SPIDER-MAN Named First Superhero Ambassador for EARTH HOUR

The cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 have joined forces with Earth Hour and pledged to become "Superheroes for the Planet." Come see what stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, & Marc Webb have to say about the cause. Also catch brief glimpses of new footage from the film!

Spider-Man will be the first superhero ambassador for Earth Hour, the global movement organised by WWF. This year Earth Hour launches Earth Hour Blue, a digital crowdfunding and crowdsourcing platform for the planet. The cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, and director Marc Webb, want you to be a superhero for the planet.

Earth Hour is a global movement of the World Wildlife Fund. They are one of the world's first open-sourced environmental campaigns and have grown tremendously in recent years due to a variety of crowdsourcing activities. Today, the CEO and Co-Founder of Earth Hour, Andy Ridley and the Chairman of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution at Sony Pictures Entertainment, Jeff Blake announced a first of its kind partnership as our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man was introduced as the first Super Hero ambassador for Earth Hour. They announced the news in addition to the launch of Earth Hour Blue, a new digital crowd-funding and crowd-sourcing platform for the planet.

Andy Ridley made this statement about Earth Hour's new partnership with Spider-Man: “The idea of Earth Hour has grown beyond anything we could have dreamed. This year with the help of Spider-Man by our side, we are taking the movement to the next stage. We hope that Spider-Man will empower individuals to be Super Heroes for the planet, and use their voice or their dollar to support projects or campaigns around the world. It’s about harnessing the power of the crowd. That’s what Earth Hour Blue is all about,".

Sony's Jeff Blake had this to add: “Spider-Man’s always been a very relatable Super Hero. Peter Parker is a hero to all people, and an inspiration, so it seems very fitting that he should join forces with Earth Hour to empower every single individual to help save the planet, I’m also very proud of the fact that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is entirely carbon-neutral. We made a commitment to be as eco-conscious as possible during production itself, when we took a special effort to think green and avoid waste; now, completing that process with Earth Hour Blue is a wonderful testament to what we can achieve when we all work together."

The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx and director March Webb have pledged their full support to Earth Hour Blue. Garfield had this to say about the news: “I’m proud Spider-Man is the first Super Hero ambassador for Earth Hour because he shows we can all be Super Heroes when we realize the power we all have” Emma Stone added “Earth Hour gives you the power to inspire anyone, even if you’re just one person, and Earth Hour is much more than an hour. There are great projects from the crowd, for the planet, happening all over the world,”

Earth Hour Blue's new crowdfunding section will allow participants to help deliver energy efficient stoves to families in Madagascar, help communities in the Philippines build fiberglass boats to withstand climate impacts like Typhoon Haiyan and raise funds to expand and conserve the iconic Table Mountain National Park in South Africa, just to name a few. Additional projects are expected to be announced in the future.

Earth Hour has already expanded to approximately 154 countries and territories and over 7000 cities. They have hundreds of millions of supporters for their cause. Jamie Foxx said this about the cause: “Earth Hour isn’t just about lights off; it’s about people across the world coming together throughout the year to join forces to improve the planet. Never underestimate your power, never underestimate what you can do.”

Director Marc Webb is the only one of the four that has already announced the Earth Hour Blue project he is backing, which is a project that aims to provide better equipment for WWF Rangers that are protecting Indonesia's endangered wildlife such as the Sumatran Tiger, Elephant, Rhino and Orangutan and their forest habitat. Webb said this about his decision: “Earth Hour is a movement full of Super Heroes – people harnessing the power of the crowd to inspire change for the good of the planet, imagine the possibilities when we come together and do more.”

Earth Hour 2014 will be held Saturday March 29, at 8:30 PM.

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 features:
Director: Marc Webb
Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon/Electro
Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn
Sally Field as May Parker
Campbell Scott as Richard Parker
Embeth Davidtz as Mary Parker
Colm Feore as Donald Menken
Paul Giamatti as Aleksei Sytsevich/The Rhino
Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn
Marton Csokas as Dr.Kafka
B.J. Novak as Alistair Smythe
Martin Sheen as Ben Parker
Chris Zylka as Flash Thompson
Denis Leary as Captain George Stacy
Felicity Jones in an unspecified role

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters on May 2, 2014.

This may sound odd, but... having Spiderman telling me to do this kinda makes me want to do it. ... I know I'm being manipulated, but I'm willing to let it happen.

I guess this is cool. I mean if it's for a good cause and if it'll inspire people to do the right thing then i'm okay with it.

@B166er, Not just water but wars will be fought over "oil" like in Mad Max.
JustThwipIt - 2/13/2014, 5:12 AM
You gotta love the WebHead, he has a knack for getting into peoples heart. Although this is just a campaign, they couldn't have gone with another SuperHero and pull this off the same way with Spidey. I can see myself contributing to the cause, besides its moral enough.
Can't wait for the movie!

I invite you all to come by my TASM 2 related article if you wish to. Thanks in advance.

Earth hour? LOL, I remember when it use to be Earth Day. Like 10 years ago in school we would plant trees and celebrate, now we just celebrate it all in one hour, lol.

@Libertarian- What they're doing with this is no more brainwashing than the horrible your together rant you just posted. Take the foil of your head and try to be upset about something that actually harms.

Do you even know what Libertarians believe in?
