Charlie Sheen Once Tried To Play SPIDER-MAN

Martin Sheen played 'Uncle Ben' in this summer's The Amazing Spider-Man, but his real-life son Charlie Sheen (Anger Management) seemingly came very close to playing the wall crawler a few years ago. Thankfully, it didn't happen. Read on for details!

Charlie Sheen has delivered some impressive enough performances over the years, but the thought of him playing Spider-Man (even when he was considerably younger) isn't a particularly good one for fans. On Jay Mohr's podcast, "Mohr Stories", the former Two And A Half Men star revealed that he had the idea to bring the iconic Marvel character to the big screen but was shot down by the now bankrupt production company Orion. He certainly had the right idea, although whether he would have been the right man to bring Peter Parker to life is another thing altogether. Check out his comments below, and be sure to sound off with your thoughts on both this and whether or not there are any other comic book characters you think he should play in the usual place!

"I had an office at Orion at the time, and I brought them Spider-Man. I said, 'Look, in a couple of years, I'll be too old to play Peter Parker.' And they said, 'Yeah, we're just thinking that cartoons are not the future, comic books are not the future.' And I said, 'But it's Spider-Man, I'm perfect.' And they were like, 'Nah, we're gonna wait.' I had a guy in my pocket who was going to get them for me. They didn't know shit."

His voice and jokes in that mask would make for a fun Spider–Man/Grand Theft Auto game.
GoILL - 8/30/2012, 3:54 PM
Great thing this didn't happen.

I stop reading at a few years ago... I mean honestly Charlie... Like really... I mean yes your whole attitude about life intrigued people enough to coin the phrase "Winning Like Charlie Sheen" but I think playing Spider-Man would've made people be like, "you guys remember when Charlie played Spiderman, Haha yeah that was funny".... Charlie is my dude, but I couldn't ever see him playing Spiderman...

said by a Charlie Sheen & Spiderman fan...
sKeemAn - 8/30/2012, 4:33 PM
Can u say "Spider Nipples" lol. This is a joke
Fogs - 8/30/2012, 4:38 PM
I wouldn't have problems with it actually. When he was young he was both funny and tough. Go watch Platoon.
SHO1138 - 8/30/2012, 4:39 PM
A little more than a few years ago seeing as how Orion has been gone since 1998.
BattlinMurdock - 8/30/2012, 4:41 PM
No, because then we'd get an Ashton Kutcher Spidey.
jimpinto24 - 8/30/2012, 4:43 PM
I'm a Charlie Sheen fan, but he would have made a terrible Spider-Man! That would have just killed the Spider-Man movie! (IMO)
SageMode - 8/30/2012, 4:46 PM
Another Nicolas Cage/Superman story.
JULEZ13 - 8/30/2012, 4:46 PM
Wow. Nice to know he's a huge fan but him as Spidey? Hell no. He just doesn't look the part and he was already too old!

Now if he wanted to play an older character or a villain... then MAYBE! BIG MAYBE!
PeterDarker - 8/30/2012, 4:52 PM
Young Charlie as Spidey? No. Young Charlie as Deadpool...
Ha1frican - 8/30/2012, 4:56 PM
There arent words.
poop23 - 8/30/2012, 5:02 PM
Would it make sense, no.. But it would definitely be something entertaining.

And yeah, go ahead and throw around your "fail" memes about him, but at least when he was the perfect target for the media to bash, he somehow didn't let that stop him. So when all is said and done, he actually did win,.. Aside from his new tv show which isn't really too much of a success
SymbioteSpidey1 - 8/30/2012, 5:02 PM
....WHAT?!
TayDee - 8/30/2012, 5:10 PM
Spiderman on coke? That would've been hysterically classic!
hope420 - 8/30/2012, 5:12 PM
This news is so so so old! I remember reading about it in Wizard magazine in the 90's. I miss that mag.:(
Tymminator - 8/30/2012, 5:13 PM
Before his life went into crazyville, he actually was a damn good actor and in the 80's I think he would have done a good job.
mgeoff88 - 8/30/2012, 5:14 PM
Lol! I'm not sure what to say to that. Even thinking back to his younger days, I just don't see it.
INFO - 8/30/2012, 5:14 PM
for some reason he has that jaw of spiderman back in the comics in the 60's
CptHero - 8/30/2012, 5:19 PM

MisterMagurlypse - 8/30/2012, 5:32 PM
GTFO, is today April 1st?
darkmetal - 8/30/2012, 5:44 PM
@TheAmazingSpidey63 Do you have any idea how badly injured the people were in the 2 clips?
I'd say the dude messed up his back pretty bad.
Keldor - 8/30/2012, 5:49 PM
Its true. I remember I read in 1991 or so, in Wizard issue 8 I believe (The one with Bishop on the cover) it had an interview or article where it was talking abotu a potential SpiderMan movie starring Charlie Sheen and mechanical Venom.
mgeoff88 - 8/30/2012, 5:49 PM
Wait! What about his brother, Emilio Estevez? Funny enough, during The Breakfast Club days, he would've been good in the role IMHO.

Peter and MJ. :P Molly Ringwald wouldn't actually be my choice for Mary Jane.
Keldor - 8/30/2012, 5:53 PM
If I am not mistaken the name of the director might have been James Cameron.
Boogie138 - 8/30/2012, 6:13 PM
people are saying no cuz they are young and know only the old crazy coked out sheen.

i think about platoon, and that charlie could do it. he could do it pretty good. zap forward a few years and no i don't think he be a good fit.

i remember people freaking when toby was cast back in the day and i could not convince anyone that a general audience would buy toby in the role. i was flammed as moron. spiderman came out people loved it. i was happy with what toby did but underwhemled by some creative choices. funny how things turn out. sheen out but (platoon costar) dafoe was in.
Bodwulf - 8/30/2012, 6:23 PM
He may have been on drugs but at least he could deliver a complete sentence.
My take on this
Spidey31 - 8/30/2012, 6:42 PM
@battleinmurdock lol!!!!
Darkhaven - 8/30/2012, 6:43 PM
@PeterDarker - 8/30/2012, 4:52 PM

"Young Charlie as Spidey? No. Young Charlie as Deadpool..."

Good lord, that would have been [frick]ing AMAZING.
Spidey31 - 8/30/2012, 6:44 PM
Holy shit sheen would make an amazing dead pool
Enterlion - 8/30/2012, 6:53 PM
@amazingspidey63

The guy you have in your gif image with the stair fail is my good buddy. Zac "The Horse". He was actually a contestant on America's Got Talent just recently. That's from way back in the day. I design his artwork and logo stuff.

Awesome seeing his stuff floating around! That's all haha
BmanHall - 8/30/2012, 7:23 PM
Maybe young Charlie Sheen... and I'm talking Major League young... and that's still a stretched maybe.
Superheromovies2000 - 8/30/2012, 8:50 PM
Wait he was the same age back in Major League when Tobey played Spidey in 2000!! So what's the difference..
Jer3miah - 8/30/2012, 9:31 PM
Heh, you people make no sense who bash Sheen. Why does so many people hate him? Because he parties too much, talks shit and does drugs? And how many of you do the same? Well, for the non-looking nerds in here? Hypocrites. O_o
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 8/30/2012, 10:54 PM
@Enterlion - LoL, really? Cool, dude. D@mn, that injury to the back must've hurt. Glad to hear that he's up and about. :)

@D117 - Lmao, I know. :P

@darkmetal - Yeah, that must've hurt (especially the last one). But I just can't help but chuckle or laugh a little at those GIFs.

TonyPaintball - 8/30/2012, 11:40 PM
DUH! WEBBING!
inky - 8/31/2012, 12:19 AM
in his day he was not that bad an actor and could have done a good job of spiderman thinking to the old live action stuff and the actor who played spiderman then, but sheen does tend to suffer the son of a more famous father problem he like micheal duglas will always be second generation and rate talent.
but thankfully we will never know if it would have worked
ZombieOverEasy - 8/31/2012, 3:55 AM
When Peter Parker gets infected with Tiger Blood...yea this already isn't working.

Charlie Sheen should play Dr. Strange, he's already a Wizard.
TH3TRUTH007 - 8/31/2012, 7:26 AM
he was going to have to face his worse villian yet.........SOBRIETY
lokibane2012 - 8/31/2012, 8:58 AM
He actually wasn't all that bad when he was young.
FOOM - 8/31/2012, 12:36 PM
Forget Spider Man. Charlie Sheen is poised to play a dark Tony Stark when Robert Downey Jr jacks it in.
notmuchtotellreally - 8/31/2012, 5:26 PM
Charlie sheen's a Webhead fan? I LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
UrbanKnight - 8/31/2012, 10:18 PM
Iron Man woulda been a perfect fit minus the cocain..
