The Amazing Spider-Man is an American superhero film directed by Marc Webb, based on the comic book of the same name and starring Andrew Garfield as the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. It is the fourth Columbia Pictures film that portrays Spider-Man in film and is a reboot of the film series that stars the superhero. The cast includes Garfield as Peter Parker and his alter ego, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors. The film will portray Parker as his super powers are evolving in high school.

The film's development began simultaneously with Sony announcing the cancellation of Spider-Man 4. Opting for a reboot with the same production team rather than another sequel, the studio announced a July 2012 release date for what was now titled The Amazing Spider-Man. James Vanderbilt was hired to write the script while Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves helped fine-tune the script. Filming started in December 2010 in Los Angeles before moving to New York City with the help of RED Epic camera. The film entered post-production in April 2011.

Sony Entertainment has focused its marketing campaign with a promotional website with released images, 2 theatrical trailers, a prologue screening in certain cities and a video game tie-in being developed by Beenox among other products. The Amazing Spider-Man is scheduled to be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on July 3, 2012. A sequel of the film is being planned for release in 2014 with James Vanderbilt hired to again write the screenplay.

I liked it.

Acting was great.
Story was ok.
Music was ok.
Effects were good.

Overall: I'd give it a 7.5 or 8/10.
Nick56 - 7/6/2012, 9:13 PM
The movie was ok. Lacked the sense of awe and fun that the Raimi films had. The movie dragged a bit and had terrible pacing. The acting was for the most part good but the action scenes were a bit lame and lacked any spectacle (apart from the final fight - though most of that was shown in the trailers). There was also little "untold story". I hope the sequel can at least try to be more original and more entertaining.
sonofsamadams - 7/6/2012, 9:15 PM
So the overral response is 'solid'. Its what I expected.

I thought it was pretty good. It had some flaws that i thought were very noticeable and cringing to sit through, like the lack of a good villain. i really liked the new suit and the relationship between parker and Gwen, but Its no Spider-man 1 or 2, however its miles ahead of Spider-man 3.
B+ in my book.
Nick56 - 7/6/2012, 9:17 PM
Whether you like or dislike the Raimi films at least they were memorable. I watched Spidey 1 & 2 on blu-ray tonight and I still feel like a kid again watching my favourite superhero come to life for the first time.
Swarley - 7/6/2012, 9:18 PM
Not amazing, just, ok.
At least drop hints about Harry and MJ!
sonofsamadams - 7/6/2012, 9:18 PM
@mrcool210

Dude. Chill. Just cause someone else didn't like it and you did doesn't mean you need to get your panties in a bunch.

JDUKE25 - 7/6/2012, 9:19 PM
Did he ever change his web cartridges in the movie? I can't remember. I would've liked for him to have run out, popped em out, and replaced them during a fight.
DragonofDarknessXIII - 7/6/2012, 9:20 PM
@JDUKE I don't think he had any.
Tony93 - 7/6/2012, 9:20 PM
This dudes review is spot on..

AiyalKilU - 7/6/2012, 9:26 PM
lol @ Rob "I can't draw humans" Liefeld loving the movie. Of course, it makes perfect sense.

Also, what a pandering whore Milla Jovavich is huh? I also highly doubt the "entire theater was cheering" bit that fellow tracked back to her. Nobody gives a rat's ass about Resident Evil except for Paul 'Weak Sh*T' Anderson apologists.
MrReese - 7/6/2012, 9:26 PM
Gwen looked hot!! XD
TheAlexLynch - 7/6/2012, 9:28 PM
My mo[frick]ka shawn Michaels watching Spider-Man is awesome.

@Mrcool the people talking about Bing are obviously joking. They aren't hating on the movie at all. Espescially that girl who says that the movie is unrealistic. That's an obvious joke.
ATrueHero1987 - 7/6/2012, 9:28 PM
Yea, I agree. What fool(s) cheered for a new RE movie?!lol
Cswag12 - 7/6/2012, 9:30 PM
i liked the movie have no complaints it was fun but a lot better then the 3rd one
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 7/6/2012, 9:33 PM
This movie def would of been 10X better if the score was as good as the Raimi score.
YOUNGBL00D - 7/6/2012, 9:34 PM
"everyone cheered when resident evil trailer came one" What the hell is wrong with those people
ATrueHero1987 - 7/6/2012, 9:34 PM
Anyway, I'm finally going to see this later on today in RealD 3D. Can't wait.
BenderDickCumPatch - 7/6/2012, 9:34 PM
People complian about Bing...

I feel sorry for them.
Spidey31 - 7/6/2012, 9:35 PM
Lol so overall Genreal audiences loved it? I guess but this twitter reaction is kinda hard to tell cause a lot of them say it's good but others are just making jokes like " he used bing!" but overall I think it's a pretty solid response. A- CS and 84% on RT I would say its a pretty good movie with the audience sequel will probably be better though.
Tony93 - 7/6/2012, 9:35 PM
I agree^^^ and if Spidey faught him in the streets of New York City and chased him up the building.. but I suppose its due to not enough budget..
Vision91 - 7/6/2012, 9:35 PM
I liked it
GoILL - 7/6/2012, 9:39 PM
@Tony93 I love jeremyjahns reviews.
Jolt17 - 7/6/2012, 9:40 PM
It's sarcasm, people...we need a different font for sarcasm, huh?
BigThor - 7/6/2012, 9:42 PM
The people complainin about "Bing" are the types of people I like to tell "let's see you make a Spider-Man movie" because that's just flat out BITCHING.
WellDrawn - 7/6/2012, 9:42 PM
Why did Oscorp keep liquid Nitrogen on the roof?...

When Captain Stacey came up to the roof at the end, why didn't he bring ANY back up with him?... (don't say they were turned to Lizards, there were clearly other officers around him)

How did Spidey get off the roof at the end, when Lizard had crushed his web shooters?...

When he threw the football, and it bent the goal post in half, why wasn't everyone who saw him like 'WHAT THE F*#$# ?!!!!!"

Why were there so many actual lizards living in New York City?....

How come there was a Crane on EVERY block leading up to Oscorp, and EVERY one of the crane operators was on duty at 9:00 at night, and not fleeing the city like EVERY other person in the area?...

Why did Gwen Stacey ask Peter if he had a suit for dinner, when no one else at the table was wearing a suit?....

Why couldn't we see the Lizard wear his lab coat for at least ONE fight?.....

Why did Gwen Stacey wear a skirt and knee high boots in EVERY scene (including her fathers funeral probably?)

When Spidey rescued the cars on the Bridge, the one cars gas dripped down into the headlights, thus igniting the car, due to the fact that it was hanging - why did Spiderman leave straight away, while know knowing that this was a possibility with the other cars he left hanging?...

What's the point of giving him web cartridges vs organic, if you never show him running out at some point, effecting him mid fight / while swinging ?

Couldn't we have had a plot (Bad guy wants to disperse chemicals/substance into the air, thus negatively changing everyone in the city somehow) been done enough times in Superhero Movies, and better already?...
Tony93 - 7/6/2012, 9:46 PM
@welldrawn

Those are good questions hahah..especially the football post and wishing for the web shooters to run out..

Capt. Stacy could have easily called in for backup with a police helicopter equipped with police officers shooting rapid fire guns.. Lizard woulda been toast for at least enough time to let Spidey switch the serum
GLprime2814 - 7/6/2012, 9:46 PM
They Rly complaining about bing thing? I bet if bing told them I'll pay you a shit tin of cash to just show you using bing they would be singing a different tune.
Spidey31 - 7/6/2012, 9:54 PM
^^agree, it's just sarcastic jokes guys
CPBuff22 - 7/6/2012, 9:54 PM
@WellDrawn

"Why did Oscorp keep liquid Nitrogen on the roof?..."

The basement was full.

"When Captain Stacey came up to the roof at the end, why didn't he bring ANY back up with him?... (don't say they were turned to Lizards, there were clearly other officers around him)"

He didn't want the other officers to get in Spideys way.

"How did Spidey get off the roof at the end, when Lizard had crushed his web shooters?..."

He climbed down the side, or used the elevator.

"When he threw the football, and it bent the goal post in half, why wasn't everyone who saw him like 'WHAT THE F*#$# ?!!!!!"

They were too shocked to speak.

"Why were there so many actual lizards living in New York City?...."

Lots of people flushed their pets down the toilet.

"How come there was a Crane on EVERY block leading up to Oscorp, and EVERY one of the crane operators was on duty at 9:00 at night, and not fleeing the city like EVERY other person in the area?..."

Major renovation. Chicago kinda looks like that right now. Seemed to me they were getting off work but the worker who had his kid saved by Spidey called in favors.

"Why did Gwen Stacey ask Peter if he had a suit for dinner, when no one else at the table was wearing a suit?...."

She wondered why he brought a bag with him. Thought maybe he was going to dress to impress her parents.

"Why couldn't we see the Lizard wear his lab coat for at least ONE fight?....."

Because it kept getting torn off.

"Why did Gwen Stacey wear a skirt and knee high boots in EVERY scene (including her fathers funeral probably?)"

Its fashionable.

"When Spidey rescued the cars on the Bridge, the one cars gas dripped down into the headlights, thus igniting the car, due to the fact that it was hanging - why did Spiderman leave straight away, while know knowing that this was a possibility with the other cars he left hanging?..."

Because the police were after him.

"What's the point of giving him web cartridges vs organic, if you never show him running out at some point, effecting him mid fight / while swinging ?"

You just mentioned Lizard breaking them. WTF?

"Couldn't we have had a plot (Bad guy wants to disperse chemicals/substance into the air, thus negatively changing everyone in the city somehow) been done enough times in Superhero Movies, and better already?..."

Because this plot actually came out of one of the Spider-Man comics. It was also part of one of the cartoon series.
sonofsamadams - 7/6/2012, 9:54 PM
@Welldrawn.

Those are good points!

I noticed a few of those too, like Spidey leaving the other cars hanging without thinking that the same problem might happen with the one where he saved the kid?

While acted beautifully, and great visuals
the movie's plot revolved too much around convenience.

plot convenience =movie suck. Thankfully, it wasn't the case with The Amazing Spider-man. The movie found away to slightly work its way around it.
cyked - 7/6/2012, 9:55 PM
I think he did run out of fluid. Either that, or the water messed up his shooters -- because I think there was a quick flash during the sewer fight scene where he tried to spin but it didn't work.
superotherside - 7/6/2012, 9:59 PM
I think people were trying to be funny about the Bing thing. lol. At any rate I enjoyed the film, and I think most people did, non fans and fans. I still have a few things that I think could have been better, but nothing is perfect. Except the Avengers. Oh just had to say that... :P j/k but even the Avengers wasn't perfect. So I think we need to just enjoy it for what it is. :)
TrueRedBlue - 7/6/2012, 10:13 PM
It was a great movie! And had everything in it to be a total crowd pleaser! :D
MCUFan1 - 7/6/2012, 10:15 PM
To answer welldrawn questions he probably did change his web shooters. The part where he threw the football got edited, the cops where after him thats why stacy didn't call back up and he probably took the stairs
antonio - 7/6/2012, 10:21 PM
Haha Shawn Michaels saw the movie. :)
antonio - 7/6/2012, 10:25 PM
Personally, I thought the movie was great.
Scabsallover - 7/6/2012, 10:32 PM
@BigThor
Don't give anyone any ideas.

Honestly though, there are some people that really known their shit, but don't have avi Arad or these multi-millionaires backing their project, making sure they are on schedule, the costumes are right, all that. There are also better writers than Hollywood has let slip through.

My point is, don't tempt us. The results could be disasterous.
sameoldthing - 7/6/2012, 10:32 PM
Only tweet that should be posted by Rob Liefeld is the one where he promises the world he will not draw or write or have anything to do with comics ever again.

His opinion is like his drawings..pure garbage.

TheAmazingSpiderWill - 7/6/2012, 10:34 PM
I think people should stop comparing the Raimi films to this one. All of the films are Amazing(Pun Intended). They all have their pros and cons. I personally thought Amazing Spider Man was in fact Amazing, I don't understand why so many people hate it.
JustDame - 7/6/2012, 10:41 PM
It was ight.

XxSnakeProxX - 7/6/2012, 10:44 PM
Just saw it for the second time, and enjoyed it even more. It really is a brilliant movie! Only minor issue is some of the editing, and Sonys marketing showing far too much of the film. And yeah, reaction has been overwhelmingly positive from audiences, while critics reactions in general at least acknowledge it as a solid movie. My only issue is that too many of the critics know points off simply because its a reboot, or their gripes with Sony. Thats not to say some didnt raise good points(editing, pacing, story, "untold story")
113 - 7/6/2012, 10:45 PM
It's a very solid film but it's also well short of being great/unforgettable/amazing (pun intended).

MatchesMalone1989 - 7/6/2012, 10:51 PM
Great film loved every fight scene. Especially the one in the sewer. Only bad acting I saw was when Ben died. I didn't feel it from Garfield then. Other than that. Everything was good. Felt more Ultimate Spidey than 616. Which is ok....I guess. Also kinda confused why is Mephisto in the end of the film talking to Conners.
AsianAvenger - 7/6/2012, 10:57 PM
It was good but it has to do a lot more to beat Spider-Man 2
OhGawDuhhh - 7/6/2012, 11:01 PM
I liked the movie, didn't love it. I prefer the Raimi Trilogy. Still wondering where the new trilogy will go.

Also, Peter Parker saying 'Mother hubber' or 'Mother Hubbin' made me LOL every single time.
notmuchtotellreally - 7/6/2012, 11:02 PM
@wellshat your arguments are pretty stupid and nitpicky, I would answer them but I don't have time to waste.... Cuz your mom's waiting
EditNinja - 7/6/2012, 11:35 PM

@CPBuff22

You are the sh*t, sir.

"The basement was full" LMAO
azziz99 - 7/7/2012, 12:23 AM

just saw TASM last night
have to agree with the brother that said TASM had a terrible score...it was really horrible and amatuerish ...so bad that it was really distracting to watching the story ..I'would not use the same composer in the future
the first half'of the film was well written and interesting. The second half was terrible an I mean terrible. The dialogue was horrible, poor writing and you could see the the actors were STRUGGLING to breathe life into some really bad sparse dialogue. The acting was very good but the material was bad
on a positive side the special effects were really great and the subway fighting scene was probably the best part of the the film ~very imaginative and cool. Very realistic looking
but that went downhill with the second second half.
SORRY but have to give TASM overall a fail. It was executed and managed cohesively , even though it had a cast of really good actors
Garfield gave a good performance as did emma stone, martin sheen, and dennis leary
its strong points don't outweigh its negatives which are far too many. But that's the fault of the screenwriters and the director. The choreography was stellar as was the webswing
there wasn't sufficient character development to create an empathy fir Peter Parker. There wasn't enough building of the intellectaul nerd aspect of PP before his powers to help audience feel the character.
SORRY but even though I'm not a Raimi fan, I have to be honest His origin story was far superior and his coordination of the story, the memorable music score, and building transitions with the characters was superior.
TASM is does not in quality parrallel Xmen first class, the Hulk [edward norton interpretation] or the Bryan Singer Xmen and its sequel.
