that’s coming out in May of next year, you may get a feeling and a sense of what’s to come in the future.”

When asked about the third and fourth Spider-Man movies, Marc Webb said, “There may be elements that expand outside of Spider-Man that could fulfill that fourth film.”

Venom!!!! ;)

TheRealRemyLebeau - 12/12/2013, 4:46 PM
AnnalDominatrix said this: "Marc Webb doesn't have a bigger plan you imbecile".

Oh my dear another tidbit.......... ;) Enjoy!

the film (and how they might extend into further sequels).

This second point is one that Webb has been talking about a lot lately, as some fanshave openly worried that the sequel willsuffer the same flaws as Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3.

In a different interview with Crave Online, Webb addressed the number of charactersin The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and explained how some of their cameo appearances that will set-up a bigger story for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 (and perhaps even The Amazing Spider-Man 4).

Reiterating some of what Webb told us, the director said that Rhino is just a minor character in The Amazing Spider-Man 2:

“I think the main obstacle, the main villain of this film is Electro. He is our primary focus and it’s somebody that has extraordinary, antagonist potential. The other thing is, it was sort of fun to tease out little bits and pieces and have references, for people who are hardcore fans and Rhino, I think, is a better example of that.

“Listen, it’s not the whole storyline. It’s not deeply integrated into the plot. He’snot distracting, I think he’s really elemental and fun to play around with and incredibly justified but it also allows, I think, hardcore fans a chance to see what we do with him, with that character in a way that has enough nuance to feel real but doesn’t distract from the film.”

As we’ve discussed in previous articles, Rhino isn’t the only character Webb plans to introduce for the series. Felicity Jones will possibly appear as Black Cat, Dane DeHaan could appear as some version of the Green Goblin or Venom, and Shailene Woodley might even eventually appear as Mary Jane Watson.

But Webb isn’t stopping there. For The Amazing Spider-Man 4, he plans to introduce even more characters and build out the universe even further – possibly even other heroes:

“I think [for] the fourth movie, what we’ve discovered is there are so many ancillary characters, that have enormous, cinematic potential that there may be other ways to exploit those characters, in a way that is exciting and fun and worthwhile. It might not just be a ‘Spider-Man’ movie.

“You know, what was fun about the comics is that there’s an entire sort of encyclopedia of characters and stories and histories and nuances and idiosyncrasies and off-shoots. I think that that is something that seems to be really successful and has a lot of potential so it’s sort of, as yet, undefined, but intentionally so.”

It makes sense why Webb and Sony would want to explore as much of the Spider-Man world as possible by bringing in new characters. Of all Marvel’s flagship characters, Spider-Man has one of the richest histories and there’s plenty of great stories to mine for material.

That being said, there are always risks to introducing characters and not paying them off. Will Rhino work as a minor villain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2? Probably. Willhis appearance successfully tee up a larger story (possibly involving the Sinister Six)? Maybe not.

As much as The Avengers demonstrated that audiences are willing to watch a movie with lots of characters, there was a lot of deliberate build-up to that film. Will non-fanboy audiences be able to make clear connections between all of the Spider-Man villains from one film to the next, especially if they’re as cryptic as The Gentleman (which was another possibility Webb talked about with Crave)?

In any case, there’s plenty of time to debate Webb’s big plans until Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s release date.
Jer3miah - 12/12/2013, 4:49 PM
I saw no mention of Brock.
OnePunchBaldy - 12/12/2013, 5:38 PM
