Roger Ebert shares his opinion of The Amazing Spider-Man and gives it 3.5/4 stars! This is great news for fans of The Amazing Spider-Man because Roger Ebert is arguably the most popular movie critic out there and this will surely help the Andrew Garfield incarnation of Spider-Man become more accepted in the public's eye. Here is a synopsis of what he thought. Hit the link if you would like to view his whole review.

We live in an age of speed-up, which may explain why the "Spider-Man" franchise feels the need for a reboot only 10 years after its first film, and five years after the most recent one. In its broad strokes, "The Amazing Spider-Man" is a remake of Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" (2002), but it's not the broad strokes we care about. This is a more thoughtful film, and its action scenes are easier to follow in space and time. If we didn't really need to be told Spidey's origin story again, at least it's done with more detail and provides better reasons for why Peter Parker throws himself into his superhero role.

Dennis Leary appeared on The Letterman Show where it was revealed that David Letterman also loved the movie! Skip to 5:10 if you want to save some time.

The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Denis Leary, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field; the film swings into theatres July 3rd.

I can't even hear anybody's opinion on the movie for the sake of not being spoiled about what happens in the movie.
Batman27 - 6/29/2012, 12:11 AM
The only opinion that matters is MY OWN!
CBMM1 - 6/29/2012, 12:11 AM
YES! YES! YES! I KNEW IT WOULD BE GOOD. Unfortunately I can't attend the midnight but i will be at my local theater Tuesday night at 8:00.

How are we going to top a year when TDKR, Avengers and TASM comes out and we argue over whats going to be better.
hellfire - 6/29/2012, 12:40 AM
They'll reboot Twilight next year so we'll be arguing over that.
worldbreaker - 6/29/2012, 12:41 AM
commenting on a review saying you dont care what it has to say just seems pointless. has the movie had any bad reviews yet? i'd like to see those on here too
worldbreaker - 6/29/2012, 12:43 AM
@hellfire they should do a 3 part prequel instead. explaining that vampirism is caused by midichlorions
thalidomide - 6/29/2012, 1:06 AM
Atleast he gave it a 3.5/4. I'm definitely going to see this tomorrow!

People like jay Leno or Letterman say they like every movie. The are in the business and you can't trust their pandering opinions or statements.

The only opinion that matters to me is, uh, well, my girlfriend's actually. That is, if I want to stay off the couch. She says that this movie will be great and since she has the boobs and vagina, who am I to argue?

I'm looking forward to it. At the first, I was not happy with the costume, but it looks much better in the finished version.

My God, Dennis Leary and Dave = Comedic gold!
REDSTORM - 6/29/2012, 1:53 AM
Can't wait for the movie, but I'm pretty sure Letterman is supposed to say he liked the movie. Otherwise it'd be stupid to have Leary as a guest, no?
Bandrews1 - 6/29/2012, 2:18 AM
One more week :)
hellfire - 6/29/2012, 2:27 AM
@worldbreaker lol even better
Jollem - 6/29/2012, 2:41 AM
roger ebert said that video games should never be considered an art form and that there hasn't been one yet that could. at one point people were debating if movies should ever be considered an art form if i'm not mistaken. i wonder if mr. ebert considers comic books as an art form? if he doesn't, i would kindly ask him to read the Sandman.
GUNSMITH - 6/29/2012, 2:42 AM

Big Worm has been reduced to Internet advertising. See kids, just say no to Jerry Curls... I loved the interview, and as much as I HATED the costume originally (Still not a fan) I've learned to accept it so far. But God Almighty if they screw up the symbiote. There will be blood...
AutobotCommander84 - 6/29/2012, 3:39 AM
@Jollem He does consider them an art form actually. It might be hard to believe, but Ebert has read comics before and enjoyed them. It's a reason why he doesn't ever bash a good comic book adaptation for being based on a comic book.
Jollem - 6/29/2012, 3:49 AM
@AutobotCommander84 - ...kooky. wouldn't have thought that. wonder why he's got a bug up his booty about video games tho?
marvel72 - 6/29/2012, 4:00 AM
i look forward to seeing this at some point next week.
Ashes2Phoenix - 6/29/2012, 4:25 AM
This is great to hear! Very encouraging! Seems my faith on this movie is paying off !
Darkhaven - 6/29/2012, 4:28 AM
Looks pretty cool, I'm still totally going to see it, but there's no way on Earth it beats the awesome that was Spider-Man 2. That damn thing was a comic come to life.
BenderDickCumPatch - 6/29/2012, 4:34 AM
5 DAYS.

CrowPirate1 - 6/29/2012, 4:45 AM
I hope the movie is good. I really do.

I just don't like the suit still. Hey, I LOVED the Avengers, but wish they stayed with his suit from the Cap movie.

and here's a thought: why not let Peter get older.... there's so many stories to tell with him maturing, and getting stronger and better with his powers. Why keep rehashing his high school years? I just freakin hope Hollywood allows him to grow up. Become a man.

Stop with the reboots now.
BIGBMH - 6/29/2012, 4:53 AM
Just a little pet peeve, IT'S NOT A REMAKE!
PeterParker1991 - 6/29/2012, 5:24 AM
^^ agreed. It's another chapter, just as Mister Garfield quoted. - - 4 days...
Ric - 6/29/2012, 5:29 AM
I'm going in this movie TONIGHT!
xstryker - 6/29/2012, 5:50 AM
I was going to see this anyway, but now I'm a little more excited.

LOL at people who comment on articles just to tell you they didn't read it and don't care. If you have so much time to waste, write your own article on something you do care about.
95 - 6/29/2012, 6:09 AM
Well, this is good. Over the years, I found myself agreeing with Ebert most of the time. Let's see if that's the case here. July 3, folks....
ThreeBigTacos - 6/29/2012, 6:57 AM
CrowPirate: "Why keep rehashing his high school years? I just freakin hope Hollywood allows him to grow up. Become a man"

Considering this is the first time it's being rebooted, and it's a different chapter in his story, I don't know exactly how this is on the same line as being constantly rehashed. The first movie BARELY had him in high school too if I recall.
BenderDickCumPatch - 6/29/2012, 7:06 AM
If he likes it, its a great film. Simple

His Avengers one wasn't the best.
IronSpider101 - 6/29/2012, 7:11 AM
Roger Ebert is one of the only critics whose opinion I actually care about. Time and again he's proven himself a cut-above the rest of the critics. Of course I've had a few disagreements with him, but more often than not he's right on the money. I feel he was the only critic to give "Thor" an accurate review, even if he did have some story-line inconsistencies.

The fact that he likes it rekindles some interest for me in this movie. Perhaps it'll be worth a look-see on a cheap tuesday or something.
peterparker3d - 6/29/2012, 7:28 AM
The Amazing Spider-man was really amazing. The 3D effect implemented in the film was providing an extra entertainment through out the movie. Our hero Mr. Peter Parker got a spider bite from a spider used for the chemical testing in a research organization Os corp. After that he realizing his amazing power to swing through the street with his spider web. Those scenes are perfectly made us soo exciting with the cool 3D effects. Then the most lovable moments between Our heroine Gwen Stacy and Our Hero Peter Parker.
The street stunt scenes are pictured in 3D effects and we get statue-d with our breath until spider-man lands on a safe position. The heroism shown by the Peter Parker after he got the spider power was super. The scenes that everything got destructed when he touches anything was really made us laughing.
It is very sad to see a good scientist Dr Curtis Connors turns to be a gigantic lizard while he inject a particular solution to his body to regenerate his lost limps just like a lizard. The exciting moments in the movie was the fight between the terrific lizard and our spider-man. These all are pictured in 3D effects.

When I search for The Amazing spider-man, I could able to see my Spider-man already released in certain Toy Stores. With an enthusiasm I browsed that website. Ahh.. It made me to remember those wonderful movie scenes once again in my mind. I loved those products. I just order the products of my action hero.

Right on! I'm hearing all good things about this movie. I can't wait for it!
TheBatman50k - 6/29/2012, 9:49 AM
This review gives me hope for this movie. One of the few critics i do listen to is Ebert so when he says a super-hero/comic film is good then I trust him. I'll probably wont see it at midnight but i'll see it sometime next week.
UncleJimmy - 6/29/2012, 9:55 AM
Azazel1 you are german?
Wow and I thought your dumbass stuck out like a sore thumb here on cbm. You must be an outcast in a country full of intelligent people.
nosnegrom - 6/29/2012, 10:06 AM
A spiderman movie would be wierd without an origin story
GoILL - 6/29/2012, 10:20 AM
I was always going to see this movie even though my excitement for this paled in comparison to The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises, but seeing that Ebert liked it is cool with me he is one critic who isn't that fond of most cbm's over the years.
cosmicstranger - 6/29/2012, 10:45 AM
I did not read the article because I want to see the movie and at least be (somewhat) suprised with what happens.

@Lord Loki668- Hilarious!
SebHope - 6/29/2012, 12:00 PM
This film will be good, theirs been plenty of reviews out their from the real critics saying its good, theirs just a few who either are overly nit picky nerds of spiderman who want everything exact, those who cant get past a tredding the same ground, even though most say its not done to any great length just to get the origins explained applied to the new deeper ideas of why he decides to stand up for others instead of just doing it because he can. Also theirs alot of reviewers and people out their who just dont get emotional depth in films all the time they completely miss deeper meaning, which it sounds like this is full of, sure its more romantic but after the lackluster chemistry of mcguire and dunst it could do with a real love story like the comics, and no unlike alot of mindless reviewers just because its romantic yet dark that does not mean its like twilight, thats just a mindless comparison. Also once youve got good reviews from ebert and travers your films to atleast a good standard, and this one ebert says is only weaker than spiderman 2 and come on no one can expect differently for starter origin stories are never a free enough film to be truly great. Also btw den of geek are pretty poor for reciews, prometheus may have disappointed some but a film of that grandeur yet still with smarts is never a 2 star film, it was very good in my opinion smart and got ya talking.

This is great news, Ebert is looking at is as a film, where we see spiderman. If he says its a good film thats great to hear
UrbanKnight - 6/29/2012, 1:39 PM
m own opinion is the one that matters to me the most, but ebert ia a close second!!
ive been following his reviews since the mid 90s.
the man is a legend, ironically, one of the few reviews i didnt completely agree with him with about was for the original spider-man.
he likes this one better than that one but not as much as spider-man 2.
like i said this one seems to fall between those two in greatness, i can live with that.
cant wait!
CoolantTech - 6/29/2012, 3:06 PM
This movie makes the Raimi trilogy look like a [frick]in cartoon... yess Spider-man 2, im talking about you
huexolotl - 6/29/2012, 8:56 PM
Roger's getting old. I think hes losing whatever sense he had.

If the movie gets a good RT rating (90 +) ill watch it on dvd when it comes out. If not, at least its tickets not going towards batman.
