Venom Costume Test For Sam Raimi's SPIDER-MAN 3

Venom Costume Test For Sam Raimi's SPIDER-MAN 3

Hollywood costume and FX company, Frontline Design Inc., recently had the pleasure of designing Superman's suit for Man of Steel, but they also are known for their work on Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3. Come see an unused design for Topher Grace's Venom.

Thanks to Marvel_Spider for coming across this cool image of an unused Venom costume, designed by the talented crew at Frontline Design. In 2004, Frontline Design collaborated with three-time Academy Award winning Costume Designer, James Acheson, on Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3. They created Spider-Man's suit, prosthetics for Sandman and even a fully functional Venom animatronic puppet.
Thanks to the heads up from Marvel_Spider.
SPIDER-MAN 3 - Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) finally has the girl of his dreams, Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst), and New York City is in the throes of Spider-mania! But when a strange alien symbiote turns Spider-Man's suit black, his darkest demons come to light changing Spider-Man inside as well as out. Spider-Man is in for the fight of his life against a lethal mix of villains - the deadly Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), Venom (Topher Grace), and the New Goblin (James Franco) - as well as the enemy within himself.

Cast: Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Topher Grace, Thomas Haden Church, James Franco

Damn, VENOM could have been awesome in Spider-Man 3, the actor they picked too sucked.

Glad we getting a spin off still, even if its gonna be Webb (Ultimate) like.

JordanKing - 4/13/2014, 12:40 PM
That monstrosity is not Venom.
MercwithMouth - 4/13/2014, 12:41 PM
Wow, that's terrible... I will say, the Venom visuals in SM3 were incredible. Easily the best part of the movie.
batz11 - 4/13/2014, 12:42 PM
Interesting...but stupid...
MrCBM56 - 4/13/2014, 12:42 PM
Venom in SP3 looked like a black Spiderman. He needed to be bulkier, taller, a lot more "sharp", and so on.
MrCBM56 - 4/13/2014, 12:43 PM
The first hour of SP3 is great, but it just went downhill from there.
Nick56 - 4/13/2014, 12:44 PM
@MrCBM56 Exactly. Apart from a few moments, Venom just looked like the black spider-man. He really needed to be bulkier.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 4/13/2014, 12:45 PM
That's creepy.
Comedian03 - 4/13/2014, 12:47 PM
That would actually looks good without all the extra webbing.

I think it looks cool anyway, just not as Venom.
ALegendaryPanda - 4/13/2014, 12:50 PM
Venom should've been the main antagonist in SM3 with a completely different actor. Either that or they should've just left him out completely, but no, we got this:

charlie2094 - 4/13/2014, 12:51 PM
Doesn't look too bad, didn't actually mind how he looked in SM3...just needed to be a bit bigger and creepier, instead of just a black suited Spider-Man
ImTheDoctor - 4/13/2014, 12:52 PM
Topher Grace didn't necessarily suck. I blame the writing and direction. He played it the way they told him to. His whole "Dear God, please kill Peter Parker" and jealousy over Gwen was part of screenplay (which we can blame the Raimi's and Alvin Sargent for).
Doopie - 4/13/2014, 12:56 PM
i had such high hopes for Venom in Spidey 3. ok well.
knocturnal - 4/13/2014, 12:59 PM
The music for the villians was horrible, emo peter and teenage venom killed it for me
Mrcool210 - 4/13/2014, 1:00 PM
i always wondered how does the spider change on venom? like the spider on venom is different then peters was when he wore the black suit, theres no explination as to why. besides, venom was just black carnage in that movie, he wasn't right at all
DaVinci31 - 4/13/2014, 1:03 PM

Jeepers Creepers lookin' ass n*gga
MrCBM56 - 4/13/2014, 1:05 PM

Uh, no. He was nothing like Carnage...
TheGreenBastard - 4/13/2014, 1:06 PM
Crap, like the movies.
BobGarlen - 4/13/2014, 1:07 PM
Face looks like the original Todd MacFarlane Venom
Highflyer - 4/13/2014, 1:12 PM
My life felt a little less special when this movie came out.
TheRationalNerd - 4/13/2014, 1:12 PM
Spider-Man 3 was originally meant to be for Sandman as I've heard. Whatever was going to happen with Harry's Goblin would've been different for sure. I would've preferred seeing the Lizard and Sandman with a tease of Harry becoming the Hobgoblin near the end.
Doopie - 4/13/2014, 1:12 PM
i just watched the clip. haven't seen the movie in a while but god what a shit-fest
TheRationalNerd - 4/13/2014, 1:13 PM
It was pretty sad seeing Harry die though...
Battabing - 4/13/2014, 1:13 PM
I still like Tobey Maguire's Spider-man more than the new kid on the block, Andrew Garfield.
marvel72 - 4/13/2014, 1:14 PM
i thought both of the looks they showed were better than the ones they went with.
MercwithMouth - 4/13/2014, 1:15 PM
I actually like Topher in the role. If he could've bulked up it would've been immensely better, but he did a decent job. He pulled off the crazy quite well in the final fight.
Doopie - 4/13/2014, 1:16 PM
if you look at the movies from harry's perspective, they're really [frick]ing sad. i'm on the fence about maguire. he sucked in this one but was good in the others. have to wait for ASM2 to decide i guess
Indy - 4/13/2014, 1:19 PM
Topher Grace I thought did good job in role even though he was little miscast my only problem was they killed him off. Topher Grace would made better spider-man I would have rather see him as spider-man than I do Andrew Garfield. I miss Tobey.
Scarilian - 4/13/2014, 1:19 PM
If they'd given him more muscles and beefed him up so he looked more monstrous I'd have been a lot more acceptant of their version of Venom. Sadly he needed more screen time and focus - and removing the mask so much brought the character down for me... oh well.. hopefully the new iteration of Venom will be an improvement.
TheRationalNerd - 4/13/2014, 1:19 PM
Remember when everyone wanted the 4th film to be a Kraven's last Hunt based story. It was starting to look very promising until they decided to go the entire "Vulture and Vultress" route. I think Anne Hathaway was going to be Black Cat too.

"Malkovich would play The Vulture, an old man in a bird suit, and Hathaway would be Felicia Hardy, who is Black Cat in the comics, but changed to The Vultress in the movie."

Man, I'm glad they pushed for the reboot. However I'm all up for seeing Tobey's Spider-Man appearing in the Amazing Spider-Man franchise. It would be cool to see a different dimension based film.
sjoerdo0 - 4/13/2014, 1:20 PM
ye he was like carnage not muscled but thin.
Doopie - 4/13/2014, 1:22 PM
they got venom and eddie brock totally wrong in this film. topher was horribly miscast for a badly written role. i really hope the Venom of the new films is as good as it can be.
TheRationalNerd - 4/13/2014, 1:23 PM
MrCBM56 - 4/13/2014, 1:32 PM
LMAO!! The Venom in SP3 was NOTHING like Carnage.
Ramiel - 4/13/2014, 1:32 PM
Venom and his costume sucked in SM3.
Drewbee87 - 4/13/2014, 1:40 PM
So glad they ended up doing what they did, the one from the tests looks horrible!
sameoldthing - 4/13/2014, 1:42 PM
Venom wasn't that bad in Spidey was tolerable.
The main mess was Emo-Peter & his ingnorant dance scene.

Also,Sandman looked great but having him responsible for Uncle Bens death was a bad move too.
Those are the main problems, not Venom. Hope we get a great Venom in solo film.
RockHard - 4/13/2014, 1:42 PM
I Can't Believe People Are Saying That Venom Looked Liked Carnage Haha. When Was The Last Time You Guys Saw Carnage, Just Because He Was A Skinny Symbiote Doesn't Mean He Looks Like Him. Venom Is Crazy, But Carnage Takes It To Another Level.
Mrcool210 - 4/13/2014, 1:50 PM
@MrCBM yeah he was, skinny like carnage, venom in comics believed in protecting the innocent, this venom just wanted to kill anyone in his way, just like carnage, he used the symbiote more then venom would, more similar to carnage, and like carnage he enjoyed the symbiote where eddie brock saw it as an addiction
