Marc Webb Shares His Thoughts On An AVENGERS Crossover And A SPIDER-WOMAN Movie

The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb remains uncertain about returning for the sequel, but does comment on a possible crossover between this universe and the one inhabited by The Avengers as well as the chances of a movie starring Spider-Woman.

"I don't know," Marc Webb told Entertainment Weekly when he was asked about whether or not he will return to helm a follow-up to The Amazing Spider-Man. "I've said this before, but it's like asking a woman who's just given birth if she wants to get pregnant again. You know, I need to nurse the baby for a little while." A sequel to this July's movie may not be the only film Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker/Spider-Man appears in as rumours continue to run rampant that he will make a cameo in a future The Avengers installment. "It certainly would be fun. I can't deny that," added Webb. "But there are all these twists in Spider-Man. There's a lot to explore before that would probably happen." As for whether he'd like to bring Spider-Woman to the big screen at some point, he said: "You never know! I don't know if I'd direct it, but I'd certainly see it."

The director has remained fairly noncommittal when asked about returning to helm a sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man up until this point, although you can hear what he told me about that, as well as the Green Goblin, The Daily Bugle and much more, this Monday in my exclusive interview with the filmmaker.

Spidey31 - 6/30/2012, 10:11 AM

dailycomicsfix - 6/30/2012, 10:14 AM
God that guy is an annoying prick....ermmm....go [frick] yourself!!!!
Hudson3D - 6/30/2012, 10:16 AM
@IM53... Both of these studios must know that it is BIG BUCKS if this happens! I really want this to happen!
StarSpangledBruce - 6/30/2012, 10:20 AM
Sure why not.

SuspenseSmith - 6/30/2012, 10:24 AM
Spider-Woman can only work in the MCU due to her Hydra connections. It wouldn't work as a Sony only film.

Also again I reference Roger Rabbit and Wreck It Ralph are proof that crossing over of characters with different right ownership can exist in the same movie.
Hudson3D - 6/30/2012, 10:28 AM
@Patient.. He copy and pasted the same words at least a thousand times in one post. The whole thread came to a stand still.
dancingmonkey08 - 6/30/2012, 10:30 AM
Im just gonna put this out there, I dont think Spider-Man should be in the Avengers. Dont get me wrong, I want the current Spider-Man in the MCU (plus it would validate the reason for a reboot. I was one of those who wanted a Spidey 4 with a new director, writers and cast but a MCU set Spider-Man would make me happy its a reboot) i.e. there can be references in Spider-Man to the Avengers (be it background references or proper cameos) and vice-versa

but I have always preferred Spidey as a loner in his younger years, I only thought it was fitting he joined the New Avengers because he had gone from being an inexperienced young teenage crimefighter to a fully developed man who had gone through so much in his life, he was fit to become a member of the Avengers

have it reflect the history of Spider-Man in the comics, he wasnt a main member of the Avengers until much later in his life. And I dont want to see an adult Spidey until a least a second trilogy of Amazing Spider-Man

oh and Thanks Josh, for posting the articles again, god I hope tinman has been banned. he has gone from annoyance to a full on troll who needs to go

@PatientZero

he typed the word "OMG" about an billion times (slight overestimation there lol) and it took up half the page....and then proceed to make the very same post again. Be glad you werent here, it was bloody annoying lol
Hudson3D - 6/30/2012, 10:30 AM
@jlab.. nice pic.. she has a big yellow arrow pointing to the camel..
wbrowning79 - 6/30/2012, 10:35 AM
I said it once and I'll say it again...
It should have been Tobey. Nuff said
StarkAnthony - 6/30/2012, 10:50 AM
Does Sony have the rights to Spider Woman? She isn't really connected to Spider-Man in any way. And I don't get how people think Spider-Man in the Avengers would benefit both Disney and Sony. Sony benefits by royalties or whatever they get for their character in another studio's film, but Disney benefits how? By bigger ticket sales? I really don't think the people who didn't see The Avengers (all 2 of them) are going to see it just because Spidey's in in too.
Spidey31 - 6/30/2012, 11:01 AM
@Starkanthoney but keep in mind spider-man is marvels flagship character and a lot of people questioned his apparence in the avengers. Most think TASM will lead into the avengers 2 lol.
continuezero - 6/30/2012, 11:09 AM
@Patient and dancingmonkey....A billion is not an overestimation. I literally held the space bar for minutes and it went on forever. Tinman is such a loser. Good thing this got reposted.
Avengers2012 - 6/30/2012, 11:14 AM
People love Spidey dude. He's easily one of the most identifiable heroes out there. I would say most popular hero's that are well known to the general audience right now are Superman,Batman,Spider-Man, and Iron Man. Maybe Hulk to. I guarantee even more people would see Avengers 2 if spider-man was in it.
Avengers2012 - 6/30/2012, 11:15 AM
Wolverine is pretty known to the general audience to.
CyberInflames - 6/30/2012, 11:24 AM
@StarkAnthony: Well Sony would contribute on the budget of the film, so Disney benefits there.
Watcher - 6/30/2012, 11:26 AM
I sure wish they would do a Spider-Woman movie, but honestly i don't think they ever will.

I am bored with Spider-Man. I would rather have a Spider-Woman movie than a Spider-Man movie. easily.
Watcher - 6/30/2012, 11:29 AM
Oi, what did the Tinman guy do? What did he say that ticked you guys off?
Whovian - 6/30/2012, 11:33 AM
I would LOVE to see a Spider Woman movie! KInd of like Jason Bourne with a chick!
Hudson3D - 6/30/2012, 11:36 AM
@StarkAnthony. Not everybody in the world went to see Avengers! A lot of the CBM fans will still wait for the Blu-Ray, DVD etc. But there will be a lot of Die hard fans watching TASM that that didn't go to see avengers.

If Spidey cameos in A2, you get both audiences watching one film.

Big money indeed!!
Watcher - 6/30/2012, 11:37 AM
ok
Hudson3D - 6/30/2012, 11:43 AM
@Juggernaut.. http://www.comicbookmovie.com/community/publicsquare/

Have a look at MrTinman! He's a DICK!
StarSpangledBruce - 6/30/2012, 12:02 PM
MrTinman didn't have the heart to give a shit.

So long troll.
Spidey31 - 6/30/2012, 12:06 PM
Lol yea mr.tinman doesn't have a heart haha. But seriously that pretty much [frick]ed up my safari.
nosnegrom - 6/30/2012, 1:12 PM
Spiderwoman is kind of lame
angus666 - 6/30/2012, 1:40 PM
Yeah... Tinman ruined it for everybody. I don't care if Spidey joins The Avengers or not. It would seem a little weird with a high schooler in with that group of people.
thanos83 - 6/30/2012, 1:54 PM
Please no..Garfield's interpretation of Peter Parker is rather vacuous ..id only be interested in this if it was toby magure reprising his role as spidy,or a completely new actor donning the webbed pajamas..Sony only wants to do this due to reap the enormous payday they would receive..which is why i don't think it would happen..why pay another studio 2 use a character that u practically "own" anyway,it just reeks of idiocy if disney fell for this
thanos83 - 6/30/2012, 1:57 PM
its a shame..i think Nick Hammond looked the most like Peter Parker in any transliteration of the character
DukeAcureds - 6/30/2012, 2:02 PM
ermm... poor... ermmm... tinman... ermmmm... if he only had a ... ermmm... heart.
LucasMend - 6/30/2012, 2:27 PM
So, Spider-Woman belongs to marvel studios or sony?
bababoozer - 6/30/2012, 2:46 PM
No one wants to see a female superhero movie. Well.....maybe about 5,839 people, but that won't turn a profit. There's just no interest. Never will be.
ATrueHero1987 - 6/30/2012, 2:55 PM
I would pay to see Norman Osborn go against Tony Stark.
CoolantTech - 6/30/2012, 3:04 PM

Can't Wait!!!
TheSoulEater - 6/30/2012, 3:44 PM
Spiderman couldn't carry her own movie
DrDoom - 6/30/2012, 4:24 PM
Spider-Woman can stay on the shelf.

How about we get a new Spider-Man, made by Marvel, with a costume that isn't retarded?
comicfanx - 6/30/2012, 5:14 PM
Spiderwoman movie?
the actress should dress so.

Thanos005 - 6/30/2012, 5:33 PM
Mr Webb seems pretty ummm... Unambitious. He does not sound too proud of his work. Not proud enough to continue or take a risk or anything.
Spidey31 - 6/30/2012, 5:45 PM
@thanos neither did nolan, it's the oldest trick in the book
SuspenseSmith - 6/30/2012, 6:05 PM
Anyone see the animated Spider-Woman movie... I didn't really like the character until I saw it. Then I totally loved her story after that. But unfortunately it couldn't be done in any way like the animated movie because it had Spider-Woman (Sony), Hydra (Disney), and Skrulls (Fox)

[frick]ing rights. Sony is the most likely to play ball with Disney. But Fox has a bigger portion of the universe between X-Men and FF and they're stuck up pricks that'll never share nor give up their rights.
MitchConner - 6/30/2012, 8:53 PM
Lol...just read tinman's comments...not sure if I should laugh because he's a f a g or if I should laugh because it's funny he managed to get us all talking about him by writing OMG 1000 times.
ScionStorm - 6/30/2012, 10:42 PM
@SuspenseSmith- Why would Sony own Spider-woman. She has NOTHING to do with the Spider-Man property AT ALL. And why would Fox own the Skrulls. Super Skrull, yes-maybe. But not the entire Skrull race. No. Marvel is free to use them as long as they side-step Kl'rt or the rights to FF rever to Marvel.
ScionStorm - 6/30/2012, 10:45 PM
Spider-Woman and Ms. Marvel need movies. Wasp needs to be introduced in Ant-Man and Captain Marvel needs to show up in Marvel Cinematic Universe before the shazammer gets green lit by Warner Bros.
Phlegmbot - 6/30/2012, 11:17 PM
Sadly, Webb's directing is the weakest thing about the film. Saw a screening.

There are some major story points that are oddly glossed over; the script is generally strong, the plot pretty basic. But Webb was very clearly WAY out of his element.

Not as much as Campbell was on GL, b/c this movie isn't abhorrent mess, but it's just not...how to put it? Er, it's just not compelling. There's no real excitement, it didn't draw me in, and it's not as fun and witty as Raimi's take (which wasn't perfect but was definitely stronger). He just couldn't wring the fun and excitement out of either the big or little moments as deftly as Raimi.
DarthTesla - 7/1/2012, 12:33 AM
Spider-Woman is not lame. She is awesome.

Gwen Stacy is [frick]ing lame.
BenderDickCumPatch - 7/1/2012, 1:35 AM
Yeah no...
Ha1frican - 7/1/2012, 6:32 AM
I think Peter should make a cameo in another movie. The fact that they were going to add the Oscorp building to the skyline in Avengers shows there is a chance of that happening, but how do you explain the city not being destroyed when Peter gets his powers if it's after, and him not showing up to fight if it was before? Regardless they could even wait until after AS3 and then introduce him as part of a new team when the actors playing heros eventually retire.
