Spider-Man Movies

After 30 years in development, the first big screen Spider-Man movie was released May 2002 by Sony/Columbia. Starring Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst as girlfriend Mary Jane. His first villain, the Green Goblin was played expertly by Willem Dafoe.

Summary: With Great Power, There Must Also Come Great Responsibility... Orphaned at an early age, Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) lived in Queens, New York with his beloved Aunt May (Academy-Award nominee Rosemary Harris) and Uncle Ben (Academy Award winner Cliff Robertson). Peter leads the life of a normal student, working as a photographer at the Daily Bugle under the tutelage of publisher J. Jonah Jameson (J. K. Simmons), pining after the beautiful Mary Jan Watson (Kirsten Dunst) and hanging out with buddy Harry Osborn (James Franco). After being bitten by a genetically altered spider, Peter Parker's life becomes even more complicated as he assumes the role of Spider-Man, a hero of superhuman strength with the ability to cling to any surface. Spider-Man, inspired by his late Uncle Ben's immortal words, "With great power there must also come great responsibility," dedicates himself to fighting crime, while living a double life as a superhero and working student. Spider-Man's arch-enemy in the first Spider-Man movie, the Green Goblin, was in actuality the father of Peter Parker's best friend, Harry Osborn. Businessman Norman Osborn turned into this ghoulish persona after exposure to an experimental "super soldier" formula he was designing for the military. The formula increases his intelligence and strength but also drives him insane. Although Spider-Man thwarts the Green Goblin in the end, Harry Osborn becomes a sworn enemy to Spider-Man, blaming his father's death upon the web-slinger.

I thought SPIDER-MAN 3 was more a SANDMAN movie than a VENOM movie!!! Oh by the way, yes it could've been alot better but i really enjoyed it and just bought it on Blue Ray! VENOM should now spin in his own R-Rated movie with a show up of CARNAGE!!! That would be some Horror movie!! An it should be HORROR!!! As for SPIDEY 4 : SINISTER SIX yay!! ; )
LEEE777 - 1/26/2009, 3:40 PM
If they were to make a venom movie; I wouldn't nececaraly want it to be a horror flick... But I would like it to be an insainly violent brutal action film

LEEE777 - 4/11/2009, 2:39 PM
don't do a venom flick until done right.

3- harry and sandman
4- scorpion, rhino, and lizard
5- kraven, scorpion, and rhino
6- hydro-man
7- venom and carnage

then go and do a spin off flick, by having him search for the people that tortured him

Spider-Man 3

Plot- How can one hero survive and save 'em all from the darkness that now lurks inside him?

Villians- Harry and Sandman

Script (Incomplete version)

The scene opens up with a tall man making a sandwhich. He is whistling, and his wife walks in...

Martha: When did you get back?

Flint Marko: Just now. I was gambling with some friends, and I won the jack pot.

Martha: Oh my gosh, honey! How much? (happy)

Flint Marko: A million! (he too, is happy)

They hug, and Marko spins her around. Then she yells, "Marko the baby"...

Marko drives his wife to the hospital...

Now we see Marko waiting in the lobby, and eventually looking up to see his doctor...

Dr. Wilson: I got good news, Marko. You have a daughter, though your wife is alseep. You may visit, but try to remain quite.

Marko nods and walks to room, two hundred, with a happy expression. He walks in to see his wife, Martha, asleep with the baby daughter right beside her. Flint holds the baby, wrapped in a pink blanket. Her eyes look into his, and after a minute or two she smiles.

Flint Marko: Hey, Penny. I'm your father. (tears slowly coming down his eyes. Happy tears they are.)

He holds her until five in the morning...

Martha is waking up, and sees that Marko is sleeping on the couch in the far left of the room right by the window. The child, Penny, is too silently asleep. Doctors come in to take the child.

Dr. Wilson: How do you feel?

Martha: Good. Still feeling a little pain, but nothing too serious.

Wilson now leaves the room, and in doing so. Marko wakes up.

Marko: Morning, honey.

Martha: Morning to you to.

They kiss each other, and Marko walks towards the window. He looks out, for there are police
heading into the entrance. Martha notices that he is breathing hard.

Martha: What's wrong?

Marko: Some police are walking into the hospital?

Marko looks out the door, and doctors and police are talking with each other. Now the police walk
to there room.

Martha still wonders, and runs out of the room. Police yell, "stop that guy," and she begins to cry.

Opening credits...

During this we see flashbacks of each characters life, and during this: webs and then ooze with sand
emerge...

Now Spider-Man 3 goes across the screen. The flashbacks contine, and eventually New York begins to
appear...

Peter gives pictures to Betty.

Peter: Can you give these Jonah, please. I got a date with a friend.

Betty: Sure do, Parker. Good day to you.

Peter: You to, Betty.

We see Peter walk into a jewlry store.

Ms. Welch: How may I help you, sir.

Peter: Yes. I am here to buy a ring for my girlfriend.

Ms. Welch: You came to the right place!

He is being shown diamond rings, and comes across to a magnifecent one. It is gold with loops that
hold diamonds in 'em.

Peter: How much?

Ms. Welch: Six thousand, and the rest are two thousand.

Peter comes out with a bag, and starts to walk down Times Square once more.

He stops at a hot dog stand, and news reports are shown. It says, "a bank robbey is occuring,"
and the robbers and hostages are being shown.

Peter runs through Times Sqaure, looking for a back alley.

Now we see Harry talking to business men.

Harry: General, I would like to rework on the glider, and the human capabilities.

General Smith: Harry, your father, Norman, had worked on this. You remember what had happened to your father in doing this experiment?

Harry: Yes I do, but just please. Our technology has increased, and by bringing in enough money I can recommit to my father's work.

General Smith: Harry... Harry you may. On one condition.

Harry: "On one condition"?

General Smith: That you must be done with all experiments, and when your company is. Call us, ok?

Harry: Yes, General Smith. Thank you so much! (laughing happily)

Now we see the bank robbers...

Bank Robber 4: How long does it take?

Bank Robber 2: I don't know. Stay down.!

He accidently fires at her.

Bank Robber 4: Dude... Dude you... You shot her. (shocked)

Bank Robber 2: So what, man!

Bank Robber 4: I am going to go check on the others.

He walks down the hallway, and see's Bank Robber 1 hanging, wrapped in a web. Now he freaks out-
running back to his other partner.

Bank Robber 4: Two, we gotta go man!

Two is no where to be found. He calls out to the web crawler. No answer, yet he hears something.

Bank Robber 4: Show yourself.!

Picks up a hostage.

Bank Robber 4: WHERE ARE YOU!?

A web is shot out, and his mouth is useless. Spider-Man silently comes down from a ceiling, waiting for
him to notice. Turns around, and gets punched. The woman is free...

They all yell, "thank you, Spider-Man". Spider-Man swings out the way he came in, and sees the cops
surround a car. He swings away, knowing that the others are safe.

We now see Mary Jane acting on stage...

Kristen (Mary Jane): Well, Elise I do not think you should forgive him.

Elise (Ashley): I have to, Kristen.

Kristen (Mary Jane): No... No, you do not. You're my only best friend, Elise. Please don't do this. (crying)

Elise (Ashley): I'll take it into consideration.

When said, We see Harry staring down into the crowd in a box. When he see's Peter, he begins to grow agression.

Norman: Yes, my son. Let the feel of agression flow through your veins...

Bernerd: Sir, you alright?

Harry: Don't worry about me.

A confused look comes upon his face, and we go back to seeing the play...

We see Kristen (Mary Jane) and Elise (Ashley) kiss each other on the cheek, and then hug. The curtains come down. The audience tremendously claps.

Peter heads to Mary Jane, and in doing so. Gwen Stacy stops in front of him.

Gwen Stacy: Thanks for helping me understand science, Pete.

Peter: Your welcome. Hey I want you to meet a friend of mine.

Gwen Stacy: Sure?

Pete introduces Gwen Stacy to Mary Jane, and then Harry walks past 'em.

Peter: Harry!

They come to the entrance- for he does turn around, yet doesn't speak.

Peter: Harry I didn't kill your father. We all loved your father, but his agressions began to take place, and it killed him.

Harry: Rise him from the dead. Your words mean nothing, yet you feel as if you must continue to speak.

Harry gets in the car waiting for him. He turns back, and see's Peter standing there alone.

Peter turns around to see Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy come out. Both Stacy and Watson say good-bye, and Peter and Watson head towards the park...

We find 'em making out on a web. After a few minutes they stop, and police are heard.

Mary Jane: Go get 'em tiger. (annoyed)

Peter: I'll take you home first, and then-

Mary Jane: What's wrong?

Peter: Nothing.

They leave, and Spider-Man swings through the city once more...

He finds that the cops have already hand cuffed the crooks. Now wee him heading back dissapointed to his apartment...

Now he reaches his apartment. Peter has noticed that the owners are new. He his ask for his rent, yet does not care yet. The young woman said, "that your Aunt had called, and she wants you to head to the police station".

We now see him at the police station...

Commisioner Stacy: Please sit down. The reports of your Uncle's killer, had been misleading. This is your real Uncle's killer.

He shows 'em a picture of a man.

Aunt May: Who is this man? (crying)

Commissioner Stacy: His name is Flint Marko. We tracked him down the day after, and yet he got away.

Peter: How do you know that this might not be misleading either?

Commissioner Stacy: We don't. He'll testi-

Charles: Commissioner Stacy, we found Marko.

Everyone stares at each other.

Now we see Flint Marko running through fields...

Police: STOP, FLINT MARKO.!!

All of the police have K-Nine's, and flashlights. They release the dogs, and Flint Marko stops at a fence. He is attacked by the dogs, and eventually does make it over.

He runs, and falls through a hole...

We see scientists doing an experiment.

Bill: Courtney, what we got?

Courtney: Something is in one of the Vaccum's?

Bill: Probably flocks of birds. They'll fly away, hopefully.

Now we see Flint Marko waking up in a pile of sand. He gets up, noticing that a experiment is
about to occur. Lights turn on, and the blades begin to turn. Sand is rising around him, and his
body cells start to become apart of the sand...

Its the next day, and we see sand flying. An arm shoots out, and then falls back. It happens again, and it stays in an arm-like form. The arm bends, and a head begins to form. The head begins to collapse, yet it reforms: eyes, ears, and lips show. He holds a neckless in the palm of his hand, and his whole body rises. He crumbles, and reforms with more strength.

Seaguls fly by the sand-like-human, and we see cops searching the place.

Now they come across to see a sand form. They shoot, and the sand form falls. This time the sand flies there way. A head shows, and the flying sand screams in anger. Killing the cops.

After he kills the cops, he returns to his normal structure. Running through New York, eventually
coming forth to his apartment.

Now walking in. It is abandoned like someone had just left in adrenanline rush. The only thing left is a newspaper. His arm reachs in sand, and hardens when picked up.

It shows that he is a wanted man, and gives a full article about him. He crushes it, and flies through
a small window.

Black Cat may be a good addition to the franchise but not until the 5th or 6th film. They need to get Lizard and Carnage into the 4th film first. If not Carnage then Lizard only because they have been prolonging the innevitable, Dr. Connors must fufill his Destiny. (Not to sound like Vader here.)

Diamond1995 - 1/11/2010, 5:40 PM
How to properly reboot the Spider-man Franchise
Story/Plot (Universally constructing a world and character plots to deal with problematic origins):

Im going to start off by saying that this new franchise origins need to be handled very specifically.
The smartest choice in my opinion would be to set the entire origin story and early life of Peter Parker as Spiderman in a perfectly captured intro sequence. An example of an attempt at this would be Marvel Studios recent Hulk reboot “The Incredible Hulk”. Why not make the origin intro lengthy as well? Hell, I personally love long intros, watchmen’s intro for example, I loved. While “The Incredible Hulk”, lies on the other side of that spectrum, it did a good job at making its origins very short and very clear in the opening sequence. So what Sony/Marvel and everyone who matters on this project need to do is hit a balance of what those two films did in there intros, showing the characters history, and then getting right to the good stuff. Handling of the origin being done in this fashion would likely be flawless in the eyes of most critics, the mainstream and comic book nerds alike.

I imagine the feel of this brand new franchise is going to be a lot different. So as a first villain, I’d go the Nolan route ala the Bat franchise and use someone no body expects first. The movie going audience is likely expecting a popular character; Electro, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, Doc Ock, Venom, types typically used as more mainstream spidey villains.

Let’s face it. It’d look cool but characters like electro and many other Spiderman villains are a little to shallow of characters to hold together a comeback movie all their own.

In this light I propose, Jackal, a classic, well done, but lesser known villain. There is plenty of room for interpretation with this character, he is in the comics and could be in film, very strategically placed as Biology Professor Miles Warren working at Empire State University, beside the likes of popular characters Curt Connors and Eddie Brock.

The ability to build a coherent universe around this character and even connect him back to Spiderman’s OsCorp. related origins is great. The plot idea I propose for Jackal and the growth of other, previously mentioned characters, including Spiderman for future films is as follows.

Having the possibility to set numerous villains up, quickly, but properly past the point of basic origin, would allow for more time to tell the actual story of these characters involved in the proposed plot, as well as allow future antagonist to grow more convincingly, smoothly and naturally as the story of Peter Parker progresses from film to film.

Peter’s personal life and growth as a character could flow with the proposed Jackal plot flawlessly. Beyond what’s already been said. How you might ask?

First of all, it’d help that no fan/critic/average movie goers expect the approach, if they did, that might be beneficial to the film as well, so it’s a win/win. As far as action is concerned with Jackal, its alllll good; he could be the best of both worlds from venom and green goblin. Fight/action scenes wouldn’t be an issue.

Secondly, you could construct the story so Justin Hammer (or a similar character if rights are an obstacle) and Dr. Miles Warren (Jackal), Empire State University biology professor. The Long time colleague of Dr. Curt Connors who also, of course works with good friend of Peter Parker, Eddie Brock as a student assistant. This would be, as far as Origins are concerned, an easy fix and an obstacle destroyer to get past flawed origins in order to allow for more “of the good stuff” as was aforementioned.

For example, Hammer and Miles could have worked with Norman Osborn and OsCorp on creating the super cocktail that eventually creates all, if not a great deal of, Spidey’s villains. As well as it did spidey himself in the past of course.

As the films progress, scribes could write in a bunch of really cleaver ways to bring the villains into an all very well constructed and packaged series of plots effecting Peter greatly through his Journey as Spiderman. The “blessing” that is the serum/toxin in which OsCorp, Hammer industries and Professor Warren all co-created, could produce any number of villains beyond Jackal himself, with any number of abilities under the right circumstances. While, if written well, lacking no repeat plotting as with each villain being completely original in there own right.

As a result you could get anything from symbioses, to the lizard, to sandman and electro. And I only use this method because the biggest problem spidey movies seem to have had in the past is the problem of, origin, where did this come from and why? The universal origin, if you will; or something like it would fix all of those issues, so the movie makers could; again, get to the actual characters, action and all that good stuff!

A very Fan Boyish Example: Were definitely going to need a high school fight scene; Preferably with a bunch of SHEILD agents raiding the place while spidey and Jackal battle it out like spidey and green goblin did in the earlier goings of Ultimate Spiderman. If SHEILD is another legal issue then use SWAT in there place. That one action scene could be, in my humble opinion, far more epic than all the other action scenes from the previous movie franchise. That one lone scene would be loved by me and more importantly, most, if not all the people who paid ten bucks for a ticket.

Note: My universal construction of the origins plot; would also allow Sony to have as many action/story progression scenarios they and everyone else want. As well as open up a series of gateways in rewriting a script.

Another Note:
Everyone, average movie goers and hard core comic fans alike would love and appreciate some well timed, well executed cameos from very small, lesser known villains, very brief, but sweet. A Boomerang cameo would fit perfectly in a crime fighting montage, full of that trade mark Spiderman sarcasm and comedic behavior.

Actor Casting/Opinions:

A lot of young actors could play the good old’, smart ass, wise cracking spidey; witch by the way is desperately needed in this reboot. Peter on the other hand, and a truly “teenage” Peter Parker at that, is a whole separate animal for any young actor to tackle.

In regards concerning the last Peter Parker (Toby Maguire) I’d just like to say:
Plenty of people loved him in Raimi’s films, as well as the actual films themselves. So did I, but in more ways than one, they didn’t really reflect the comics, even Peter Parker himself, more so than that, modern Spiderman and modern Parker.

An uber talented, up and coming actor that comes to mind for the role of Peter Parker is Aaron Johnson. He has great potential in filling the void and creating a more accepted, new to film, but more traditional to the modern comics, version of Peter Parker. I’m aware that he’s playing kick ass in the upcoming film adaptation, but he deserves an audition at the very least. I personally wouldn’t care that he’s currently playing kick ass and I doubt the movie going public would either. That being taking into consideration, if Johnson, were of course, like any actor, made to look like Parker in the film, its likely movie goers as well as the mainstream would accept him in the role, open armed. Most of the mainstream and any one who is or isn’t a comic book fan for that matter probably wouldn’t care, but love the fact that he’s playing both characters. I feel Johnson could easily fill Maguire’s boots in taking on the iconic character, but at the same time breath new life into it. I find his potential in the role is very exciting.

J. Jonah Jameson:

On another casting note, keep J.K Simmons as J.J

There’s probably going to be a little less of J.J through out these new films, at least there should be, as to help differentiate from the previous franchise.

But J.K Simmons is TO GOOD as J. Jonah Jameson to resist.

J.J: "Does anybody care what I want!?"
"…I do"
J.J: "Shut up!"

Sony should really consider bringing him back to the role. No one can play JJ like Simmons.
I would honestly be heartbroken if they didn’t bring back J.K Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson.

Composing:

An example: Something like, a mix of Steve Jablonsky’s style of composing with a Bryan Tyler style for the lighter action and cheeky moments, then even a Hans Zimmer style for some of the more intense and desperate moments.

These various, high end, styles or something like it, need to be harmonized to make the films sound really pop and fit perfectly. Spiderman is such a layered character, so naturally he needs the sound to go with it all.

Well Sony/Marvel could quite easily snag a talented composer to interpret and adapt these types of styles into a perfect hybrid sound track for the film.

Criticism over reboot:

I’ve read and considered multiple fan comments/opinions online. This one for example: “I hope they don’t base this one on the ultimate Spiderman again, do the originals for once”

This particular comment certainly surprised me, as an avid reader of Brian Michael Bendis Ultimate Spiderman series. I instantly thought. Considering all of Sam Raimi’s film ideas are/were based almost entirely in the popular 1970's Spiderman works, this seemingly knowledgeable fan should have known better. The comment made me more aware of how some fans are terribly misinformed on the creative process of the original franchise. He had not a clue where the first franchise ideas and principle plot bases came from.

To help build this great new franchise, everyone involved in this project at Sony, needs to do there self a favor and read the ultimate Spiderman series. A totally modern Spiderman needs to be understood and implemented properly in the new franchise. Bendis book would help to benefit Sony’s developmental creative process greatly.

Its important to realize these last three films were nothing like the comics and by rebooting Sony/Marvel want to get back to just that, THE COMICS.

Creative team (writers, principal photography etc.):

Everything they want and could ever need for this movie lies again, in the ultimate Spiderman series. This brings me to my next point; Sony needs to take a huge step in Involving Brian Michael Bendis on the script.

Perhaps allowing him to co-rewrite the script with James Vanderbilt and maybe give the creative team from ultimate Spiderman’s recent history some form of input on visual design, even a slight input at that. Simply put, just get Bendis on it already, it would do no wrong.

Oh boy, they sure would be dumb not to. Please Sony/Marvel, prove me wrong. Heck, Prove us all wrong!

The Full Main Cast:

Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) as Peter Parker

Micheal Angarano (Forbidden Kingdom) as Harry Osborne

Amanda Seyfried (Jennifer's Body) as Gwen Stacy

Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim) as Mary Jane Watson

John Malkovich as Dr. Miles Warren/Jackal
