Shocker Escapes Ryker's In Latest Daily Bugle Viral From THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

The Amazing Spider-Man 2's promotional campaign has released another Daily Bugle viral article, this time featuring Herman Schultz's "shocking" escape from Ryker's Island. Come check it out!

March 14, 2014

By Ned Leeds, City Bureau

Incarcerated bank robber Herman Schultz has escaped from Ryker’s Island days before the scheduled start of his trial on multiple counts of armed robbery, assault, and fleeing the scene of a crime. Schultz gained notoriety by committing his alleged crimes with the use of a homemade vibratory device that was capable of shaking a steel vault door off its anchor hinges.

A Ryker’s Island Corrections Department spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Schultz escaped by creating a hole through the three-foot thick concrete wall of his prison cell.

The source said officials believe Schultz crafted vibratory gauntlets using materials he had cobbled together in the prison’s workshop over the eight-week period he’d spent in the penitentiary. Questions remain regarding how Schultz managed to leave the island and navigate the notoriously difficult currents. The Corrections Department source speculated that Schultz had outside help, saying, “He couldn’t have just pointed his wrist-things at the water and vibrated his way over the East River, could he?”

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 features:
Director: Marc Webb
Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon/Electro
Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn
Sally Field as May Parker
Campbell Scott as Richard Parker
Embeth Davidtz as Mary Parker
Colm Feore as Donald Menken
Paul Giamatti as Aleksei Sytsevich/The Rhino
Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn
Marton Csokas as Dr.Kafka
B.J. Novak as Alistair Smythe
Martin Sheen as Ben Parker
Chris Zylka as Flash Thompson
Denis Leary as Captain George Stacy
Felicity Jones in an unspecified role

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters on May 2, 2014.

Besides Batman, Spidey is the only one capable of having his own shared universe. Loving the direction Sony is taking the franchise.
ALegendaryPanda - 3/14/2014, 3:07 PM
I guarantee we see him at least ONCE in TASM 3 or one of the spin-offs!
MercwithMouth - 3/14/2014, 3:08 PM
I absolutely love these viral campaigns. And I would love to see Shocker on screen.

Am I the only one who thinks that the Amazing Spiderman 2 game will relate to the Daily Bugle articles?
Indy - 3/14/2014, 3:16 PM
If there going do shocker do 616 or forget it.
djv1985 - 3/14/2014, 3:18 PM

I've been saying it from the get go, I said that they would introduce villains using the 'Virals' that they keep going on about. And I'm sorry but its not working for me. I wanna see the villain, I wanna see how he became the bad guy. I get that we dont need to see the origins for say Goblin, Venom, Lizard now that we've had them and other characters from the original three films but doing it just on the net isn't good as not many people will enjoy waiting for the next so called article.
DrDoom - 3/14/2014, 3:20 PM
What are the point of these virals?

None of them are going to affect the [frick]ing movie
SpideyQuad - 3/14/2014, 3:29 PM
I officially agree with Indy, Shocker 616 or nothing!
VISIONaryNPa - 3/14/2014, 3:42 PM
yeah the Shocker 616 is bad-ass. I don't understand why they do these stupid daily bugle market skims, it's not like average movie goers are going to be looking this shit up.
marvel72 - 3/14/2014, 3:43 PM
with all these trailers, virals, clips, photos & posters,i think everyone knows there is another spider-man movie coming by now.
Scarilian - 3/14/2014, 4:03 PM
616 Shocker - or noting. As for if he'll appear in anything - Sinister Six or minor character is the best we can hope for.
KnuckleBomb - 3/14/2014, 4:38 PM
Yes 616 costume period
Mike89 - 3/14/2014, 4:41 PM
Hope they bring in Shoker in this franchise. Never cared for electro or rhino anyways.
CorporalHicks - 3/14/2014, 4:42 PM
what about Jason statham for shocker? I think he would be a cool choice
JJJameson - 3/14/2014, 4:58 PM
That's just AWESOME, I hope we get to see Spider-Man against the Shocker eventually, that could be comedy relief gold waiting to happen.

Can't [frick]ing wait for The Amazing Spider-Man 2!!

TheRationalNerd - 3/14/2014, 5:03 PM
All I know is...

Whoever they cast as Shocker better have "the voice".

RetroFit - 3/14/2014, 5:04 PM
Oh who cares. They'll never show any of this in the movie. It's all an attempt to make these movies more than they are. False context.
SuperHamm - 3/14/2014, 5:08 PM
Always wanted to see Shocker in these Spidey movies, even like an opening scene where Spidey stops him from robbing a jewelry store or bank. Shocker and Scorpion are the 2 i think would be awesome to see.
xinstituto - 3/14/2014, 6:24 PM
As more i see News about this movie, i hate it more and more.. Sony is messing w/ one of the best character i love.. I want it back at Marvel Studios as soon as possible

hbk82287 - 3/14/2014, 8:49 PM

Optimus83 - 3/14/2014, 9:21 PM
Cool. ...Shocker
JediPhilosopher - 3/14/2014, 9:54 PM
One of the few Spidey comic books I ever read was the Shocker in the mid-80s. All I remember was I was somewhat unimpressed. I've always been more interested in the DC superheroes.
urnotaslave23 - 3/15/2014, 12:52 AM
I don't understand why so many of you are hating on the "virals" for this movie? They're going out of their way to give us fans something extra. And they're also making room for cameos. Even if it's a throw-away line that only real Spidey fans would catch.

For instance, we get a scene at the beginning of ASM-2 where Gwen asks Peter how his day went and he responds with "Did you read in the paper about that guy who broke out of prison with homemade earthquake gauntlets? Well he's back in prison and I have a killer migraine".

You can't tell me you wouldn't love something like that? Personally I've always really liked Shockers suit in the comics and I think he would be a fun character on screen but I wouldn't expect any studio to spend enough money to make him a main villain so I'm more than cool with just a reference. Even if it ends with this Bugle run. That alone tells me they care enough about us as fans to at least give a cool little shout out.

Unlike Josh Trank, who seemingly couldn't give less of a shit about the source material if he tried.... that's not related to this article so I'll stop, post is long enough anyway lol.

That gif looks like the ending of Pink Floyd's The Wall.
darkshot - 3/15/2014, 4:28 PM
i got nothing! its going to be sick!
wbrowning79 - 3/15/2014, 9:57 PM
Gif? Why gif on the paper? It's nitpicking yeah but I'm just asking. What's the point? I'd rather see a grained image of shocker breaking out, not a gif you would find on photobucket. I mean if it's grainier then you don't haft to reveal him at all. Hell you don't haft to have his shockers he could just be in a jumpsuit with an explosion behind him. This is an ingenious way to clarify that these characters live in this world but can't I just have a little more please? I mean come on you can't tell me that every news coverage doesn't have at one picture showin the event.
